Marvel Rivals’ first big post-launch event, the holiday-themed Winter Celebration event, has just been announced across social media. The event begins on December 20st and will bring a fun limited-time game mode, special holiday-themed outfits (including a free costume for Jeff), and more surprises to the game. The announcement comes alongside a cosy new trailer which shows off the new modes and skins coming with the event.
First and foremost, the main star of the first Winter Celebration in Marvel Rivals is none other than everyone’s favourite Landshark, Jeff. In a new limited-time mode, Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, players will group up into teams of four to capture the most territory across winter-themed Asgard maps. Every player will be playing as Jeff – who will be bundled up in his new Winter Skin – and your main goal is to use your healing spray to cover the ground in either blue or pink ice: whichever team has the most area covered at the end of the round wins. Essentially, this is the Marvel Rivals version of Splatoon, only with a cute legion of Landsharks instead of Inklings or Octolings.
In addition to the Splash Festival LTM, there will also be additional challenges to complete in the form of Jeff’s Winter Greeting Card. According to the trailer, as well as the announcement on Discord and Twitter (now X), there will be “special gifts” tied to completing the Winter Greeting Card. We saw a new Snow-Shark MVP animation for Jeff in the trailer, as well as a cute emote where he eats a snowflake, so either of those could be a good bet for what we’ll get from the Greeting Card.

Of course, a new event also means a new batch of cosmetics to unlock and Marvel Rivals isn’t holding out on its first post-launch venture. Firstly, and most importantly to most players, the Winter Jeff Skin will be completely free to earn, likely by participating in event activities and completing Jeff’s Winter Greeting Card.
As for what’s coming to the shop, Winter Celebration is bringing four holiday-themed skins to the store, including a new Legendary Skin for Venom which will give a distinctly frosty look to his animations. Venom’s new icy costume is complete with layers of sharp frost and an everpresent aura of snowflakes. Meanwhile, Groot is dressing up as a cross between a classic Christmas tree and Santa Claus himself, while Rocket and Magik don their best snowboarding gear to accompany Jeff on his wintery adventures.
