Following on from the Lapras ex Drop Event a few weeks ago, Pokemon TCG Pocket is holding another Drop Event for players with a set of new Series-A promo cards to collect. This time, the event is focused primarily on Venusaur, the Grass-type starter from Kanto and a fan favourite the world over. Drop Events are Solo Battle Events in PTCGP where players compete in various event stages against themed decks to earn Pack Hourglasses, Wonder Hourglasses, Shop Tickets, and, most importantly, a set of exclusive new promo cards.
The Venusaur Drop Event is split into four separate Solo Battle stages, each of which is armed with a Venusaur-themed deck of varying complexity and difficulty. Almost every card in these event stages is weak to Fire – which is why last week’s Fire Pokemon Mass Outbreak event was so useful – so be sure to make a reasonable deck before attempting. Clearing each stage for the first time will net you Player EXP, Pack Hourglasses, and Shop Tickets, and there are also Battle Tasks and challenges tied to each stage for extra rewards.
To start a Drop Event battle, players will need to spend one Event Stamina. You can hold up to five Event Stamina at any one time, with three Stamina in reserves, which regenerates at a rate of one stamina per 12 hours. As a reward for clearing Battle Tasks in the Beginner and Intermediate stages, you will earn Event Hourglasses which will immediately refill your Event Stamina. You can obtain a total of 15 Event Hourglasses during the event, equating to 15 free battles.
Similar to the Lapras ex Drop Event, each time you successfully clear one of the Venusaur Drop Event stages, there is a chance that you will obtain a one-card A-Series Volume 2 Promo Pack containing one of the five event promos. The chance of getting a pack increases with the difficulty of the stage, with the Expert stage guaranteeing a pack if you can beat it.
This Venusaur promo card is a reprint of the Genetic Apex Venusaur but isn’t to be confused with the Venusaur ex from the same set: instead, this Venusaur has 160 HP as well as access to Mega Drain, a four Energy attack which deals 80 damage and heals 30 from Venusaur. While undeniably weaker than its ex-counterpart, this card does allow you to employ the same stall strategy as Venusaur ex without the risk of running a two-pointer in your deck.
Just like in the Lapras ex Drop Event, the Venusaur Promo is joined by four other new promo cards – Greninja, Haunter, Onix, and Jigglypuff – all of which have new artwork as well as the TCG Pocket Promo Stamp. Of the regular promos, the Greninja and Onix are the same cards as seen in Genetic Apex with new art, whereas the Haunter and Jigglypuff are brand new cards: the Jigglypuff, in particular, has a lot of potential in Status Effect and Sleep decks thanks to its Sing attack.
The Venusaur Drop Event begins today on the 29th of November 2024 and will run for two weeks until the 12th of December 2024. You have from now until then to complete all of the Solo Battle Tasks and earn as many promo packs as possible, so be sure to use your Event Stamina wisely.
