Ryan Gosling is set to embark on a new adventure in Star Wars: Starfighter. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni announced the film at the annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo. This new installment takes place five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The production will start in fall, as Disney wants to release the film on 28th May 2027. It’s not just Ryan Gosling who has been announced with Star Wars: Starfighter, but a director has been named as well. Shawn Levy will be the director this time around.
According to Variety, Jonathan Tropper is the one who wrote the screenplay for the film. This isn’t the first time Tropper collaborates Levy. They previously worked together on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project. Fans got a look at Ryan Gosling and Levy during the announcement of Star Wars: Starfighter. Gosling also had a few words to say.
“Being here and seeing all of you [makes it] more inspiring to do it. There’s so much creativity and imagination in this room and there’s so much love. It’s such a great reminder of how much movies can mean to us, specifically how much these movies mean to us. The force is a mysterious thing, but, as I’m here, the force is the fans. All we can hope for is, ‘May the fans be with us.’”

More details have been revealed about Star Wars: Starfighter starring Ryan Gosling. The film is a standalone and will be focusing on new characters in the Star Wars universe. It will be released just over one year after the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film which is set to release on 22nd May 2026.
This new adventure for Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter is different from his usual roles. Fans might find a hard time trying to erase Gosling’s character in Barbie. Levy will also have a lot of pressure on top of him to direct a successful film once again. His latest film, Deadpool & Wolverine, brought in $1.3 billion at the global box office. Right now, it is the highest-grossing R-rated feature of all-time. The news of the new film comes at a time when other Star Wars projects have been announced. A new game titled Star Wars: Zero Company has also been announced. Fortnite will even have a Star Wars-themed season.
