Pokemon TCG Pocket has just revealed the new Mythical Island Themed Booster Set, the next expansion for the digital Pokemon Trading Card Game. The news comes alongside a new trailer for the expansion which showcases several of the headlining cards, including new ex Pokemon, Illustration Rare cards, and Supporters.
Mythical Island is the first Themed Booster Set in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Compared to a traditional set – such as Genetic Apex – a themed booster set will have fewer cards to collect and launch between the major expansion releases. Mythical Island will have over 80 cards to collect (without counting Star Rares or Crown Rares), making it significantly smaller than the 228 cards on offer from Genetic Apex. It will introduce 5 new ex Pokemon, 5 new Trainer cards, and several new Immersive Cards.
Mew ex
As the name suggests, Mythical Island will introduce several prominent Mythical Pokemon to TCG Pocket, with the leading star being Mew ex. Although it is possible to get a Mew from Genetic Apex by collecting all 151 Pokemon from Generation 1, Mythical Island’s Mew ex will be available from Booster Packs and it is an interesting upgrade to Ditto. Mythical Island will also feature Celebi ex, Johto’s most popular Mythical Pokemon.
Aside from Mew ex, some of the other standout cards revealed in the trailer include Illustration Rare variants of Vaporeon, Dedenne, Marshadow, and new Supporter cards for Blue and Leaf. Interestingly, the new Vaporeon card also has new abilities and attacks compared to the one released in Genetic Apex, so expect some new prints of already existing cards.

Similar to Genetic Apex, Mythical Island appears to focus primarily on Kanto Pokemon, with a sprinkling of other later generations as a supplement. Magmar and Tauros are both getting new reprints while Generation 5 Pokemon like Snivy and Generation 8 Pokemon like Morelull will be joining the Pokemon TCG Pocket roster for the first time. Other Pokemon who appear in the background include Volcarona, Liepard, Gyarados, and more.
The Mythical Island Booster Set will launch in Pokemon TCG Pocket on December 17th 2024.
