With only a week left before the global launch, Marvel Rivals has released its launch trailer, revealing several new Heroes in the process who will all be available to play when the game launches on December 6th. The cinematic trailer was posted to YouTube and social media and, while it doesn’t include any gameplay, it does accurately show off the playstyle and abilities of a large portion of the roster.
As revealed by the trailer, the final five Heroes who will be available to play when Marvel Rivals launches are Wolverine, Black Widow, Squirrel Girl, Iron Fist, and Cloak and Dagger. Wolverine was easily the most popular and anticipated of the newly revealed characters: he also seems to be the character that Game Director Guangguang hinted at in the first Dev Diary as the launch trailer has Hulk and Wolverine performing their iconic Fastball Special, likely as a unique Team-Up between the two.
As many predicted, Black Widow is entering the game with a Widowmaker-esque sniper to mirror her partner Hawkeye. Sniper characters are a big pain point for Hero Shooters, with them often feeling too weak or too strong, but many are confident that she will be balanced appropriately, especially after having seen the higher risk and reward inherent in Hawkeye’s kit.

Of course, the new arrivals don’t just include heavy hitters and mainstream stars, as more underground or lesser known Heroes like Cloak and Dagger and Squirrel Girl have also been confirmed for launch. Cloak and Dagger are a superhero duo and, according to the launch trailer, they will likely act together as one Hero, with the player having the ability to switch between the two to access different abilities. Meanwhile, Squirrel Girl is best known for her goofy personality and ridiculous strength, both aspects that the Marvel Rivals iteration seems to have kept intact.
Arguably the most surprising addition is Iron Fist, who seems to have edged his way into the launch roster over Ultron, who was rumoured to be a new Strategist. The Marvel Rivals variant of Iron Fist seems to be based on the Lin Lie version of the character instead of the more popular and well-known Danny Rand.

As for what role each of the new characters will embody, Wolverine’s bulky frame, incredible healing factor and aggressive Team-Up with Hulk make him a confident pick for Vanguard, although he could also be a Duelist. Meanwhile, Iron Fist, Black Widow, and Squirrel Girl seem like easy shoe-ins for new Duelists, leaving only Cloak and Dagger as new Strategists. If these classes are accurate, Marvel Rivals will be launching with a total of 33 Heroes comprised of 9 Vanguards, 17 Duelists, and 7 Strategists.
Over the next week, the official Marvel Rivals social media accounts on Twitter (now X), YouTube, and Discord will be officially unveiling each of the newly revealed characters and showing off one of their launch Legendary Skins.
