In some disappointing news for Marvel Rivals fans, the game has removed mod support. In Marvel Rivals’ latest update, players discovered that mod support is no longer there and has likely been removed. The mods that appeared since the game’s release was used to change how the heroes looked. Despite the threat of getting banned due to the use of mods, several players depended on using them. However, this option is no longer available with the new update.
As Marvel Rivals has removed mod support, players might try to find an alternative. One of the possible alternatives is using cosmetics instead and being satisfied with what the game legally offers. With the new update, Marvel Rivals introduced a feature called asset hash checking.
This feature works through checking if any of the game’s files have been altered. If it found any files that it can’t recognize, the files will simply not work. This made players realize that Marvel Rivals has quietly removed mod support. NetEase did this move silently as it wasn’t added in the patch notes for season 1. However, players can still enjoy the game, especially with the Fantastic Four joining the game.
How Did Players React After Marvel Rivals Removed Mod Support
After Marvel Rivals removed mod support, players had different reactions toward the news. Most of the reactions were that of disappointment as many players used the mods. Some of the mods that were available included one that turned Mantis into a goth. While another mod turned Iron Man into Dragon Ball‘s Vegeta. MerryJoyKey, creator of the Marvel Rivals mod manager on NexusMods, wrote a comment on the platform discussing the news.
The latest update has introduced asset hash checking, so currently mods do not work. It’s possible, although not likely, that a workaround can be found and I will update everyone here, if/when that should happen

The situation of the mods was quickly escalating. One of the reasons for removing mod support is how players were using it. Along with mods leading to ban, some mods appeared that turned characters into previous USA presidents. However, NexusMods quickly removed any political mods from the site. Part of the site’s rules are against mods “relating to sociopolitical issues in the United States.” Following the decision of removing mod support, NetEase told IGN that “it is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned.”
