Lords of the Fallen has released its highly anticipated version 2.0 update, delivering a significant overhaul to the dark fantasy action RPG. Since its original launch in October 2023, the game has received extensive post-launch support, with the latest update aiming to deliver a definitive experience shaped by community feedback.
Calling it “the definitive edition”, the 2.0 upgrade comes at the tail-end of over 50 updates the game has had since its launch in 2023. Not to mention the good reception this launch had, compared to its original 2014 version. Grab a friend and jump in to the lands of Mournstead.
Major Co-Op Improvements and Free Friend’s Pass
Version 2.0 introduces full shared progression cross-play co-op. Players in the same new game playthrough, who have progressed similarly, now retain all mainline progress during co-op sessions. Defeated bosses and activated beacons are synchronized, and both players receive all loot, 100% of vigour, and the ability to revive one another, regardless of who is host or guest.
Additionally, the new Free Friend’s Pass allows anyone without the game to create a character, complete the tutorial, and then join a friend who owns the base game for cooperative play through the main campaign.
Revamped Combat and Movement
The update fully revamps character control and combat based on extensive player feedback and testing. Movement has been refined with tighter animations, improved physics, and a dedicated jump button for better platforming. Combat responsiveness has also been enhanced across all weapon classes, featuring:
- Reduced attack movement distance for more natural flow
- Tighter rolls and faster dashes for improved evasion
- Improved lock-on system to avoid targeting environmental elements
- Faster Soul Flay attacks for more dynamic combat
Audio for all weapon swings, blocks, and parries has been overhauled, intensifying the feedback for every hit and enhancing immersion.
Character Customization and Visual Upgrades
Players can now create more realistic and visually appealing characters, with both male and female options enhanced. The female body type features increased femininity and more face options. The user interface has been modernized for easier navigation and now offers dynamic and fully hideable HUD settings.
Quality of Life Enhancements
Version 2.0 adds numerous quality of life features, including:
- Automatic vigour collection
- New button prompts for critical attacks and environmental actions
- Streamlined tutorial with an in-game guidebook for easy reference
- An improved umbral lamp function to help guide players to their next vestige point
