Rockstar Games has released the first official trailer for the massively anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.
This first official look at GTA VI was supposed to go live on December 5th at 9 AM EST. However, after the entire trailer was leaked ahead of schedule, Rockstar posted the full first trailer early. Following the incident, the official Rockstar Twitter account tweeted, “Our trailer leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube” which concluded with a link to the video.

While the trailer contains no raw gameplay regarding shooting or exploration, the minute-and-a-half-long teaser shows us several key bits of information about the game via in-game cinematics. Perhaps the most exciting piece of news for long-time GTA fans is that GTA VI seems to return to Vice City, a fan-favourite location.
Other important details include the reveal of the two main characters, a woman named Lucia and someone who appears to be her romantic partner called Jason, with Lucia taking the leading role throughout the entire trailer. Based on previous reporting, we should expect Jason to be a playable character alongside Lucia and we should be able to freely switch between the two, as we could with the trio of protagonists in Grand Theft Auto V.
Aside from that, the rest of the trailer contains much of what you should expect from Grand Theft Auto, with a huge focus on the impressive-looking world and character models. The trailer ends with a reveal of the game’s logo and a 2025 release window. If GTA 6 releases around September 2025, there will have been a 12-year gap between Grand Theft Auto games.
GTA VI’s Protagonists
As one of the most highly anticipated titles of the last decade, Grand Theft Auto VI has been victim to several massive leaks which are sure to have affected morale at Rockstar. Most infamously, in September 2022 huge segments of the GTA VI code and gameplay were leaked online. This included videos that revealed the Bonnie-and-Clyde-themed leads, something which today’s trailer (and key art) seems to have confirmed. Even only a few days ago, a Rockstar employee’s son reportedly leaked parts of GTA VI early on TikTok.
With a release window set for 2025, likely the latter half of the year, we should expect to see more official information about Grand Theft Auto VI begin rolling out over the next few months.
