Final Fantasy director Naoki Yoshida says that it may be time for a sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, a cult classic tactical role-playing game released decades ago.
In a new interview with TheGamer, Yoshida – known in the industry as Yoshi P – says he too is a huge fan of Final Fantasy Tactics and says that he sees enough storytelling potential for another addition to the series. As stated by Yoshi P to TheGamer,
We have a lot of our staff who worked on previous games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Final Fantasy 12, so you’re going to have a lot of that [Tactics] feel because a lot of the same people are on the team… We love Tactics as well. It’s probably about time that we do a new one.
However, Yoshi P and Final Fantasy XVI director Takeo Kujiraok say that fans should expect Final Fantasy XVI as the template for a new entry into the Final Fantasy Tactics series, according to TheGamer’s report. Furthermore, in November 2023, Final Fantasy Tactics writer and designer Yasumi Matsuno tweeted that there are no plans for a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster.
Currently, there are no plans for remastering.
Also, you have to convey your request to SQEX, not me.

Final Fantasy Tactics was released in January 1998 and quickly became a fan favorite within the community. As of 2011, it sold over 2.4 million copies worldwide, according to Square Enix. It is set in the Kingdom of Ivalice, which is the same place Final Fantasy XII takes place.
In 2003, Square Enix released Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, a simpler version of the game for the Game Boy Advance, and in 2007 they released its indirect sequel, Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.
Last month, Square Enix announced the launch of The Rising Tide DLC, Final Fantasy XVI’s final chapter, which is slated to launch April 18th.
