Dune: Awakening Release Date Moved to June 10th

The release date of Dune: Awakening has been pushed back to June 10th, the team at Funcom have just announced. This decision was made after feedback received from players during the game's Closed Beta.

Dune Awakening's Release Date Moved to June 10th

Dune: Awakening, the upcoming MMORPG developed and published by Funcom, was originally meant to be coming out on May 20th. However, the release date has been postponed to June 10th, three weeks more than the original release date. Funcom have their reasons for this pushback, wanting to give the game a little extra polish based on feedback given by players from the Closed Beta.

Funcom’s Statement

On April 15th, Funcom published an important statement regarding Dune: Awakening‘s status, including its new release date.

Pre-Launch Timeline

With Dune: Awakening‘s launch impending, a major preview beta has been launched to allow journalists and content creators to get their hands on the game early to play the earlier parts. Coverage from this will begin to come out from April 25th.

Over the past few weeks, the Character Creator and Benchmark Mode were made available back in February, and then in March, pre-orders for Dune: Awakening began. Funcom have also been releasing livestreams, videos, and details leading up to launch.

Closed Beta Feedback

Dune: Awakening currently has a Persistent Closed Beta, which includes regular updates, and the team have been receiving invaluable feedback from beta testers to ensure the launch of a quality game. This feedback has been communicated directly between the testers and the developers via Discord.

With all this feedback processed by the developers, they have come to the conclusion that Dune: Awakening needs a little extra time to be finalized and polished before launch. For that reason, they have decided to move Dune Awakening‘s release date from May 20th to June 10th. Head start will be launching on June 5th.

Funcom acknowledges that this decision was not made lightly and that they are very aware of how excited many players are to finally get their hands on the game. However, they believe that the extra three weeks will give the developers the time they need to make improvements based on beta testing feedback that will ultimately lead to better gameplay from day one of Dune‘s launch.

Extra Beta Weekend Next Month

There is good news coming out of this delay. The extra time means that next month, a large-scale beta weekend can be hosted where even more players can join the testing process and provide even more feedback. More information regarding this will be shared soon.

According to Funcom, Dune: Awakening is a huge game, being a MMORPG, and they’re eager to make gameplay and technical strides not seen in the genre before. They want to make sure they get it right.

You can read the full statement from Funcom themselves, but this is more-or-less all the info they provided.
