Dune Awakening PvE and PvP Endgame Update – Deep Desert & Landsraad Changes

Dune: Awakening – PvE and PvP Endgame Changes Explained

The developers of Dune: Awakening have officially addressed concerns about endgame PvE content, Deep Desert PvP balance, and the Landsraad system. This post breaks down every confirmed update from the latest message by Creative Director Joel Bylos, including changes to Scout Ornithopters, Partial Warfare zones, and the future of solo and guild progression in the Deep Desert.

1. PvE Players Will Have Access to Endgame Content

Funcom confirms that PvE players will not be locked out of endgame activities. The design intent is to let solo players and non-PvP guilds participate in meaningful progression systems.

  • Partial Warfare (PvE) zones are being added to the Deep Desert.
  • These new zones will allow T6 harvesting and Testing Station exploration without PvP threats.
  • High-risk PvP zones (like Landsraad control points and spice fields) will remain unchanged as War of Assassins (PvP).

2. Scout Ornithopter PvP Nerfs Are Coming

The first major vehicle combat rebalancing targets Scout Ornithopters. These changes aim to reduce aerial dominance and give ground units more tactical relevance.

  • Scout Ornithopters with rocket launchers will have reduced speed and maneuverability.
  • Rocket heat generation will be increased to limit spamming.
  • Thruster-equipped Scouts will gain the highest top speed regardless of wings.
  • A new T5 Infantry Rocket Launcher will be introduced to counter airborne vehicles.

3. PvP Will Be Optional by Design

The Deep Desert is still meant to be tense and dynamic, but not punishing. Players who plan well can always avoid unwanted PvP.

  • Retreating is a core mechanic – escaping with partial rewards is always possible if you’re alert.
  • PvP is designed to occur only when both sides want to contest a location.
  • The system supports combined arms combat with air, ground, and infantry each playing distinct roles.

4. Landsraad Endgame Progression Will Expand

The Landsraad is intended to be the primary framework for endgame PvE and PvP progression. Changes are coming to improve its functionality and accessibility.

  • Endgame players will see daily and weekly tasks themed around political influence and house reputation.
  • Item hand-in bugs and over-fast square completions are being addressed.
  • Micro rewards are being planned for solo and small-group players.
  • More content will be added under the Landsraad system: dungeons, contracts, deliveries, and potential future raids.

5. More PvE Endgame Content Is Coming

The developers are committed to delivering more free and paid PvE content over time. This includes expanded world systems and activity types for both casual and hardcore players.

  • Future updates will improve activity variety and progression pacing.
  • Stockpiling is being phased out as a viable Landsraad strategy.
  • Faction vendors and late-game rewards will be rebalanced to better reflect effort.

6. Developer Transparency and Iteration Plans

Funcom has promised increased transparency and player collaboration. The Deep Desert’s weekly reset system allows fast iteration on layouts and risk zones based on player surveys and behavior.

  • More surveys will be shared as changes roll out.
  • The team is treating Dune: Awakening as a live service that evolves with the community.
