During today’s Future Games Show the indie studio Irregular Shapes announced that their new creative builder City Tales – Medieval Era, will soon enter early access. The goal is to gather community feedback, gauge player reception before the full release, and improve the general experience. Published by Firesquid, this medieval kingdom simulator early access will be available on Steam starting May 22, 2025.
You may have already heard of it, as it made a successful first impression during the Steam Next Fest, where nearly 20,000 players had the chance to try the demo and share their thoughts. However, if you missed it due to the overwhelming number of demos at the event, don’t worry—it’s now available again as part of the City Builder & Colony Sim Fest.
At this point, you might be wondering: why should I play early access if I already tried the demo? Well, think of the demo as a sneak peek of the upcoming early access and keep in mind that it’s still under development.
By putting you in the role of a medieval lord tasked with shaping and expanding your kingdom, City Tales – Medieval Era promises a blend of 3D building and a dynamic storyline that evolves based on your decisions
The early access version will feature over 50 types of resources and more than 60 types of buildings, along with an innovative urban planning tool that lets you draw districts. This will give you multiple ways to transform small hamlets into thriving medieval cities, complete with evolving structures and monumental landmarks.
Additionally, City Tales – Medieval Era will introduce a companion system to further emphasize the narrative aspect of the game. These characters will work alongside you to improve your city, and your decisions will shape their individual stories.
As with most early access titles, the developers plan to expand the content regularly, adding more buildings, resources, and a deeper companion system with enhanced narrative elements. Future updates will also include new maps and quality-of-life improvements.
The early access version will also feature a photo mode, allowing players to capture and share their creations with the Steam community or on social media.
If you’re interested in keeping up with updates on City Tales – Medieval Era, you can add it to your wishlist, follow Irregular Shapes on social media, or join their Discord server.
