Blastoise Drop Event Live in Pokemon TCG Pocket With Exclusive Promo Cards

A new Solo Battle event has arrived in Pokemon TCG Pocket to mark the New Year and, this time, it's another Drop Event featuring the beloved Kanto Water starter Blastoise. Like the Venusuar and Lapras ex Drop Events, players will battle against several Blastoise-themed decks for a chance to earn Pack Hourglasses, Shop Tickets, and five exclusive new Promo Cards.

Blastoise Drop Event Live in Pokemon TCG Pocket With Exclusive Promo Cards

The first big Solo Battle event in Pokemon TCG Pocket since the launch of the Mythical Island Themed Booster Set has arrived, bringing with it several exciting new promo cards as well as plenty of extra rewards to earn. The Blastoise Drop Event is a new Solo Battle event following in the footsteps of the Venusaur and Lapras ex Drop Events, giving Trainers a series of new Water-themed decks to face in hopes of earning Pack Hourglasses, Wonder Hourglasses, Shop Tickets, and a set of exclusive promo cards featuring new art.

The Blastoise Drop Event in Pokemon TCG Pocket is split up into four stages of varying difficulty, each of which is equipped with a Blastoise-focused deck. Lower difficulty stages will only have Stage 1 Pokemon, whereas the later stages will come armed with multiple ex Pokemon. All of the Pokemon featured in this event are weak to Electric, so last week’s Electric Mass Outbreak Event should have given players a few more options when it comes to deck building, especially when Pikachu ex is still as strong as ever. Each stage has several Battle Challenges tied to it and completing each battle for the first time will net you Player EXP, Shop Tickets, and Pack Hourglasses.

To start a Drop Event stage, players will need to spend one Event Stamina. Like with Wonder Stamina, you can hold up to five Event Stamina at any one time and it regenerates at a rate of one stamina per 12 hours. As a reward for clearing Battle Tasks in the Beginner and Intermediate stages, you will earn Event Hourglasses which will immediately refill your Event Stamina. You can obtain a total of 15 Event Hourglasses during the event, equating to 15 free battles.

Each time you successfully clear one of the Event Solo Battle Stages in the Blastoise Drop Event, there is a chance that you’ll walk away with a shiny A-Series Volume 3 Promo Pack. These special one-card packs contain one of five Promo Cards which are earned exclusively through this event. The odds of receiving a Promo Pack at the end of a duel increase as the difficulty of the battle increases, with the Expert Stage guaranteeing a Promo Pack for every victory.

Blastoise is the next of the Kanto Starter trio to get a special Promo Card and, just like with the Venusaur Drop Event, this new Promo Blastoise isn’t to be confused for a new variant of Blastoise ex. Instead, it’s a Promo Reprint of the base Blastoise from Genetic Apex, which is a less powerful but far more cost-effective version of the ex-card. It has 150 HP, making it extremely tangy for a non-ex Stage 2 Pokemon, with the move Hydro Pump, which deals 80 damage for 3 Energy and will deal an additional 60 damage if you manage to get at least two extra Water Energy attached to it.

Alongside the new Blastoise Promo, the Volume 3 Promo Packs can drop four other cards featuring other Pokemon. The cards in question are new reprints of Cinccino (Genetic Apex) and Volcarona (Mythical Island) with new art and the TCG Pocket Promo Stamp. There is also a brand new Snivy and a new Eevee card, although it is unique as it has the same attack as Vulpix, Growl. Whether it sees play over the Mythical Island Eevee (which has a decent amount of potential in Jolteon or Vaporeon-focused decks) is yet to be seen.
