Astro Bot Announces Free Speedrun DLC With New Stellar Blade and HELLDIVERS 2 Special Bots

Even though it only launched at the beginning of September, a new trailer for Astro Bot at the September 2024 State of Play has confirmed that the game will receive a piece of free DLC sometime during Fall 2024. This free add-on to the base game will add five new speedrun stages to complete as well as a bunch of new Special Bots to rescue, including some from Stellar Blade and HELLDIVERS 2.

After a massive launch in early September, some free DLC for Astro Bot has been confirmed during the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play showcase with a flashy new trailer. The DLC be completely free for all players and is set to release at some point in the Fall of this year.

Firstly, the free DLC will add five new online speedrun stages for players to compete in. If these stages are similar to those seen in Astro Bot’s Playroom then they will offer a good deal of challenge with little room for error. In the trailer, we got to see that these stages will take place in familiar locals from the main Astro Bot galaxies and will feature several of the gadgets used in the main game.

The speedrun stages in Astro Bot’s Playroom were the most frequently revisited aspect of that game thanks to their leaderboards and, thanks to an official PlayStation Blog article on the new Astro Bot DLC, we know that online leaderboards will also be available for the five new stages. You can use these leaderboards to compete against your PlayStation Friends or even the entire world.

Perhaps the most eye-catching new information about the trailer is that there will be 10 new Bots to rescue. These new additions will include the likes of the liberator-loving Helldivers from HELLDIVERS 2 as well as the badass android EVE from Stellar Blade. Whether the other eight Bots will include more characters from these franchises – such as Stellar Blade’s Adam, Lily or Raven – is yet to be seen, although they appear to be from other Sony series.

According to the PlayStation Blog post we referenced earlier, rescuing these Bots will be tied to beating cheeky birds to the finish line in the new speedrun stages. With ten new Bots to find, there should be two Bots to rescue per level, likely each with a different time requirement. In the trailer, we see the EVE Bot shoot away on a rocket after a failed attempt to beat the mischievous bluebird, so make sure to hone your platforming skills if you want to take all of these new Bots back to the Landing Site.

The new Bots will also have their associated items added to the Gacha Lab, two of which we get to see in the trailer. The Helldiver’s item is, of course, a great standard bearing the sigil of Super Earth, whereas EVE gets to enjoy some beverages at a copy of the vending machines seen at Stellar Blade’s rest spots.

This new piece of free DLC for Astro Bot will launch sometime in Autumn 2024.
