September was a great way to start off the coziest season of the year, but October is thriving. Not only is it full of some incredibly beautiful indie debuts – but one of the biggest franchises is releasing a new game. That’s right, Life is Strange will be continued through a sequel entitled Life is Strange: Double Exposure. Aside from this, there’s so many games to indulge in that it may be time to start getting that Christmas list together!
Neva
Neva is a heartfelt tale of a young woman and her bond with a special wolf. This game is beautifully constructed and the visuals are enchanting, which is no surprise considering it is from the same team that created Gris. As the world around them decays, Alba and her wolf companion are dedicated to surviving together through love and teamwork. This reminds me greatly of Planet of Lana. You’ll be able to help this duo find peace on October 15th on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.
Some Goodbyes We Made
This game will be releasing on October 24th and available on Steam only. This is perfect for anyone looking for something on the shorter side as it is essentially a collection of memories transformed into 11 mini games. Each mini game has its own style and holds a sentimental memory that reflects on the complexity of saying goodbye. There’s sadness, love, beauty, new experiences, and a deep emotional story told all within an hour of gameplay.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Now, this game is a super exciting release but has actually been getting mixed reviews of anticipation. Some fans of the franchise disagree with the release of the project as a whole because the original game never eluded to a sequel. The price point seems to be another issue and rightfully so. The base game is $50, a couple outfit packs in the Deluxe Edition brings it up to $60, and even more outfits will bring it up to $80 for the Ultimate Edition. Frankly, I don’t think outfit upgrades are really necessary at all to enjoy the game – so I will be sticking to the base game only when it eventually (hopefully) releases on the Nintendo Switch,
Max will have to revisit her powers after years of ignoring them, will this end up like another Arcadia Bay situation?
Double Exposure, nevertheless, is a game I’m really excited to see release because I have loved the franchise thus far. Following alongside Max years after the Arcadia Bay incident will be interesting to see. I’m hoping the story itself lives up to its predecessor and pulls on my heart strings as much as Life is Strange did. It’ll be available to play on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Steam on October 29th.
Kind Words 2
Kind Words 2 is a super interesting concept that I have never seen before. It’s basically a gamified version of social media, but the point is to be kind with one another. Real world players will be able to send each other letters and communicate in the game. It’s a cozy game about caring! Attend poetry sessions, swap stories or life tips, recommend new media to one another, and seek or give advice when needed. It will be releasing on Steam on October 7th.
Cabernet
For the spooky season fans, this one is for you! Cabernet will be releasing on October 24th on Steam. You’ll be playing as a newly turned vampire in the 19th century that must make decisions on how to live your new life. With themes of social conflict, alcoholism, and corruption, this game is more than just a vampire tale. Your choices matter, so make them wisely as you figure out whether you want to succumb to the darkness or play by your own rules.
