I’ve been using the Xbox Series X for about four years. The original Xbox from 2001 was actually the console that got me heavily into console gaming when I was mostly a PC gamer during my childhood. Ever since that moment happened, I stuck to the Xbox platform as my preferred console gaming platform. Four years has definitely done a lot to the Xbox Series X playing experience.
Admittedly, Microsoft is still lacking that quality exclusive built from the ground up to showcase the Series consoles’ hardware power, but there are still a decent amount of games that are worth mentioning. I’m here to tell you which games are the ones that you must absolutely play if you do happen to have this console or if you’re interested in buying the most powerful gaming console currently. These games are the ones that you won’t just play it once and never play it again.
They will always give you an incentive to come back to them because these games are simply built with quality. Here are the five best games you can play on the Xbox Series consoles!
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is certainly a must have game if you didn’t play through the Xbox One era. Back in those times, the game was definitely bug ridden, but it is a completely different game in today’s times. Its value mostly comes from allowing gamers to be able to play multiple Halo first-person shooters titles with ease. You only have to pay a price for one game and you get multiple games with lots of content to offer. This game is certainly for those who enjoy playing games with a wide range of different game modes to play.
The series is certainly known for having an engaging single player experience, but it can also addict you if you’re a big multiplayer enthusiast. Halo has always been a fantastic series since the original game. Back in those days, there just wasn’t a game that perfected console shooters like Halo did, and it is still a game that hasn’t lost its touch. These games are old, but the fact that there are still a decent amount of players still playing it to this day, tells you the old Halo games will always remain to be timeless.
Diablo II: Resurrected
Just like the last game I mentioned, this is another old game that originated in the early 2000s, but it will never show its age because it’s simply the most influential action-role playing game of all time. Diablo II: Resurrected is basically a passionate remake of the original games, but it does add new content to it. It’s without a doubt the best way to play Diablo II in today’s times. If you haven’t played Diablo II back in its prime, it’s still a game that’s worth playing, and it’s also a game that isn’t going to be too expensive to buy.
With so many different types of builds that one can approach, and it is a game that’s designed to make you brainstorm to figure the fullest potential of your character. Keep in mind, these types of games are only going to get better the more time you invest it. Diablo II: Resurrected is for those that enjoy killing demons, but at the same time a fiend for searching godly loot.
Halo Infinite
I might’ve mentioned one Halo game already, but it’s also important for me to mention this particular Halo title. First and foremost, Halo: Infinite was supposed to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X & S, but it was eventually delayed. On launch day, the game certainly delivered with both a solid campaign and multiplayer experience, but it did feel like it was undercooked at the same time. Throughout the years, this Halo game has gotten much better with so many updates that 343 Industries has done to the game.
The game has much more quality of life like having cooperative functionality for campaign, a map editor, and lots of new maps for multiplayer. It’s a game that has evolved greatly since its inception, and what’s great is the game is technically free to play if you only care about the multiplayer. You are going to have to pay for the campaign if you prefer to play the story content. No matter what kind of player you are, Halo Infinite will certainly give you a lot of value in 2024, and it will continue to become a bigger game because it is a live service title.
Doom Eternal
If you’re looking for a single player driven game that’s an adrenaline rush from start to end, and offers the player a decent amount of content, Doom Eternal would like to have a word with you. Doom Eternal has definitely took what made Doom 2016 so thrilling with its combat system, and improves upon it to make the player feel like they are the ultimate power fantasy. The combat is much denser and complex which will only make the game more interesting once you put in the time to understand it at its fullest potential.
Throughout the campaign, you will go through many diverse locations that will showcase the power of id Tech 7, and listening to the awesome soundtrack by Mick Gordon. Outside of the standard campaign missions, the developers do offer remixed levels called “Master Levels” which are designed to be more challenging than the original levels. There are some additional downloadable content if you’re hungering for more story content and curious of where the Doom Slayer’s journey goes after the base campaign. There’s also a survival mode that was added later on which is certainly fun for these action-oriented games.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest. However, I do believe its right for me to mention the sequel for this list because most importantly, this game is optimized for the Xbox Series consoles. It is subjective of whether the first game is better or inferior compared to the second one, but both of these games are well crafted platformers with a beautiful art style.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a metroidvania styled game, so expect to explore the game’s world a lot and acquire upgrades for Ori to become stronger as you get closer to the late game. This is one of these games where it’s much better to play and immerse yourself into the world because of the satisfying art style and music. It will be an experience that you will appreciate the game for, and it will leave you wanting more once you’re done with your initial playthrough.
These are the five games I’d recommend new Xbox Series console users to try out. It should be noted that majority of these games are on Xbox Game Pass. I hope you found my suggestion enticing enough to give these games a playthrough if you’ve never tried them.
