Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut made its announcement during the last Nintendo Direct in April. At that event, they revealed that this new version of the game will include new cutscenes and some additional content. Now, thanks to an interview from Famitsu with Makoto Suzuki, producer at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, we know more details about what this version of the first chronological title in the series will bring.
One of the most notable aspects mentioned in the Direct was the inclusion of new cutscenes. In total, they will add 26 additional minutes. The cutscenes have been described as episodes recently recreated that were removed from the original release.
In addition to the unreleased scenes, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will include a new multiplayer mode that will utilize GameChat, one of the star features of Nintendo Switch 2. Suzuki revealed that this mode was born from the team’s desire to use this new feature of the console.
In this mode, gameplay will focus on clearing stages full of enemies, and can be played either solo or with up to four players. As you progress, you will unlock characters without the need for microtransactions. In total, there will be a roster of 60 characters available.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio also revealed the technical aspects of the game on Switch 2. Suzuki confirmed that in dock mode, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will run at 4K and 60 FPS. The producer didn’t give figures for handheld mode, but he commented that the new LCD screen’s quality surprised him, as it displays such beautiful images on a device that you can take with you.
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will be released on June 5, 2025, the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2. For now, the developers have only confirmed this version for the new Nintendo console, although they haven’t ruled out its release on other platforms later on.
