We’re close to learning all the details about the Nintendo Switch 2 during the Nintendo Direct on April 2, but rumors about the console keep popping up. Now, journalist Imran Khan, known for leaking the existence of Everybody 1-2 Switch, claims that Nintendo has denied Embracer Group the Switch 2 development kits.
According to Imran Khan, Nintendo believes that Embracer Group is chaotic and fears that the development kits could end up in studios that might close, which would put these devices at risk. However, he mentions that the studios that have separated from Embracer after recent sales would not have this problem.
Nintendo is concerned about Embracer’s stability
Embracer Group is one of the largest companies in the industry, owning numerous studios and well-known franchises. One of its most notable acquisitions was that of Crystal Dynamics, responsible for Tomb Raider, along with its franchises.
In recent years, the company has shown great instability, closing studios, selling companies, and canceling projects. This makes it understandable that Nintendo is cautious about sharing its development tools.
Nintendo is known for being extremely secretive about its intellectual property, and development kits are no exception. There are even rumors that some studios have not yet received access to them, which could affect the development of games for the new console.
This situation resembles what happened with the current Nintendo Switch, where many developers, especially medium-sized and indie studios, took a while to receive the kits or had to resort to publishers to get them. However, seeing how successful the console turned out to be, this should not be a cause for alarm.
Do you think Nintendo is right to deny development kits to Embracer Group? Or could this harm the console? Leave your opinion in the comments.
