The wait was long, but finally GameCube joins the benefits of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, though only for Switch 2. The games included will receive improvements in resolution, button remapping, save states, and online options, in some cases.
This addition to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription will arrive on June 5, 2025, the same day the Nintendo Switch 2 is released. Initially, the game catalog will be limited, but it will expand over time.
Confirmed GameCube games arriving on June 5, 2025
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker – A highly requested game that, with its arrival to the service, diminishes the possibility of a port of its HD version from Wii U.
- Soulcalibur II – A 3D fighting game, part of the famous SoulCalibur saga, which in this installment is notable for featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda as a playable character.
- F-Zero GX – Although it is not a new game, this version will include local and online multiplayer modes.
Upcoming games arriving soon
Although there is no official list of games coming later, during the presentation of the addition of GameCube to Switch Online, some confirmed titles were seen:
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
- Pokémon Colosseum
- Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness
- Mario Smash Football
- Chibi-Robo!
- Luigi’s Mansion
Additionally, a Nintendo Switch 2 wireless controller will be released that replicates the design of the original GameCube controller. This new controller will feature additional buttons, such as the Home button and the C button. This controller will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.
In the Nintendo Direct, it was shown that the controller will only be compatible with the GameCube catalog, something we hope will change in the future to make greater use of it. The GameCube controller will go on sale on June 5, 2025.
Although it’s exciting that GameCube is joining Switch Online + Expansion Pack, it’s a shame it can’t be enjoyed on the first Nintendo Switch.
