Throughout the lifecycle of the first Nintendo Switch, many games were left out of the console due to technical limitations. However, Switch 2 finally brings those impossible ports, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy VII Remake, to the delight of gamers.
The last Nintendo Direct in April was full of announcements, from a new Hyrule Warriors to the confirmation of a new game from FromSoftware exclusive to Switch 2. But one of the highlights was the arrival of major third-party titles to the console. Here we present the most important ones:
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition
Not only does the base game arrive on Nintendo Switch 2, but it does so in its definitive edition: Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. This port includes the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, new armor pieces, and a customization option for Torrent, our mount.
For now, this edition has only been announced for Nintendo Switch 2, although it wouldn’t be surprising if it later launches on other platforms. It will be released at some point in 2025.
Street Fighter 6
Considered the top fighting game of the moment, Street Fighter 6 is about to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2. It includes exclusive features, such as motion controls and the option to enjoy local battles, either with another console or using a Joy-Con for each player.
The game will be available in two versions:
- Standard Edition, which includes only the base game.
- Years 1-2 Fighters Edition, which adds 26 playable characters to the original roster.
Additionally, Amiibos of Luke, Jamie, and Kimberly, along with 22 Amiibo cards of other fighters, will be released on June 5, 2025, accompanying the game’s launch.
Split Fiction
Following the success of It Takes Two on Nintendo Switch, Josef Fares brings to Switch 2 a port of his new cooperative game: Split Fiction. In this title, players will control two novelists with opposing ideas, exploring the worlds they have created themselves.
Fares assures that if you enjoyed It Takes Two, you will like this game even more. Split Fiction will be released on June 5, 2025, being another one of the console’s launch games.
Hogwarts Legacy
This port raises doubts, since Hogwarts Legacy is already available on Nintendo Switch 1. However, the trailer shown at the Nintendo Direct presented it as a game for Switch 2, that is, a new standalone version, so it was not clarified whether current players will be able to upgrade their copy.
The Switch 2 version will feature enhanced graphics, smoother scene transitions, and compatibility with the Joy-Con’s mouse mode.
Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut
Another title joining the Switch 2 catalog is Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut. This definitive edition takes us to Tokyo and Osaka in the late 80s to explore the origins of the saga.
This version includes new cutscenes that expand the story, even for those who have already played the original version. Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut will be released on June 5, 2025, along with the console.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition
Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most controversial releases of the last generation due to its technical issues, but CD Projekt Red managed to redeem it and turn it into one of the best action RPGs of today.
Now, its definitive edition, which includes the Phantom Liberty DLC, will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2. It’s surprising how good it looks and moves in the launch trailer. It will be released on June 5, 2025.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
It seemed that the Final Fantasy VII remake would never leave PlayStation, but its enhanced and expanded version is on its way to Nintendo Switch 2.
This announcement could also open the door to a potential Xbox version. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will arrive on Switch 2 at a date still to be defined, but it promises not to be the only Final Fantasy VII title on the console.
Other Upcoming Games
More games were showcased during this event, primarily titles that have not yet been released but have already confirmed their version for Nintendo Switch 2, such as Hades II and Borderlands 4. 2K and EA also confirmed that their annual sports titles, like EA Sports FC and WWE 2K, will be released on Switch 2.
Hollow Knight: Silksong also made an appearance to remind us that it exists and wasn’t just a dream. Although it only showed up for a few seconds, at the end of the Nintendo Direct, it at least came with a number: 2025. It’s not much, but it’s something… We suppose.
Are you ready for the release of Switch 2 or will you still stick with Switch 1? Will you buy any of these ports on Switch 2? Tell us in the comments.
