Inner Ways in Where Winds Meet are the passive abilities that you equip on your character to boost Martial Arts Weapons. Their effects only apply during combat, but they don’t do anything when you’re outside of fights. You can equip up to four Inner Ways at the same time, so choosing them carefully is crucial.
Types of Inner Ways
There are two types of Inner Ways. Weapon-Specific Inner Ways and Universal Inner Ways. While the Weapon-Specific Inner Ways provide full benefits if you use certain Martial Arts, the Universal Inner Ways work no matter what weapon you’re using. As you progress through the world, you will unlock new Inner Ways, and some Inner Ways are unlocked via Torn Pages that you can buy from NPC merchants, or via puzzle clues.
How To Upgrade Inner Ways
Inner Ways Breakthrough system in Where Winds Meet is unlocked after reaching Solo Mode Level 4. You can easily reach level 4 by completing the very first quest in the game.
Methods to unlock Inner Ways
- Torn Pages / Inner Way Tomes sold by NPC merchants.
- Legacy clues/quests: Complete missions, explore zones, or solve puzzles to unlock certain Inner Ways.
- Sanctums / Martial Arts Theft: Unlock weapon-path specific Inner Ways by completing sanctum challenges or stealing teachings.
Once unlocked, each Inner Way starts at Tier 1, and you can upgrade to Tier 2, Tier 3, and so on. Some Inner Ways are unlocked or advanced by buying their Torn Page / Tip Tomes from merchants; others require following world clues or completing sanctums. Use the Bag → Develop shortcuts to jump straight to the correct shop entry.
1. Buy Torn Pages (merchant method)
- Open Main Menu → Develop → Inner Ways.
- Select the specific Inner Way you want to unlock.
- If it can be purchased, click ‘Read More / Buy Torn Page’ (button shown on the Inner Way entry).
- The game marks the selling Merchant on the map automatically — go to that merchant and buy the Torn Page / Tome.
2. Unlock by following clues (clue/quest method)
- Open Main Menu → Develop → Inner Ways.
- Select the Inner Way you want and click Comprehend Inner Way (lower-right).
- Click Comprehend the Clue → then Explore.
- If you have gathered enough clues, the game highlights the map area you must visit.
- Go to that location and complete the interaction (NPC, puzzle, quest). The reward will include the Inner Way Tome or unlock the Inner Way.
3. Unlock via Martial Arts Sanctums (skill theft/sanctum method)
- Enter the Martial Art Sanctum for the weapon path (e.g., Heavenquaker Spear Sanctum).
- Perform Skill Theft/complete the sanctum’s objectives and collect treasure chests.
- Stealing or unlocking the Martial Art may grant a weapon-specific Inner Way.
4. Buy Tip Tomes from the shop (fast upgrade method)
- Open Bag → Develop → Inner Ways.
- Select an Inner Way you want to upgrade.
- Click Inner Way Breakthrough → Material requirement → More → Inner Way Tips – Tome.
- This opens the shop UI for Tip Tomes.
- Buy 20 Tip Tomes weekly. Tomes yield random Tips — either wait for desired drops or use the Tips Exchange to reroll.
Tips Exchange
Tips Exchange is a feature that allows you to exchange Inner Ways that you no longer need for Vintage Bookplates. You can then use Vintage Bookplates to purchase Recommendation Tomes that drop Tips for the Martial Art you actually use.
Step to Use Tips Exchange
- Open Bag → Develop → Inner Ways → Tips Exchange.
- Click Obtain Book Tokens to enter the recycling station.
- Select the Inner Way Tips/manuals you don’t need (for unused weapons/paths).
- Click Recycle → you receive a Vintage Bookplate (amount depends on tip rarity).
- In the same menu or merchant UI, spend Vintage Bookplate on Recommendation Tomes.
- When buying, choose the Recommendation Tome that matches the Martial Art/weapon path you use (or choose Universal).
- Open the Recommendation Tome → you receive a random Tip from the selected Martial Art pool or Universal pool.
- Repeat recycling and buying until you have the Tips needed for your Breakthrough upgrades.
Notes
- Recycle unwanted Tips first — higher rarity manuals yield more Vintage Bookplates.
- Recommendation Tomes give random Tips only from the pool tied to the chosen path, so select the correct Martial Art when purchasing.
Inner Way Conversion
Exchange the tips of specific Inner Ways for the tips of Inner Ways you want to upgrade by using the Inner Way Conversion method. Only Purple and Gold-ranked Inner Ways can be converted with this method.
Steps to Use Inner Way Conversion
- Open Bag → Develop → Inner Ways → Inner Way Conversion.
- Confirm both Inner Ways you intend to convert are Purple or Gold (conversion blocked for lower ranks).
- You’ll see two empty slots in the Conversion tab.
- Place the Inner Way you want to receive more Tips into Slot A.
- Place the Inner Way you want to donate Tips from into Slot B.
- Verify the tip counts displayed for each Inner Way (these numbers will be swapped).
- Click Convert Inner Way to perform the swap.
Keep these things in mind while using Inner Way Conversion.
- After conversion, both Inner Ways enter a 7-day cooldown and cannot be converted again during that cooldown.
- You get 4 free conversions per season. After that, each conversion costs Vintage Bookplates.
