The Wrenwood chapter is the opening sequence in Resident Evil Requiem, introducing players to the game’s dual-perspective structure through Grace Ashcroft’s investigation and Leon’s pursuit of Victor Gideon.
This section focuses on slow exploration, environmental storytelling, and scripted survival encounters, gradually easing players into the game’s mechanics before combat becomes more demanding.
1. Wrenwood Street
You start the game with a cutscene: Grace Ashcroft is in her office when her superior tells her a new victim linked to a mysterious disease has been found in the Wrenwood Hotel — the same hotel where her mother was killed 8 years ago.
- Keep walking straight on the sidewalk until you reach a police car.
- Pickup two early files on the street: Wrenwood City Guide: On the sidewalk near the barber shop. Investigation Report: Automatically in your inventory as you enter the hotel.
- Follow the path forward — the game guides you toward an alley that leads to the hotel’s back entrance through police tape.
2. Entering Wrenwood Hotel
After you reach the police tape, a cutscene will play in which Grace talks to the police officer who guides her into the Wrenwood Hotel.
- Crouch and slip through the scaffolding to get past barriers at the rear of the building.
- Inside, it’s dark — use your flashlight when prompted.
- Head into the Lounge & Bar area. On the floor, you can pick up the Hotel Pamphlet — another file.
- Explore a bit (you may find small documents), but stay on the main path that leads deeper.
- When you reach the Lobby, interact with a framed photo of Grace on the bar counter — crucial to progressing.
- Rotate the photo of Grace to get an old key and a message, “Meet me in Room 204.”
3. Getting the Hotel Map & Tools
After the Lobby photo, head to the Hotel Office, usually just off the lobby area.
- Interact with the map on the wall to add it to your inventory — it helps with orientation in this section.
- Proceed upstairs — there’s a locked stairwell door (emergency exit) ahead that will require a key later.
- Go to the door on the left that’s locked with chains and interact with it.
- Go back towards the stairs, find a toolbox on top of the pool/billiard table to pick up Wire Cutters.
- Use Wire Cutters to cut the chained door and head forward.
4. Room 204 and the Memory Sequence
After opening the locked door, move down the hallway and reach room 204, then move toward the bed. Interact with the photos and personal items placed on top of the bed. This interaction automatically triggers a flashback sequence featuring Grace and her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, from years earlier.
During the flashback, control shifts into a scripted, interactive sequence rather than free exploration. Follow Alyssa as she leads you through parts of the hotel interior, moving forward whenever control is given. At one point, Alyssa discreetly hides a set of documents, placing them behind a painting.
5. Finding the Hidden Documents
Once control returns to Grace Ashcroft, exit Room 204 and make your way back toward the Lobby. As you move through the hotel, retrace the general path shown during the flashback sequence.
- In the Lobby area, focus on the exact location where Alyssa hid the documents during the memory.
- Look closely at the nearby painting or wall fixture, as this is where the documents were concealed. Approach the spot and wait for the interaction prompt to appear.
- Interact with the object to retrieve the hidden documents, officially advancing the investigation.
6. Escaping the Wrenwood Hotel
Immediately after collecting the documents, a short cutscene triggers automatically. The cutscene abruptly transitions into Grace’s first enemy encounter inside the Wrenwood Hotel. The police officer attacks Grace, initiating a quick-time event (QTE).
- Carefully follow the on-screen button prompts during the struggle to survive the encounter.
- Keep holding F to get your hand free and press A and D to dodge the police officer shooting his gun.
- Once the QTE sequence ends, control resumes, and head to the emergency exit door where you were attacked.
7. Reach Top Floor to Victor Gideon
After unlocking the Emergency Exit, you will hear ambient music coming from the top floor. Keep moving towards the music, and you will reach the room, and a cutscene will start. This introduces the antagonist Victor Gideon, and Grace’s Wrenwood walkthrough concludes and transitions towards Leon.
8. Chase Victor Through the Wrenwood Streets (Leon)
After the cutscene following Grace’s escape, control switches to Leon S. Kennedy. You begin on the Wrenwood streets, surrounded by debris, abandoned vehicles, and signs of recent violence. As you advance, scan the environment carefully for handgun ammo and green herbs placed along the route.
- Move toward the right side of the street, where several enemies gather and the path naturally funnels Leon forward.
- Decide to fight or avoid enemies based on your available ammo and health.
- As you progress, a cutscene triggers, during which Leon obtains the Report on Victor Gideon.
- After the cutscene, continue advancing through the streets, staying on the main route.
- Use controlled shots rather than spraying bullets to conserve ammunition.
- Reaching the far end of the area triggers the final cutscene for this segment.
This cutscene concludes Leon’s Wrenwood section and completes the Wrenwood chapter.
