In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it is possible to get many of the starter Pokemon from previous generations, and one of them is Froakie. However, it is not simply found in the wild. In this guide, we will go over all of the steps needed in order to get your own Froakie.
1. How Early Can You Get Froakie?
Froakie can be obtained fairly early in the game. You can essentially get it as soon as you complete your first side quests that are required for the story.
- You will need to complete Main Mission 5: The City in the Shadow of Prism Tower.
- This will involve doing 3 side quests that Emma gives
- Once completed, more side quests will open up, including the one required for Froakie
2. Where Do You Find Froakie?
Once available, you will simply need to do a side quest, and you will get Froakie automatically. It’s a fairly straightforward quest that requires some platforming.
- Head to the side quest marker that’s a little bit northwest from the Jaune Pokemon Center on the right side of the map
- Once there, talk to an NPC named Surv, a construction worker
- He will give you the side quest A Challenge from Froakie — completing this will give you Froakie
- Once unlocked, the side quest will never disappear until you do it
- A look at where the Froakie quest is started
- This is who you want to talk to to get Froakie
3. How to Complete A Challenge from Froakie
This is a straightforward quest, but you are under a time limit — you need to climb various scaffolding obstacles to reach Froakie before the timer runs out.
Quest Steps:
- Begin the Trial: Talk to Surv when you’re ready to begin the trial
- Three Different Trials: There are three separate trials, and each one is in a different location — track the quest so the map will show you where the next course is
- Watch Your Step: The first two trials are easy — just watch your step on planks and you’ll have plenty of time
- Final Course: The final course has a couple of gaps that you will have to dodge roll in order to get across
- Practice if Needed: You can practice the courses before talking to Surv to make sure you will get through it quickly enough
4. How to Catch Froakie Up Quickly
Froakie will only be level 5 once you obtain it, so you will need to catch it up if you want it in your party. Luckily, this can be accomplished fairly easily, especially if you get it as soon as possible.
- You can give it EXP Candies that are in your inventory to catch it up quickly
- If you don’t have enough, you put it in your party and have your other Pokemon battle — this way it can take advantage of the EXP share until its level is high enough
Once you complete the quest and catch it up, your Froakie will be ready to become a powerful member in your team. It will eventually become Greninja, and learn its signature move Water Shuriken.
