Recommendations
Jenos is a powerful healer, but he can be played in two forms: a primary healer and a battle medic.
Playing Jenos as a primary healer requires a loadout and a talent that pushes his already powerful abilities to the next level. In this case, the best Talent for the scenario is Celestial Touch.
Celestial Touch allows you to heal your allies more than you already do, with a base increase of 10% of your targets maximum health extra being healed. This, in combination with the loadout below, will allow you to pull ahead. Before you know it, you'll be getting over 100k healing in no time.
This loadout allows you to not only heal more but also heal more often and from a further range, allowing you to stay further away from the dangers of combat. On top of that, it also allows you to heal yourself if you need it, and keep you alive as you're escaping with Stellar Wind.
In order to best play this loadout, there are some important tips that you have to follow. The most important thing is to be careful, and fully aware of your surroundings. Knowing when to trigger Stellar Wind or when to use Void Grip on an approaching enemy can be the difference between life and death. Aside from that, it is vital to always have at least one Astral Mark active on someone. This should be easy, considering the Astral Mark can be active on multiple characters at the same time. If your Astral Mark isn't on cooldown, it should be. The ability not only heals your allies but also heals you. Even if your allies don't immediately need healing, as long as the mark is on them, they will be healed if they take damage.
The other primary way that Jenos can be played is essentially the exact opposite of the primary healer playstyle. The battle medic playstyle has Jenos much closer to his allies, using different loadouts and a different Talent. In this case, The Power Cosmeum is the better option for a battle medic Talent.
This allows you to prevent enemies from escaping your grab, and in combination with the
loadout below this will allow you to demolish your enemies on the battlefield.
This loadout, in combination with The Power Cosmeum, allows you to grab people almost constantly. As long as you have careful coordination with your team, you can use this to shut down any of your enemies. As with the primary healer playstyle, you must be very in-tune with your surroundings, knowing who to grab and when can turn the tides of a fight, and if things begin to go south you can escape with Stellar Wind, using Cosmic Barrier's 10% damage reduction to keep you going for just a little bit longer.
Remember, these Talents and loadouts aren't set in stone. If you find a certain system works better for you, make sure to change it to fit your personal style the best. Once you've figured out your best Talent and loadout, it's time to look at the Item Shop.
For Jenos, one thing is consistent across almost every playstyle, and that's the priority of Chronos from the Utility tab. In most cases, it is advantageous to purchase not just one, but all three tiers of Chronos before considering your next purchases. If you've bought up to Tier 2 or 3 of Chronos, your next best purchase would be Haven, from the Defense tab. Your lowest priority purchases should be Kill to Heal from the Healing tab, and then a situational purchase from the Offense tab. Kill to Heal is useful because it is linked to Eliminations, rather than Kills. The Offense tab is probably the most useless section to purchase from, but if you have no other options, Cauterize, Wrecker, and Deft Hands will be your best bets. Cauterize is useful if the team has a powerful healer and/or multiple healers, Wrecker is good to combat enemies with heavy shielding skills, such as Makoa or Torvald, and lastly, Deft Hands is a purchase for when all other options aren't worthwhile.
LAst Minute Tips
Corners are your best friend
- Corners will be the difference between a successful escape and utter failure. This may require some practice, but using Stellar Wind and hugging corners is one of the best strategies for escaping oncoming opponents.
Use Through Time and Space as a combo move
- Through Time and Space, Jenos's ultimate ability is powerful because it pierces through all enemies and obstacles, dealing a blanket 2400 to all enemies stuck in the attack. Despite this, the ability itself is slow acting and is very obvious, with the path of the shot clearly defined to all players. Despite this, the ability can be used in combination with abilities like Seris's Convergence or Khan's Overpower to force enemies into one location and finishing them all off.
Void Grip isn't a total immobilizer
- Jenos players need to be careful when using Void Grip. Not only can players escape the grip by using a movement ability, but they can still shoot or use abilities for the duration. This means you have to be careful, and aware of your enemy's actions before lifting them.
Lastly, remember to have fun! You don't have to play Jenos if you're not comfortable as him, there are still plenty of other characters to choose from. Check out our other character guides if you're interested in learning about new characters.
