Nioh 3 – How to Get and Use Glory

Glory in Nioh 3 is a special online currency tied to co‑operative play, multiplayer interactions, and the clan system. Unlike gold (which you spend at merchants) or Amrita (used to level up), Glory doesn’t boost stats directly but unlocks rewards, contributes to clan competition, and fuels progression in areas that solo players might initially overlook.

1. How to Unlock Glory

Hidden Teahouse NPC

Glory becomes usable only after you unlock the Hidden Teahouse, which happens once you complete the Warring States era and progress into the Heian region. At that point, the NPC Matsunaga Hisahide appears and allows you to interact with clans, spend Glory in his shop, and participate in Clan Battles.

Until the Hidden Teahouse unlocks, Glory accumulates in the background but has no menu for spending or consequences. You begin earning small amounts of Glory as soon as you encounter Revenants and online missions.

2. All Methods to Earn Glory

Glory is fundamentally earned through online and multiplayer‑related activities. These are the primary ways the game tracks your contributions.

2.1 Defeating Revenants (Bloody Graves)

Bloody Graves Revenants

Revenants are ghostly combatants left behind when other players die. They appear at Bloody Graves, marked with red swords, scattered throughout missions. Approach a red sword marker to summon a Revenant. Defeating the Revenant grants Glory, along with items and sometimes Ochoko Cups.

All Revenants — even offline ones — reward some Glory, and fighting a difficult or high‑level Revenant gives you more Glory. Fighting Revenants remains one of the most consistent solo sources of Glory, especially while you’re still unlocking online content.

2.2 Co‑Op Play 

Co‑op play is one of the fastest and most consistent ways to earn Glory because it rewards both activity and support in online missions. There are multiple methods to do Co-op and summons using Benevolent Graves. There are two main systems:

Visitor Mode

Visitor mode lets you enter another player’s world or have other players enter yours. It revolves around Ochoko Cups and is essential for active Glory farming. You can get Ochoko Cups from Revenants, chests, and by buying from the Hidden Teahouse. 

How to Use Visitor Mode

At a shrine, select Summon Visitor (with an Ochoko Cup) to invite other players into your world. Alternatively, you can choose “Become a Visitor” to join someone else’s mission. Use your Ochoko Cup to enter their world. You earn Glory for helping complete missions, especially for defeating enemies and bosses.

Expedition Mode

Expeditions are predefined co-op missions where multiple players join together from the start. These missions can be played with friends or random online players.

How to Use Expedition Mode

Open the Co‑Op menu at a shrine. Select Expedition → Join or Host. You can host to let visitors join your game, or join another player’s expedition. Expeditions are designed to include multiple objectives (defeat all enemies, kill bosses, collect loot). Every mission completion rewards Glory, which is higher than standard visitor mode because it involves teamwork from start to finish.

Righteous Jasper (Benevolent Graves)

Righteous Jasper is a key multiplayer item used to place Acolyte Graves (also called Benevolent Graves) — blue graves that other players can use to summon your AI helper into their missions. You earn Glory when other players use your placed grave. The more graves used, the more Glory you receive — even if you’re not actively playing with those players at the time.

How to Get Righteous Jasper

You can find Righteous Jasper as loot from missions (chests, enemy drops), as a reward for assisting other players or completing co‑op missions, or from your own graves being used by others. Another method is to straight purchase from the Sudama merchant in Hamamatsu Castle Town for 700 gold. 

How to place Benevolent Graves

1. Make sure you are online.
2. Use Righteous Jasper in a mission to create a blue grave marker.
3. Position it in a high‑traffic section (near shrines or before boss battles).

Each use by another player nets you Glory. Each placed grave remains in the world until used, and you can have multiple active at once.

2.3 Donating Items to Your Clan

Once you join a clan at the Hidden Teahouse, you can donate gear and items from your inventory to earn Glory. Here’s how to use the donation menu with the Hidden Teahouse NPC:

1. Open the Clan menu at the Hidden Teahouse and choose Donate.
2. Select the weapons, items, or armor you want to donate and confirm. A menu will appear; confirm it.

The Glory you receive depends on the rarity and quality of the donated items (gear, weapons), making this useful if you have extra high‑tier gear. This provides a way to convert excess or unwanted gear into meaningful Glory, especially if you have rare or high‑tier equipment.

2.4 How to Join Clans

Eternal Rift hub

Advance through the early game until you complete the Warring States era and reach the Heian region — after defeating Takeda Shingen. Once this story milestone is reached, the game will automatically introduce the Hidden Teahouse in the Eternal Rift as a new hub location.

1. Fast travel to the Eternal Rift hub area from your world map.
2. Look for the Hidden Teahouse building — it’s near the Blacksmith and other vendors in the hub.
3. Approach and talk to the NPC inside — Matsunaga Hisahide, who runs the teahouse
4. Choose the “Clan” option to proceed. You’ll be presented with a list of clans you can join. Each clan provides a different Clan Protection buff (e.g., increased damage, reduced damage taken) — choose one that fits your playstyle or goals.

You will start contributing Glory you earn (from co-op, revenants, and other sources) to this clan’s total in the next Clan Battle cycle.

How to Change Clans

Approach Matsunaga Hisahide and press the interact button. When the menu appears, select the option labeled “Transfer” — it’s the entry that deals with Clan Battles and allegiance. You’ll be presented with a list of available clans with their respective Clan Protection buffs. Select the Clan that can help your current build with the Clan buffs and join it. 

NOTE: There is a cooldown period while changing a clan; you will need to wait 8 hours after you switch your clan for reswitch. 

2.5 Clan Battles 

Clan Battles are periodic online competitive events where players contribute Glory on behalf of their chosen clan. Instead of direct PvP combat, Clan Battles focus on collective effort, rewarding active participation in missions and combat throughout the event period.

After joining a clan at the Hidden Teahouse, clans are automatically divided into opposing camps (commonly represented as Red vs. White). Over a fixed duration, every member’s earned Glory is added to their clan’s total score. The clan that accumulates the highest total Glory by the end of the event is declared the winner.

How Clan Battles Work

• Glory earned from missions, defeating enemies, and completing activities during the event is automatically contributed to your clan.
• There is no direct PvP combat — performance is measured purely by total Glory contribution.
• Clan rankings update dynamically throughout the battle period, allowing you to track progress in real time.

Rewards and Progression

• You keep all earned Glory, regardless of whether your clan wins or loses.
• Your personal clan rank can still increase even if your side loses the battle.
• Higher personal rank strengthens your Clan Protection passive bonuses, such as increased damage, defense, or other combat boosts, depending on the clan.

Personal Rank and Passive Buffs

As you earn Glory, your personal rank within the clan increases. Higher rank increases Clan Protection passive buffs (such as increased damage or reduced damage taken), which are beneficial in both solo and co‑op. These perks stack as you contribute more Glory over multiple Clan Battles.

3. How to Use Glory in Nioh 3

Hidden Teahouse shop

Once you unlock the Hidden Teahouse in the Eternal Rift (after progressing the main story), you can spend Glory on a variety of valuable items and features that improve gameplay, customization, and online utility.

3.1 Rare Gear and Materials

This category covers consumables, crafting materials, and utility items that help you survive missions, strengthen your build, or improve efficiency while exploring. These trades use Glory as the currency instead of gold or Amrita. You can buy items like Shingiku Medicine (healing item), Amulet of Camaraderie (revives allies in expeditions), etc., to help you in missions. 

3.2 Masterpieces

Masterpieces are a special form of randomized gear roll — essentially a loot box for weapons and armor. You spend Glory to draw Masterpiece items, which can yield higher rarity equipment (Uncommon, Rare, or Exotic) that may outperform standard drops.

How to Roll Masterpieces

1. Navigate to the Masterpieces tab in the Hidden Teahouse’s Trade menu.
2. Spend Glory to roll a weapon or armor piece for a specific slot (e.g., sword, bow, torso armor).
3. Each roll costs a set amount of Glory (many Masterpiece options are around a mid‑tier cost).
4. You can also use Valor Records (earned from online co‑op) to increase your chance of getting higher‑tier results.

3.3 Character Skins (Transforms)

These are cosmetic transformations that change how your character looks in‑game while retaining their original stats and gear. Skins allow you to visually emulate bosses and NPCs in the game. You can purchase skins by:

1. In the Hidden Teahouse’s Trade menu, go to the Skins tab.
2. Spend Glory to purchase a skin you like.
3. Once bought, these appear in your appearance options (e.g., via the mirror in Eternal Rift).

3.4 Gestures and Emotes

Gestures are non‑verbal actions your character can perform (e.g., waving, posing, specific commemorative emotes). These are often used in co‑op to communicate or express style and can be purchased at Teahouse NPC:

1. In the Hidden Teahouse Trade menu, select the Gestures category.
2. Spend Glory to unlock new gestures.
3. Once purchased, gestures can be used in‑game via the emote menu.

4. Tips for Maximizing Glory Gains

• Farm Revenants Efficiently: Seeking out Bloody Graves in areas with multiple Revenants yields steady Glory rewards.
• Use Righteous Jasper Wisely: Place Acolyte Graves in areas where other players struggle most (near minibosses or popular missions) to increase the chance they’ll be used.
• Donate Excess Items: Regularly donate high‑value gear to your clan — it nets reliable Glory quickly compared to solo play.
• Track Clan Battle Cycles: Participate by donating consistently over the battle period to maximize both personal rank and clan performance rewards.
