Marvel's Spider-Man 2: All Marko's Memories Locations | Grains of Sand Guide

Sandman is the first villain you fight in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and it’s very clear that something is up with Spidey’s most sedimentary adversary. He’s, somehow, seemingly lost in mind, resulting in his rampage at the start of the game and it’s up to Peter and Miles to restore his state of mind. The only way of accomplishing this task is to find and retrieve crystalised pieces of Flint Marko’s Memory which are scattered across New York City and are being fiercely defended by Sandman’s army of clones. These memories are hidden high and low, in alleyways and on rooftops, and they can be kind of tricky to track down.

Manage to find all of Marko’s Memories and you’ll earn yourself a boatload of City Tokens for your suits and gadgets, a ton of XP in the early game, the Grains of Sand trophy and, most importantly, a nice conclusion to the Sandman’s story in Spider-Man 2. As such, you should try and find all 14 memories as soon as you can.

Here’s where you can find all 14 of Marko’s Memory fragments in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

What Are Marko’s Memory Collectibles?

Marko’s Memories in Spider-Man 2 is a special kind of collectable that you’ll find scattered across some of New York’s various districts. Flint Marko (aka the Sandman) is the first villain you encounter in the game’s prologue and, after a wild sequence where Peter and Miles team up to take down his gargantuan sand form, he gets taken into custody. However, he appears completely unresponsive and almost comatose.

During the initial series of tutorial missions, Miles stumbles across a strange orange crystal while helping out those around the Financial District. This crystal is the first of many and is fiercely defended by a group of Sandman’s sand clones. After defeating them, Miles finds a crystallised chunk of Marko’s Memory which may hold the key to finding out why he went berserk after being passive for so many years.

Sandman's Secret

Sandman’s Secret

As such, under the direction of MJ, you’re asked to find the other pieces of Marko’s fractured psyche so that you may unveil the truth of what really happened to the Sandman. In total, there are 14 of Marko’s Memories hidden around New York. Each Memory you retrieve will award you 400 XP and 5 City Tokens, both of which are very useful for levelling up quickly and acquiring new gadgets and suits, meaning that this is definitely something worth undertaking.

Despite there being 14 Memories and 14 districts in New York City, there isn’t a one Memory per district rule: some districts have absolutely no memories whereas others have up to 4 of Marko’s Memories buried somewhere within. The areas teeming with recollection were those close to or directly in the path of Sandman’s destruction during Spider-Man 2’s opening mission and you’ll be able to spot the memories from a distance away by looking for large sand clouds which blow into the air.

So, now that we know what Marko’s Memories are and why we need to find them, where can you find all 14 memories in Spider-Man 2

All Marko Memory Locations in Spider-Man 2

Financial District Marko’s Memories Locations

The first area we’ll be exploring is the Financial District, the main target of Sandman’s rampage in the opening hour of Spider-Man 2. In total, there are 4 of Marko’s Memories hidden around this location. Still, you’ll only be able to find 3 Memories because you already have one unlocked: this is because the tutorial Memory you picked us as Miles in the One Thing At A Time mission is located in the Financial District and counts towards your total automatically.

As for the first free-roam Memory you can find, you will want to head to the Eastern side of the Financial District near the waterfront. Follow the road here south along the water and keep an eye on the tall skyscrapers bordering the edge of the street. After a short while, you should notice that one of the skyscrapers is billowing a large cloud of sand from its top, a sure sign that one of Marko’s Memories is close at hand. From there, zip on up, confront the Sandman clones which linger on the premise and break open your first (technically second) Marko Memory.

The second Financial District Sandman Memory is actually really close to the first one. From the skyscraper you visited for the first Memory, continue heading south until you quickly reach the park at the island’s southernmost point. You’ll find the crystal close to the water fountain and, after bashing some sandy goons, you can claim the next Marko Memory for yourself.

Lastly, the final one of Marko’s Memories in the Financial District is in the district’s northern end. If you’re following the guide in order, there’s a central main street which will take you directly from the Financial District’s southern end to its north so swing on down that road until you reach the border with Greenwich.

The crystal itself is on the ground, locked into an alley which intersects three separate buildings. It may be a bit difficult to see the sand cloud from this crystal due to how low to the ground it is, but just keep your eyes peeled, stay high in the air and the sand should make itself obvious enough.

Greenwich Marko’s Memories

The next New York district on our journey is Greenwich, which is to the northwest of the Financial District. There’s only a single Marko Memory in the Greenwich district.

To reach it, head to the western side of Greenwich and move until you’re roughly halfway between the Financial District (which is to the south) and Hell’s Kitchen (which is to the north). After some searching around the flats and residential buildings, you should notice the telltale sand cloud erupting from a basketball court on the ground. Once you’re there, run laps around the sand monsters, break the crystal and reclaim another memory for Flint Marko.

Chinatown Marko’s Memories Locations

After Greenwich is Chinatown, which is one of Manhatten’s most eastern districts and is right next to both Greenwich and the Financial District. In total, Chinatown is hiding 2 of Marko’s Memories.

For the first one, head to where the Financial District borders with Chinatown in the southwestern part of the district. This area is still covered in sand and debris from your fight with Sandman and, if you take a look around, you should spy the sand cloud spurting out from the ground between some inconspicuous lowrises.

As for where you can find Chinatown’s second Marko Memory, you’ll be heading much deeper into the district’s centre. Swing around the northern end of this area and, eventually, you should notice the billowing sand cloud coming from the roof of a nearby building.

Midtown Marko’s Memories Locations

Next on our list is Midtown, the most central Manhattan district in New York City. Following in the footsteps of Chinatown, Midtown has a total of 2 Marko Memories for you to find and collect.

For the first of Marko’s Memories in Midtown, linger around the southern part of the district and start heading to the east. Keep an eye out for the massive ColeXCo building because, once you spot it, you can use it as a guide point for the next crystal, which is on the roof of the building sitting parallel to the megacorp skyscraper.

Meanwhile, the second Midtown Marko Memory is in the southwest part of town, close to where Midtown borders Hell’s Kitchen. Similar to several of Marko’s other memories, you can find this sand crystal smushed between two buildings in a sandy alleyway. Swing on down, beat the sandy thugs to a pulp and then claim the crystal to pick up the next one of Marko’s Memories.

Central Park Marko’s Memories Locations

After Midtown is the world-famous Central Park. There’s only one Marko Memory you need to be on the lookout for in Central Park as you swing through the trees and admire the scenery.

To reach this one, head to the southeast corner of the park and look around for a small lake which borders the Upper East Side district. On the bank of this little lake will be the next sand crystal, marked by the familiar sight of a billowing sand cloud.

Little Odessa Marko’s Memories Locations

Leaving Manhatten, we have the first Marko Memory in Little Odessa, a district in the Brooklyn region. Fortunately for us, there’s only a single Marko Memory in Little Odessa, making searching for it a relatively easy job.

To find this memory, head to the northern part of Little Odessa near the waterfront. Close to the area where the bridge connects Little Odessa to Downtown Queens are a good deal of industrial buildings and, as luck would have it, our next sand crystal is at the top of one of these buildings: to be more specific, it’s on the roof of the Loaves and Wishes Bakery. The best way to spot this memory (aside from the sand, of course) is to look for the large metal cylinders on the building’s roof which make it a dead giveaway at a distance.

Williamsburg Marko’s Memories Locations

South of Little Odessa is the next Brooklyn district, Williamsburg. In an unsurprising turn of events, Williamsburg only has one Marko Memory to its name

For this penultimate open-world memory, head to the western waterfront by the river in the northern part of Williamsburg. Similar to the location in Little Odessa, you’ll be on the lookout for a large industrial building with a tall chimney which will have the next Marko Memory waiting on the roof.

Downtown Brooklyn Marko’s Memories Locations

The final Marko Memory you can freely collect in Spider-Man 2 is in Downtown Brooklyn. To save time, try and save this one for last, as the quest revolving around Sandman’s memories will continue from this district after you’ve found 13 of the memories total.

As for where to look for this memory, you’ll find it in the middle of Downtown Brooklyn. This is another grounded memory stuck in an alley between two tall buildings, which results in the sand cloud being significantly more difficult to spot at a distance. Just keep swinging around this general area (which happens to be right next to a circular water fountain that you can use as a guide point) and you should stumble across it sooner or later.

Final Piece of Marko’s Memory in Spider-Man 2

Once you’ve found all 13 of Marko’s Memories from around the map, Peter or Miles will note that there should only be one left and that you should check out where Sandman started going crazy to see if there are any clues left over. As it so happens, something is waiting for you in Downtown Brooklyn, the final crystal hiding the last piece of Flint Marko’s memory.

This one’s a bit different from the others, though. When you first approach it… nothing happens. No sand goons are waiting in ambush, letting you waltz on up and claim it for yourself. However, upon touching the crystal, you’ll be transported inside Marko’s memories and into a void full of strange, massive Sandman statues.

After parkouring and zipping your way past multiple Sandman behemoths, you’ll come face to face with one giant sand crystal. Unlike the others, you can’t just waltz up and take this one, with its massive size requiring some blunt force trauma to break it open. Of course, the mini-Markos won’t be leaving you alone during this period and they will continually spawn as you try and throw stuff at the crystal. These enemies never stop spawning so your priority should be just throwing objects instead of trying to defeat the enemies.

Eventually, you’ll shatter the final crystal, claim the last piece of Marko’s Memory and return to reality. With all 14 memory fragments in hand, you’ll be able to complete the Sandman mini-quest chain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Remember Side Quest in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

As soon as you get the 14th memory, MJ will contact your respective Spider-Man and tell them that Marko has begun spouting an address in Queens repeatedly. This will cause a new Side Story titled Remember to pop up in the Astoria district of Queens.

Heading to the designated location will take you to an insignificant little house in the middle of Queens, one where Marko’s daughter now lives. The Remember quest is super short and rewards you with 20 City Tokens and 2000 XP at the end.

As for the Marko Memory Shards themselves, you can go and check them in the Collections tab to learn that they actually create a heartwarming statue of Marko and his daughter. This is the statue that Spider-Man delivers at the end of the Remember quest and you can check it, and any of Marko’s individual memory chunks, any time by visiting Collections.
