Schemas are one of the most valuable items you can obtain in Marathon. These rare items act like blueprints that allow you to access specific weapons or gear through the Armory, even if they are not normally available through vendors or faction shops.
Because good equipment is difficult to maintain in an extraction shooter, Schemas provide a reliable way to restock powerful weapons and experiment with new loadouts.
1. What Are Schemas in Marathon?
Schemas are special items that unlock the ability to purchase a specific weapon or piece of gear from the Armory for a limited number of uses. Each Schema is tied to a particular item. For example, a Magnum MC Schema allows you to obtain that pistol through the Armory once the Schema is activated.
Unlike normal loot, Schemas don’t immediately give you the weapon. Instead, they unlock a purchase option that lets you obtain that item several times. Key characteristics of Schemas include:
- They unlock specific weapons or equipment in the Armory
- Most Schemas have limited uses (for example, three or five purchases)
- They must be extracted from a run if found in the field
- Some higher-tier Schemas may provide permanent unlocks
2. How to Get Schemas in Marathon
There are several ways to obtain Schemas during Season 1. Some methods are more reliable than others, so knowing where to look can save you time.
2.1. Loot Schemas During Runs
The most common way to get Schemas is by finding them while exploring maps during a run.
Schemas can appear in various loot containers around the map:
- Weapon bins
- Tool carts
- Arm lockers
- Data ports
- Secured lockers
They can also appear inside supply drops, which frequently contain high-tier loot. Supply drops are risky because they make loud noises and attract other players and NPC enemies. However, they are one of the most consistent ways to find valuable Schemas.
Tip: If you find a Schema during a run, you must successfully extract with it. If you die before extraction, the Schema is lost along with your other loot.
2.2. Unlock Schemas From the Rewards Pass
Another reliable way to obtain Schemas is through the Season 1 rewards pass.
The battle pass contains multiple Schema rewards that can be unlocked using Silk, the progression currency earned from playing the game. You can get these weapon Schemas from the Reward Pass pages:
- Magnum Schema – Page 1
- Retaliator LMG Schema – Page 1
- BRRT SMG Schema – Page 2
- Impact HAR Schema – Page 3
- Copperhead RF Schema – Page 4
- V85 Circuit Breaker Schema – Page 4
- V00 Zeus RG Schema – Page 5
- V99 Channel Rifle Schema – Page 5
Once you claim a Schema from the pass, it activates immediately and becomes available in the Armory.
2.3. Complete Faction Contracts
Faction progression is another potential source of Schemas. By completing contracts for different factions, you increase your reputation and unlock new rewards. Some of these reputation tiers grant access to weapon Schemas. Contracts are particularly useful for obtaining early-game weapon Schemas, which can help build your inventory faster.
3. How to Use Schemas in Marathon
Using a Schema is simple once it has been activated. If you found the Schema during a run, you must first successfully exfiltrate with it. Once you return to the hub, the Schema automatically unlocks in your Armory. Next, go to the Armory section of the Loadout menu.
All the associated weapons and gear with your Schemas will appear in the Armory shop. The item will appear in the shop interface, in the right sections next to:
- Sponsored gear
- Armory stock
- Vendor inventory
Once the Schema is active, you can purchase the unlocked weapon or gear. However, most Schemas have a limited number of uses. Common Schema Limits are:
- 3 purchases
- 5 purchases
- Limited seasonal stock
After you buy the item the allowed number of times, the Schema disappears from the Armory.
4. Tips for Using Schemas Effectively
- Always extract with a Schema: if you find one during a run. If you die before extracting, the Schema is lost permanently along with the rest of your loot.
- Prioritize high-rarity Schemas: Blue, purple, and gold Schemas usually unlock stronger weapons or gear, making them far more valuable than common early-game items.
- Check supply drops during runs: These drops often contain multiple high-tier loot crates and are one of the most reliable ways to obtain Schemas.
- Spend your Schema uses carefully: Most Schemas only allow a limited number of purchases (such as three or five), and once the stock runs out, the Schema disappears from your Armory.
- Use Schemas to rebuild lost gear quickly: If you lose a strong weapon during a run, a Schema lets you buy the same item again from the Armory without relying on random loot.
- Save rare Schemas for important runs: Instead of using them immediately, consider keeping them in the Armory until you need a powerful loadout for difficult missions or PvP encounters.
- Use Reward Pass Schemas: These Schemas let you try gear you might not normally find during runs without risking rare loot.
- Loot containers: Tool carts, weapon lockers, and other lootable containers sometimes contain Schemas, making them worth checking even in low-risk areas.
- Keep inventory space for Schemas: Even if you don’t plan to use them immediately, extracting with them can unlock powerful weapons later.
