Is PvP Optional or Forced in Dune: Awakening?
Dune: Awakening separates PvP and PvE gameplay using zone rules, Sub-Fief Console power mechanics, and player-controlled Landsraad voting. While some parts of Arrakis allow open-world PvP and even full-loot death, it is entirely optional. You can explore, quest, craft, and build for hundreds of hours without engaging in PvP.
About 95% of the game is PvE-focused, and you can complete all main quests, faction contracts, and storylines without ever entering a PvP zone (except a few short visits to wrecks). This guide explains how PvP works, when it’s active, and how to avoid or survive it — depending on your goals.
1. Can You Play Without PvP?
Yes — you can play entirely PvE if you choose. Safe zones like the Hagga Basin and Row A of the Deep Desert are permanently PvE-only. You are never forced into combat with other players, and every main mission can be completed without entering a PvP zone.
- Hagga Basin: 100% protected PvE region for story, crafting, and contracts
- Row A (A3–A5): PvE tiles in the Deep Desert for solo outposts and farming
- Story Completion: All main and faction quests are completable in Tier 4 gear
- Confirmed Example: Players have finished full contracts and storylines after 150+ hours of solo PvE with no PvP encounters
2. When Is PvP Active?
PvP is always a choice. It becomes active only if you enter designated open-world PvP zones such as Rows B to E in the Deep Desert. Even then, PvP rules are modified by Landsraad votes that determine whether players will lose all loot on death or just equipped gear.
- Rows B–E: PvP-enabled zones with loot-on-death
- Landsraad System: Player factions vote for full-loot or partial-loot
- Sandworm Deaths: Always cause full inventory loss regardless of PvP settings
Most players don’t enter full PvP zones until very late. The Deep Desert is designed for high-risk, high-reward gameplay — not story progression.
3. Full Loot PvP Explained
Full-loot PvP is not the default setting. It only applies when enabled by a Landsraad vote. By default, death in PvP zones only drops equipped items. Full inventory loss happens only when full-loot is voted on by players and becomes active.
- Full-loot enabled: All gear, armor, and carried items are dropped
- Partial-loot: Only equipped weapons and armor are lost
- Sandworm deaths: Always result in total loot loss
You can safely store your loot in containers or return to Hagga Basin before logging out. Always check the PvP rule in effect before entering the Deep Desert.
4. What Triggers Base Raids?
Player bases are never raidable unless their Sub-Fief Console runs out of power. This triggers a decay timer, and only after that timer ends does the base become vulnerable to raid. Being in a PvP zone is not enough — power failure is required to make a base raidable.
- Sub-Fief Console offline: Starts decay timer
- Decay window: After timer ends, PvP raiding becomes possible
- Coriolis Storm: Wipes all Deep Desert bases every Tuesday regardless of power. See our Coriolis Storm Guide for more information
- Sandstorms: Bases lose the shield for 6 minutes after the sandstorm in the same area as your base
As long as your Sub-Fief Console is powered and online, your base is fully protected — even in PvP regions.
5. How to Avoid PvP in the Deep Desert
Solo players can use Row A tiles for safe base deployment, crafting, and spice farming. These tiles are PvE-only and exempt from PvP and raiding. However, all structures in the Deep Desert — even in Row A — will be wiped weekly by the Coriolis Storm.
- Use A3, A4, A5 for protected PvE survival bases
- Keep Sub-Fief Consoles powered and inside walls to avoid decay triggers
- Evacuate your base and store valuables in Hagga Basin before the storm resets
6. Can You Finish the Game Without PvP?
Yes — 100% of the story, all main quests, and faction progression can be completed in PvE zones using Tier 4 gear. There is no gameplay system or quest that forces you into PvP. You do not need Tier 6 weapons, titanium, or Deep Desert loot to finish any core content.
- Tier 6 gear is for PvP and guilds — not required for progression
- You can unlock every story outcome without touching a PvP zone (except wrecks)
- All kill contracts and missions can be completed in Hagga Basin
7. Is There Forced PvP in Dune: Awakening?
No. PvP is entirely optional. There is no forced PvP in any core system. It only occurs if you deliberately enter high-risk zones like Deep Desert Rows B–E or let your Sub-Fief base power go offline. There are no forced PvP quests, no surprise invasions, and no zone flipping. If you want to play 200 hours in PvE only, you can.
- No forced PvP in story, crafting, or building
- Safe PvE routes exist for Intel farming, contracts, and gathering
- 95% of the content is designed for solo PvE players
8. PvP Tips for Solo Players
If you plan to enter PvP zones, bring light gear and keep mobility as your top priority. You can extract rare loot and escape safely if you avoid player hotspots and keep your Sub-Fief Console powered. Many players report never being attacked even after dozens of solo Deep Desert runs

ANON
Did a dev write this? so many lies.
PVP is forced and the game is not completable without PVP. The largest map in the game is PVP, the highest resources are PVP, that is called COMLETING THE GAME!

Hello Anon, it depends on what is COMPLETING the game for you. To complete all the quests, you do not need the PvP. Deep Desert is just one part of the game and if you don’t like it and don’t need Tier 6 materials, you don’t need to go there. You can easily spend 200 hours just in Hagga Basin and have fun. And that is quite a lot, in my opinion.
Sure, Deep Desert is a big part of the end-game content but like in every other MMO, sand-box game, well, it’s always a pvp zerg gang fest. But as I said, you don’t need to go there…
