Crimson Desert is a new open-world action-adventure from Pearl Abyss. While it is a single-player experience, some might be wondering if there is a multiplayer mode you can unlock or will be coming later on.
1. Is Crimson Desert Multiplayer?
Currently, the answer is no. Crimson Desert is a single-player experience, but the developers have left room open to multiplayer stuff in the future. In the original statements made about the timeline, the developers stated that the planned development of multiplayer would come after the single player release.
- The developers stated that these will be two separate projects. Since development took six years, Pearl Abyss wanted to get the single-player game out first.
- Multiplayer will begin development after release in March 2026.
- The developers stated that it would be “similar to GTA‘s multiplayer mode” in its development.
- This suggests that the online multiplayer modes will be completely separate from the single player campaigns.

2. Does Crimson Desert Have Crossplay or Cross-saving?
Crimson Desert will not have crossplay or cross-saving across platforms. If you have your save on PS5, Xbox, or PC, it is unfortunately currently locked there. However, this is also something that may change in the future.
3. Crimson Desert Mods
While there is no official mod support at the moment for any version of Crimson Desert, there are several unofficial mods out there. Since these are unofficial, how well they work or if they are malware is uncertain.

4. Does Crimson Desert Have Microtransactions?
At the time of writing, Crimson Desert does not have microtransactions. The developers have mentioned that these could be added along with multiplayer, but there has been no information on whether these will be cosmetics or in-game useable items like armor or weapons. It appears that microtransactions will not be part of the single-player experience at all.
5. Is Online Required?
According to the Pearl Abyss website, online is not required. If you download Crimson Desert from a console store or on PC, you will have the patch to play offline automatically. If you purchased a physical copy of the game, you will need to download a 49GB day-one patch that turns on your ability to play offline.
