How to Use Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen | Boss Equipment and Gear Guide

A staple of many Souls-likes is the ability to claim the equipment of bosses for yourself and Lords of the Fallen follows this tradition beautifully with its Remembrance system. As the name suggests, many of the game’s important bosses will give you a unique item which allows you to acquire weapons, armour and spells based on the likeness or fighting style of the boss you just conquered. From holy swords and near impenetrable shields to spells which summon a font of lava or a barrage of divine arrows, Remembrance gear is some of the best in all of Lords of the Fallen, making them a highly desired part of any build.

However, knowing how to use Remembrances after you obtain one isn’t exactly spelt out to you. Paired with the fact that purchasing an item from a Remembrance requires a unique currency, many Lampbearers may be running around headless as they search for a way to redeem their well-earned goods. Well, fortunately, we’re here to remedy that.

Here’s everything you need to know about Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen including how to use them, a complete list of all boss Remembrances in the game and the best boss equipment you should purchase.

What Are Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen?

Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen are special mementoes that you will earn from defeating key bosses in your journey to cleanse the beacons of Mournstead. There are over 15 unique bosses in the game who will award you with a Remembrance, allowing you to purchase special items and equipment related to that boss.

While extremely important, it is actually possible to miss a Remembrance, even if you kill its associated boss. Once a Remembrance boss has been slain, you need to enter Umbral and interact with a special Umbral Stigma which spawns in the arena upon the boss’ defeat. This Stigma will usually give you a brief insight into how the boss became the way they were, awarding you with the related Remembrance at the memory’s conclusion.

Remembrances are very useful tools, allowing you to access some of the most powerful armour and weapon sets in the game. One Remembrance may give you access to the best Radiance scaling weapon in the game, whereas another will allow you to buy a ring which lets Radiant and Umbral Catalysts cast Inferno spells. The boss equipment you can obtain by using Remembrances is an absolute game changer and will, undoubtedly, be a part of many Lampbearer’s endgame builds.

So, now that you know what Remembrances are and how to get them, how do you actually use Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen?

How to Use Remembrances

After requiring a Remembrance, you need to visit a special NPC in Skyrest Bridge to use them. That NPC is the ever-quiet Molhu, the Umbral merchant who waits in Skyrest’s western wing. In order to see Molhu, you need to be in Umbral, otherwise, the room he occupies will just be full of moths.

Usually, Molhu is your main source of Umbral-related equipment and spells, as well as your method of upgrading the Umbral Lamp with additional sockets and abilities. However, he is also the way that you can purchase boss items using Remembrances. So long as you have a boss’ Remembrance, you can visit Molhu and select the Offer Remembrance tab. This will take you to a menu listing all the Remembrances you currently own, at which point you can select one and browse its related items. Remembrance items require a special kind of currency and there are a limited number of items per Remembrance, with some having more available options than others.

It is important to note that the Offer Remembrance option won’t be available as soon as you enter Skyrest Bridge. Even though you’ve already killed Pieta and obtained her Remembrance, Molhu won’t allow you to purchase any boss equipment until you have a second Remembrance in your inventory. For most players, this means battling, and defeating, the Congregation of Flesh in the Forsaken Fen. Once you have at least two Remembrances, Molhu will finally begin trading boss equipment with you.

Are Remembrances One Time Use?

Unlike in most Soulslikes, Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen aren’t single-use items. Instead of trading in your Remembrance for a single item, spell or gear piece, they will open up several new options that you can purchase at Molhu. They aren’t used up if you use the Remembrance to purchase a piece of boss equipment.

For example, upon killing Pieta’s corrupted form, you will gain the Remembrance of Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal. Afterwards, this can be taken to Molhu where you can browse several items available from Pieta’s Remembrance, including an entire set of armour based on her, her unique weapon and even a spell. So long as you have the currency required – which is known as Umbral Scouring – you can buy every single item in Pieta’s Remembrance. The same is, of course, true for every other Remembrance boss in Lords of the Fallen

Without needing to worry about trading your Remembrance for a single item – something you may not use or even like – you can freely experiment with the repertoire of different armour pieces, weapons and spells that the Remembrances provide. With so many cool options and different pieces of equipment to try out, there’s definitely at least one piece of Remembrance gear that perfectly complements your build.

How to Get More Umbral Scourings

The currency needed to purchase boss items from Remembrances is called Umbral Scouring. As the name suggests, this item comes (almost) exclusively from Umbral. Remembrance items vary in price, with some as cheap as 10 Scourings and others as expensive as 40 Scourings. Whatever you’re going to purchase, you’ll need a lot of this currency if you want to make a dent in Molhu’s collection.

There are three main ways of getting Umbral Scourings. The first, and primary, way of getting them is by interacting and siphoning Umbral Stigmas. Stigmas are echoes of time left in the Umbral realm that you can reawaken with your Umbral Lamp, allowing you to experience the captured memory for yourself. Umbral Stigmas can be found all across Mournstead and every Stigma you interact with (including the boss Stigmas which give you the Remembrances) will award you 2 Umbral Scourings.

The second method relates to the bosses themselves. Beating a Remembrance boss will directly award you with 8 Umbral Scourings, a significant amount which should allow you to purchase at least something from most Remembrances you earn. This is where you’ll be getting your large injections of Scourings from, with Stigmas awarding a much smaller amount at a more regular cadence.

Finally, if you have any leftover Vigor, you can spend it at Molhu. He will have 3 Umbral Scourings for sale at 1000 Vigour each. This amount is limited, though, and won’t restock, making it a one-time purchase option. Even though it’s a small amount, 3 Scourings can help inch you towards a bigger goal, especially when bosses award you with 8 Scourings when the most significant items cost 10 Scourings.

All Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen (SPOILERS)

In this final section, we’ll recap and showcase all of the available Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen. As such, this section will cover every major boss in the game, meaning that there are going to be big spoilers ahead.

With that out of the way, here are all of the Remembrances in Lords of the Fallen.

Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal

  • Pieta’s Sword
  • Pieta’s Sleeves
  • Pieta’s Armour
  • Pieta’s Helm
  • Pieta’s Leggings
  • Blessed Reflections (Radiance Spell)

Pieta is the first boss you’ll encounter in Lords of the Fallen and her Remembrance gives you access to some of the best Radiance build options in the entire game. Firstly, it allows you to get Pieta’s Sword, a pure Radiance scaling weapon which allows casters to go all in on Radiance without needing to give up on melee. It functions like a rapier and is incredibly strong from start to finish. It does cost a hefty sum of 40 Scourings and you’ll need 20 Radiance at base to wield it but, if you plan on using Radiance as the cornerstone of your LotF build, Pieta’s Sword is an easy must-have option.

The other major thing Pieta’s Radiance gives you is the Blessed Reflections spell. At only 10 Scourings, this Radiance spell is very expensive to cast, costing an eye-watering 99 Mana with a 30 Radiance requirement. What you get for that expense, though, is easily one of the strongest Radiance spells in the game as you spawn two divine clones of Pieta to attack nearby targets. These clones can either do a strong melee attack or a beam ranged attack, making this a spell suitable for all situations. Blessed Reflection is superb for boss fights and tougher elite foes and is a spell well deserving of a place in your Catalyst.

The Congregator of Flesh

  • Flesh Tide (Umbral Spell)
  • Saint Latimer’s Relic Spear

With one of the slimmer Remembrance options in the game, the Congregator of Flesh’s Remembrance only has two things to choose from. The first choice is Saint Latimer’s Relic Spear, a weapon which, despite its 13 Radiance requirement, deals significant Wither damage alongside Physical. As you’ll soon see with the Hushed Saint’s Remembrance, a lot of Saint Latimer’s equipment greatly benefits a poison-focused Umbral build, with this Spear being a good option for any player wanting some slightly longer range while retaining the ability to deal good Wither damage.

The other choice for the Congregator Remembrance is the Flesh Tide spell. This Umbral spell requires you to have 22 Radiance and 22 Inferno in order to cast, costing 39 Mana peruse. A spell befitting the Congregator, this spell causes a shower of bloody body parts and flesh to rain down on an area of your choosing, dealing damage to any creatures within. It’s a pretty cheap spell at only 10 Scourings and with Umbral having the most diverse playstyle of all magic types in Lords of the Fallen, this will certainly fit into some Umbral-focused builds, perhaps those with an additional layer of Bleed.

The Hushed Saint

  • Shield of the Hushed Saint
  • Hushed Saint’s Halberd
  • Hushed Saint’s Gauntlets
  • Hushed Saint’s Armour
  • Hushed Saint’s Trousers
  • Latimer’s Javelin (Umbral Spell)

Following on from the Congregator is the Remembrance from the first beacon guardian, Latimer, the Hushed Saint. Like Pieta, you can grab Latimer’s entire armour set (aside from their helmet) if you’re a fan of heavy armour but the real focal points will be Latimer’s weapons and unique spell. Starting with the former, the Hushed Remembrance has both the Shield of the Hushed Saint and the Hushed Saint’s Halberd, combining to make a devastating defensive combo. You will need to invest in a lot of different stats to wield both tools, though, with the Shield needing 25 Strength and 8 Radiance and Inferno, whereas the Halberd needs 19 Strength and 16 Agility.

Unquestionably, though, the star of the Hushed Saint’s Remembrance is Latimer’s Javelin. This Umbral spell replicates the ranged attack that Latimer will perform during your fight, giving you a very long-ranged option with a wide damage radius. To add it to your Umbral Catalyst, you will need 18 Inferno and 18 Radiance which, if you’re running an Umbral build, shouldn’t be too hard to hit. While it won’t be needed in every fight, the Javelin is a superb spell for boss encounters and for weakening tough foes from a distance.

Spurned Progeny

  • Magma Surge (Inferno Spell)
  • Charred Root (Ring)

The Spurned Progeny is up next, with this Remembrance being an important part of Inferno-based builds or playstyles. Starting with the spell, Magma Surge is an extremely powerful Inferno spell which costs only 10 Umbral Scourings. While it is quite costly in terms of mana and stat investment, requiring 66 Mana per cast and a total of 30 Inferno, it is undoubtedly one of the best Inferno spells in the game. When cast, this spell creates an explosive surge of lava at a chosen location, leaving a pool of lava which deals damage over time to any enemy standing in it. The initial blast does incredible damage with a gigantic amount of range, easily capable of taking out low and mid-tier foes in a single hit.

Meanwhile, the other option available for purchase from the Spurned Progeny Remembrance is the Charred Root ring. Similar to some other rings in Lords of the Fallen, Charred Root will, when equipped, allow you to cast Inferno sorceries with a Radiance or Umbral Catalyst. As we just described with Magma Surge, there are some incredibly useful Inferno spells that can fit into Radiant or Umbral builds and this ring will allow you to dip in and take advantage of them without needing to completely change your build or level up a new Catalyst.

The Hollow Crow

  • Dress of the Drowned
  • Mask of the Drowned
  • Grieving Gaze (Umbral Spell)

Next, we have the Hollow Crow who, admittedly, has one of the weaker Remembrance lineups in Lords of the Fallen. Both of the armour options – the Dress of the Drowned and the Mask of the Drowned – are pretty mediocre aside from providing some considerable Wither resistance for lightweight builds. As such, the main prize is the Grieving Gaze spell. This attack summons a ball of ice which rains down Frostbite shards in the surrounding area. While it does need an investment of 25 Inferno and Radiance to use, this spell makes an excellent addition to most Umbral builds, adding another status option to your toolbox.

Harrower Dervla, the Pledged Knight

  • Harrower Dervla’s Sword
  • Harrower Dervla’s Crossbow
  • Harrower Gauntlets
  • Harrower Armour
  • Harrower Helm
  • Harrower Leggings
  • Martyr’s Shackles
  • Martyrdom (Umbral Spell)
  • Barrage of Echoes (Umbral Spell)

In terms of armour options, Dervla’s is one of the best Wither-resistant sets in the game, providing significant Physical and Wither defence. Additionally, both of Dervla’s weapons are really strong options and ask you to be proficient in Strength and Agility, with the Sword, in particular, needing an investment of 29 in each stat. Of the two, Dervla’s Crossbow is going to be a superb pick for any player who prefers ranged combat, giving you a very strong ranged option which deals significant Wither damage alongside the ability to slot different elemental bolts.

The two Umbral spells you can purchase, Martyrdom and Barrage of Echoes, are both very viable ranged spells. The former will summon a giant Umbral nail from the ground in the user’s direction, damaging any enemies in the vicinity at the cost of 66 Mana and 22 Inferno and Radiance. Meanwhile, the latter launches a barrage of small Umbral orbs which detonate upon impact, dealing additional damage after the fact. This spell is slightly cheaper, only closing 39 mana per cast and an investment of 19 Radiance and Inferno. Martyrdom is likely the more useful spell of the two, giving Umbral casters a powerful ranged spell on par with Magma Surge.

Tancred, Master of Castigations

  • Tancred’s Shield
  • Tancred’s Mancatcher
  • Tancred’s Gauntlets
  • Tancred’s Armour
  • Tancred’s Helm
  • Tancred’s Leggings
  • Infernal Eruption (Inferno Spell)
  • Radiant Guardian (Radiant Spell)

The next Remembrance on our list is for Tancred, the cruel torturer of the Hallowed Sentinels, and his warped brother Reinhold. The items available for purchase from this Remembrance include a set of armour reminiscent of Tancred’s own set as well as his shield and Mancatcher, a special kind of Polearm with some deadly reach and the ability to deal both Holy and Wither damage.

Tancred’s best option here is his Radiance spell, Radiant Guardian. For Holy builds, Radiant Guardian is a low-cost spell which will summon a small orb of divine energy that attacks nearby foes. Compared to some other spells, Radiant Guardian isn’t as strong out the gate but it is an excellent backup option if you’re going up against tough opponents in melee. The holy guardian lasts for a decent length of time and deals enough meaningful damage to turn the tides against hordes of enemies or bosses. As such, while it won’t be the staple of your Radiant build, it certainly deserves a place as a way to ease your journey from A to B.

Judge Cleric, the Radiant Sentinel

  • Judge Cleric’s Radiant Sword
  • Judge Cleric’s Spear
  • Judge Cleric’s Corrupted Sword
  • Judge Cleric’s Gauntlets
  • Judge Cleric’s Armour
  • Judge Cleric’s Crown
  • Judge Cleric’s Leggings
  • Corrupted Cleric’s Wrappings
  • Corrupted Cleric’s Armour
  • Corrupted Cleric’s Crown
  • Corrupted Cleric’s Skirt
  • Briar Storm (Radiant Spell)
  • Corrupted Banner Javelin (Ranged Weapon)
  • Pyroclastic Stone (Inferno Spell)

With the largest amount of purchasable options, Judge Cleric’s Remembrance is easily the most packed and varied in the game. With options for both Radiance and Inferno builds as well as two powerful sets of armour, there’s bound to be something for most players to take away from this Remembrance. As a whole, though, this Remembrance best serves the spellcasters, specifically those geared towards the Holy side of the damage spectrum.

For Radiance builds, the best options are the Judge Cleric’s Spear and Judge Cleric’s Radiant Sword. The former is a mid-ranged melee option which lets you trigger Smite, whereas the latter is a super solid Long Sword with great Agility and Radiance scaling. Both weapons will require a good deal of Radiance and Agility investment to wield – with the Sword needing 18 Agility and 20 Radiance – but they’re well worth the effort. If you’re wondering why we aren’t recommending the Briar Storm spell, it’s simply too clunky to effectively use in most situations: you need to remain stationary to cast it over a prolonged period and, while it does cover a large area, the damage isn’t particularly high enough to justify picking it over other Holy spells.

The most interesting part of Judge Cleric’s inventory is also the more expensive in terms of investment. The Corrupted Sword is similar stat-wise to the Radiant Sword with one key difference: instead of just dealing Physical and Holy damage, it also deals Fire damage, allowing it to inflict three different damage types in a single weapon. Obviously, the cost for this is some very hefty stat restrictions, requiring 13 Strength, 13 Agility, 20 Radiance and 20 Inferno to even effectively use it. If you can pull it off, though, you’ll have one of the most versatile tools in the whole game, one which fits perfectly into Radiance, Inferno or Physical builds.

The Lightreaper

  • Right-hand Lightreaper Sword
  • Left-hand Lightreaper Sword
  • Right-hand Lightreaper Dagger
  • Left-hand Lightreaper Dagger
  • Lightreaper’s Spear
  • Lightreaper’s Shield
  • Lightreaper’s Helm
  • Lightreaper’s Armour
  • Lightreaper’s Gauntlets
  • Lightreaper’s Leggings
  • Severing Blades (Inferno Spell)

After spending the whole game running away from him, you can finally get your revenge on the Lightreaper and claim his Remembrance for yourself. The best options you can purchase from this Remembrance are definitely his weapon. If pure damage is your style, picking up both of the Lightrepaer Swords will give you two powerful Short Swords which have low stat investment (only requiring 13 Agility and Inferno) for a high payout, with each weapon dealing both Physical and Fire damage. For Inferno casters, this is honestly one of the best options to take into the endgame alongside your normal repertoire of Inferno spells.

However, you shouldn’t sell the Lightreaper Daggers short. Instead of prioritising high damage, the Lightreaper Daggers allow you to apply Burn to a target for a damage over time effect. If you want the best of both worlds, you can combine one Lightreaper Dagger and one Lightreaper Sword to create a strong dual-wielding Inferno build which deals high damage and can proc Burn at a super consistent rate. The low investment of both options allows you to easily pair them with pure caster builds with little fuss, creating a combo which will certainly take you past the hardest content in Lords of the Fallen

The Sundered Monarch

  • Queen’s Head Hammer
  • Heavy Memento
  • Melted Crown
  • Infernal Decree (Inferno Spell)

Finally, we have the Remembrance for the Sundered Monarch. The best items from this Remembrance are going to greatly impact Strength builds, particularly those built around guarding and blocking, with the Queen’s Head Hammer and Heavy Memento Shield being top-tier options.

Starting with the Hammer, this weapon does require investment into both Strength and Inferno to wield (26 of each stat altogether) but it comes out as one of the strongest Great Hammers in Lords of the Fallen. Capable of dealing high Physical and Fire damage simultaneously, this weapon is pure brute force, allowing you to confidently tussle with any kind of enemy in the game. In a similar vein, the Heavy Memento shield is similarly great as one of the best, if not the best, shields in the game. With incredibly high resistance to Fire damage (90%) and great defence against Physical, Holy and Wither, this is a shield you can confidently rely on… if you can stomach the 40 Strength cost it takes to wield it.

Ending Remembrances

In addition to all the ones listed above, there are two more Remembrances based on which boss you fight at the end of the game. The first alternative Remembrance is the Remembrance of Elianne the Starved. This is the final boss if you go down the path leading to the Umbral Ending and she is fought in the Mother’s Lull. Upon defeating her, soulflay her Umbral Stigma and you’ll gain her associated Remembrance.

Meanwhile, if you go through with the Radiance ending, which involves cleansing all of the beacons, you will fight Adyr, the Bereft Exile as the final boss. Upon killing Adyr, you will need to turn down the New Game + opportunity for now and head back to the Shrine of Adyr. With Adyr slain, there will be a new Umbral Vestige available which, when soulflayed, will award you with the Remembrance of Adyr, the Bereft Exile.
