Dune: Awakening allows players to unlock all five specializations by completing trainer questlines—even if they didn’t choose a class during character creation. To gain access to the Trooper class, you’ll need to complete a full sequence of story-driven contracts across Hagga Basin, Arrakeen and Harko Village.
Unlike a build guide, this walkthrough focuses strictly on quests, trainer locations, tools needed and rewards. If you’re looking for skill advice, weapons or combat builds, refer to our best Trooper build and skills guide.
1. Trooper Class Quest Checklist for Dune: Awakening
To unlock the Trooper class in Dune: Awakening, you must complete the quests listed below in order:
- Trooper Basics: Proving Grounds
- Seeking Control
- Regaining Control
- A Shot at Improving
- Master of Weapons
- Surgical Strike
- The Cleansing of Kara Valk
2. Quest 1: Proving Grounds – Unlock Trooper skills
Your first step is to visit Griffin’s Reach Tradepost in Hagga Basin South, where you’ll find Ghavouri, the Basic Trooper Trainer. Speak to him to begin the Proving Grounds quest, which unlocks the Trooper skill tree if you did not select Trooper as your starting class.
Ghavouri will send you to eliminate three local enemies as part of a blood feud:
- Aatu Golven – located at Kaleff’s Stand
- Kirsi Tol – found inside Shamal Tunnel
- Cardanus Ulun – hiding in Edgeway Cavern
Each enemy is housed in a separate cave complex in eastern Hagga Basin. The caves are guarded by scavengers and shielded enemies. Once all targets are eliminated, return to Ghavouri to finish the contract.
Quest: Proving Grounds
Location: Griffin’s Reach, Hagga Basin South
Reward: 700 XP, 2,000, Unlock Trooper skill tree
Tip: All three targets in the Proving Grounds quest—Aatu Golven, Kirsi Tol, and Cardanus Ulun—are hidden inside caves without visible boss icons or health bars. To find the correct target in each cave, look for the enemy with the largest health pool and visible shield bar—usually a slightly larger model or armed with heavier weapons. Also, bring a Sandbike to drastically cut travel time between the caves in eastern Hagga Basin, as these locations are spread far apart.
3. Quest 2: Seeking Control – Advanced Trooper training
Then, travel to Arrakeen by taxi (2,500 Solari). Go up to the second floor of the main hall and find Kara Valk on the balcony. She will start the advanced Trooper path by giving you the quest Seeking Control.
The mission takes you to The Sweep, a fortified slaver outpost situated north of the border between Eastern and Western Vermillius. Fight through the base and ascend to the upper level. There, read the intel on a table which triggers a trap: two machine-gunner enemies will appear. Defeat both enemies and loot their Servo-Stim Transmitters, then return to Kara in Arrakeen.
Quest: Seeking Control
Location: The Sweep, Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub
Reward: 700 XP, 4,500 Solari
Tip: Use Drill Shot or disruptor weapons to break shields quickly. The Sweep has heavy enemy resistance and tight spaces.
4. Quest 3: Regaining Control – Tuco’s Trail
Next, Kara asks you to track down a missing smuggler named Tuco. Travel to Harko Village and wait near the quest marker at the Baron’s Eye. If Tuco doesn’t appear, speak to Anoushika Hannivar at the bar and choose the dialogue option, “I’d like a Kirani Brandy.” This grants you access to a ledger in the back room, revealing Tuco’s last known location.
Fly to the crater northwest of The Sweep and use your Handheld Resource Scanner to survey the area. This reveals a follow-up objective at the CHOAM Mineral Extraction Facility #6 in Hagga Rift. Enter the radiated section there and examine Tuco’s body next to a crashed sandbike.
Quest: Regaining Control
Locations: Harko Village → Jabal Eifrit → Hagga Rift
Reward: 700 XP, 4,500 Solari
Required Tools:
- Handheld Resource Scanner
- Radiation Suit (or stamina for timed escape)
- Ornithopter (to reach remote rift levels)
Tip: When exploring the CHOAM Mineral Extraction Facility #6 for Tuco’s body, equip a Radiation Suit if you have one. Without it, you’ll be forced to rush in and out quickly to avoid lethal damage. Alternatively, remember a safe exit path so you don’t get lost while your radiation bar ticks down. Bringing an Ornithopter also helps you access the right Rift level quickly, saving time and reducing risk.
5. Quest 4: A Shot at Improving – Unlock Trooper Tier 3 Skills
Kara’s next request is a recovery mission for stimulant medicine. Speak again with the Suk Doctor in Harko Village then return to Hannivar and repeat the “Kirani Brandy” dialogue to reveal your next target: Taqwa’s Watch in The O’odham.
Once inside, fight through waves of enemies to eliminate Moscaret—a shielded enemy with no nameplate. He holds the medicine needed to stabilize Kara. Return to the doctor for prep then deliver it to Kara in Arrakeen to unlock your Level 3 Trooper skills.
Quest: A Shot at Improving
Locations: Harko Village → The O’odham
Reward: 700 XP, 7,000 Solari, Unlock 3 Trooper Skill Points
Tip: When heading to Taqwa’s Watch to defeat Moscaret, expect a tougher fight than the earlier Proving Grounds targets. Moscaret has heavy shields and often uses machine guns. Bring Disruptor damage weapons or abilities like Drill Shot to shred his defenses faster. Also, clear smaller enemies first to avoid being overwhelmed during the boss fight. A Suspensor Belt can help you quickly reposition if Moscaret pushes you into corners.
6. Quest 5: Master of Weapons – Unlocking the Suspensor Blast Skill
This quest tests your mastery of the Trooper toolkit. You must demonstrate three distinct skills in a safe zone, such as the northern Hagga Basin.
Abilities to use:
- Assault Seeker
- Attractor Field
- Gravity Field
After completing the demonstration, return to the Suk Doctor and pay 1,000 Solari for another dose of the medicine required for the Trooper program. Bring it to Kara to unlock the Suspensor Blast capstone skill.
Quest: Master of Weapons
Reward: 700 XP, 4,500 Solari, unlock Suspensor Blast skill
Tip: You’ll need to spend around 12 skill points in the Trooper skill tree to unlock all three abilities. If necessary, you can use the Respec option, which has a 48-hour cooldown.
7. Quest 6: Surgical Strike – Unlocking the Reflexive Reload Skill
Kara now tasks you with recovering a coded Shipping Manifest from Kadir’s Shadow, a facility located just west of The Anvil. Enter from the southern gate and eliminate nearby guards before ascending the main building. On the upper level, locate the Shipping Manifest beside a lit table and interact with it to complete the mission.
Quest: Surgical Strike
Location: Kadir’s Shadow
Reward: 700 XP, 4,500 Solari, Unlock Reflexive Reload skill
Tip: Kadir’s Shadow features dense enemy groups in narrow corridors. Use vertical movement tools like a Suspensor Belt to bypass foes, or equip Disruptor weapons and Drill Shot for fighting through. Clear smaller enemies first to avoid being swarmed when accessing the Shipping Manifest on the top floor.
8. Quest 7: The Cleansing of Kara Valk – Final Quest and Unlocking the Energy Capsule Skill
To conclude the Trooper quest chain, speak to Campos Demari in Arrakeen and pay 4,000 Solari to arrange Kara’s transport. Then fly to the Smuggler Dead Drop northeast of the Hand of Khidr to retrieve the hidden coordinates.
Return to Kadir’s Shadow and fight your way to the top floor, where a Commander will spawn. Defeat him and loot the Commander Servo-Stim Transmitter. Deliver it to the Suk Doctor then locate Kara at her new spot, the Salusan Bull bar in Arrakeen.
Quest: The Cleansing of Kara Valk
Final Rewards: 700 XP, 4,500 Solari, Unlock Energy Capsule (Capstone Skill), Mendex Rattle (Burst Rifle)
Tip: When storming the upper floors of Kadir’s Shadow to defeat the Commander, prepare for one of the toughest battles in the Trooper quest chain. The Commander has a high health pool and a powerful shield. Equip Drill Shot or other shield-piercing weapons to break through his defenses quickly. Be sure to clear lower-level enemies before heading upstairs to avoid getting swarmed mid-fight. A Suspensor Belt makes vertical movement faster and allows you to reposition if the Commander forces you into corners. Finally, bring at least 4,000 Solari for Campos Demari’s fee before starting this quest, so you don’t get stuck midway through the quest chain.
