All Fast Travel Methods and Locations Explained

Dune: Awakening does not use traditional map-based teleportation. Instead, it features a Fast Travel Taxi Service operated by Ornithopter Pilots located in major tradeposts and cities. This guide explains how to unlock fast travel, where to find the pilots, how much it costs, and what limitations apply to using the system effectively.

1. How to Unlock Fast Travel in Dune: Awakening

Fast travel becomes available when you reach the Griffin’s Reach Tradepost as part of the main quest “A Touch of Civilisation”. Once there, a side quest called “A Wider World” leads you to an Ornithopter Pilot stationed near the merchant and contract board inside the main building.

  • Speak to the pilot standing beside the Ornithopter hologram.
  • Select the option: “I want you to fly me somewhere.”
  • This unlocks the “Taxi Service” for travel to previously visited tradeposts and cities.

Important: You can only fast travel to locations you’ve already visited in person.

2. Where to Find Ornithopter Pilots

The first fast travel pilot is located in Griffin’s Reach in Hagga Basin South. Other major tradeposts and cities across Arrakis will also have pilots stationed near their central hubs. You must approach them directly to initiate travel — there is no fast travel option from the world map.

3. Fast Travel Destinations

Once unlocked, fast travel lets you fly to:

  • Arrakeen – the capital of House Atreides
  • Harko Village – the Harkonnen stronghold
  • Hagga Basin – access specific tradeposts or cities you have discovered in this region (Griffin’s Reach, The Anvil, The Crossroads, Pinnacle Station)

Only previously visited locations are selectable, so exploration is necessary to expand travel options.

4. Fast Travel Costs and Rules

Using the fast travel system costs Solari, the in-game currency:

  • 700 Solari – travel between tradeposts within the same biome
  • 2,500 Solari – travel to major cities like Arrakeen or Harko Village

Hub city trips offer return routes and sometimes include additional travel options for free. For example, flying to Arrakeen and then to another tradepost may include the second leg without an additional cost.

5. Limitations of Fast Travel

  • You cannot fast travel from the map — only by speaking to a pilot NPC.
  • You must unlock each destination by visiting it first.
  • Travel is one-way unless specified, and return trips must be paid for separately.
  • The system is not available in all zones, especially in hostile or undeveloped areas.

6. Other Travel Options

Outside of the fast travel service, players can use their own vehicles such as Sandbikes or eventually unlock their own Ornithopters for more flexible movement across the world. However, these are vulnerable to sandworm attacks if not used cautiously.

  • Always use Vehicle Backup Tools to save vehicles before crossing dangerous zones.
  • Explore early and unlock as many tradeposts as possible to maximize fast travel efficiency.

7. Should You Use Fast Travel?

Fast travel is ideal for saving time when managing contracts, returning to your faction hub, or shifting between distant regions for quests. However, due to its cost, it is best used selectively until you have a stable income source.

  • Use it to avoid risky crossings in sandworm zones.
  • Plan trips to cover multiple destinations in one fare when possible.

8. Summary: Fast Travel Tips

  • Unlock it early by completing “A Wider World” at Griffin’s Reach.
  • Explore tradeposts to expand available destinations.
  • Use Solari wisely — prioritize hub trips when bouncing between regions.
  • Vehicles help fill in the gaps where pilots don’t go.
