Lethal Company is a relatively new game that came out on October 2023, which pits the player(s) against all kinds of horrors that lurk around in one of the many moons that the players can choose to land, where they can try and loot all the goodies inside for several days to trade them in for cash. That is… if they can survive.
On many moons that the players can choose to land and explore, there will also be several Entities that await the players, both inside the building or outside, sometimes surrounding the Ship. This is why knowing the Entities, their behaviors, and the escape methods to survive them are as important as the looting process itself.
This guide will aim to help the players spot and escape from The Bracken in Lethal Company, including its characteristics, behaviors, and how to escape from this particular entity. Let’s begin.
What is The Bracken in Lethal Company?
The Bracken is a shadowy, yet humanoid monster in Lethal Company that can quietly stalk the players and attempt to snap their necks and drag away their corpses to its favorite room within the building. The in-game Bestiary entry has this to say about The Bracken:
There is debate on the genus to which the Bracken belongs. It is a bipedal vertebrate with skin the color and texture of a red beet. The name is coined for what appear to be leaves protruding from its upper spine. The purpose of these is believed to be intimidation, however not much is known about the specifics of bracken behavior due to its elusiveness and low population.
We know a little from accounts by wildlife experts who have encountered it. It is a lone hunter with high intelligence. Its behavior can seem aloof; it exhibits high aggression even when unprovoked, yet quickly backs off when confronted. However, brackens are known to up their hostility when cornered or simply watched for a long time. It’s theorized that upon death their bodies undergo a rapid decomposition process which is unique from other large animals.
In short, The Bracken is very aggressive, yet retreats easily when you poke it enough. However, if you are not careful, then The Bracken will be your demise once you get to meet its eyes in the darkness.
The Bracken’s Behaviors
Now that we know the general understanding of The Bracken within the game, let’s move on to its behaviors, and see its patterns of movements and attacks to help you have a better chance of escaping The Bracken in Lethal Company.
For starters, you can only find one Bracken in any type of Moons, be it Dine, Assurance, or Titan, with the highest chance of it appearing on the Vow Moon. This means that you don’t have to worry about having to encounter more than one Bracken per Moon. Moreover, The Bracken has a distinct grunting noise that is different from Coil-Head, Nutcrackers, or Thumpers, allowing you to identify this threat almost immediately.
To summarize, here are several sure signs that you have The Bracken within your playthrough:
- The Bracken has a very luminous pair of eyes, making it distinguishable, even in total darkness.
- You can listen for its grunting noises, which are unique to The Bracken, allowing you to identify this Entity quite easily.
- You can hear a distinct sound coming from The Bracken whenever it enters the ‘Anger’ state.
- The Bracken is easily spooked yet will attack you if you stare at it for longer than 4 or 5 seconds.

How to Escape The Bracken in Lethal Company
If you happen to find The Bracken in one of your playthroughs in Lethal Company, having a sound and calm mind is key to successfully escaping from it. Here are several tips to successfully escape from The Bracken:
- Don’t Panic. Usually, players in Lethal Company might have a panic moment whenever they encounter an Entity, which might lead them to make an incorrect decision, which also happens when they encounter The Bracken. The first step in trying to escape this Entity is to keep a calm mind and assess the situation quickly, as The Bracken is one of the Entities in Lethal Company that can kill you very fast if you’re not careful.
- Find the Clues. If you think that The Bracken is in one of your playthroughs, it is imperative to quickly find its behavioral clues to understand your situation within that Moon.
- Employ the Right Strategy. Once you find two illuminated eyes lurking around, even in total darkness, this is where things get serious. Always remember that, unlike Coil-Heads, The Bracken only needs to be stared at for 2 seconds at best. Any longer than that, and you will risk yourself getting hunted by The Bracken, resulting in your neck getting snapped.
- Do Not Turn Your Back Against The Bracken Before Properly Scaring It Off. Perhaps, this is the most crucial step in fighting off The Bracken. If you do this, it will zoom to your location incredibly quickly and snap your neck before you can even retaliate.

Fight or Flight? If you’re playing Lethal Company solo, you should escape the facility, either through the Fire Exit or the Main Entrance immediately, as you don’t have other partners to help you fight The Bracken off. If you’re playing co-op, then you might be able to ask two of your friends to hit it with a Shovel, a Shotgun, or chuck a Stun Grenade to slow down The Bracken. However, it is imperative that the best strategy against The Bracken is to immediately retreat after flashing it for 2 seconds, as any missteps will result in imminent death for one of your crews.
