How to Change Your CS2 Viewmodel in Counter-Strike 2

The viewmodel in Counter-Strike 2 is your hands and gun for aiming and shooting. You can adjust the position of your CS2 viewmodel in numerous ways, even though Counter-Strike 2 includes only one built-in setting for doing so. Counter-Strike 2 has a developer console with which players can change the positions of their view models according to preference. That enables you to move your viewmodel left, right, up, and down and adjust its field of view. This is how you can change your CS2 viewmodel in the Counter-Strike 2 game.

Set the Left-Hand CS2 Viewmodel

Counter-Strike 2 includes a keyboard key setting for switching your CS2 viewmodel to a left-handed alternative. This left viewmodel will probably be preferable for left-handed players. You can switch to the left-handed viewmodel by pressing its default H key for it when playing any match. This is how you can change the key binding for that setting.

  1. Launch the Counter-Strike 2 game.
  2. Click the cog settings button.
  3. Next, select the Keyboard/Mouse tab.
  4. Scroll down and click the box for the Switch Viewmodel Left/Right-Hand setting.

Change the CS2 Viewmodel with the Developer Console

The developer console is a tool with which you can customize and configure the Counter-Strike 2 game in many ways beyond the in-game settings. That’s the tool we can utilize for customizing the CS2 viewmodel. First, you’ll need to enable and activate the developer console. Our guide to utilizing CS2 commands includes instructions for how players can enable and activate the CS2 developer console.

Start a practise match with a few harmless bots in which to configure your CS2 viewmodel. You can then execute console commands and immediately see their effects on your viewmodel. Press the ` key to bring up the developer console. These are the commands with which you can change the viewmodel:

  • Move gun further left or right: viewmodel_offset_x (-2 to 2.5 value range)
  • Change the gun distance from character: viewmodel_offset_y (-2 to 2 value range)
  • Move gun up/down: viewmodel_offset_z (-2 to 2 value range)
  • Adjust the field of view: viewmodel_fov (54 to 68 value range)

Set viewmodel preset: viewmodel_presetpos (1 to 3 value range for desktop, crouch, and classic presets)
Input those commands with values in the developer console and press Enter to execute. The value ranges for those commands are shown within the brackets above. This is what those commands should look like with values:

  • viewmodel_offset_x 2.5
  • viewmodel_offset_y -2
  • viewmodel_offset_z 1
  • viewmodel_fov 68
  • viewmodel_presetpos 1

Experiment with those commands by executing them to see their effects. You can restore the default desktop viewmodel by executing the viewmodel_presetpos 1 command. However, I had to execute viewmodel_presetpos 2 first to get the viewmodel_presetpos 1 command to work.

Change the CS2 Viewmodel With Viewmodel Generator

Viewmodel Generator is a workshop map that provides a user interface for changing your CS2 viewmodel. This workshop map is still based on the viewmodel console commands above but enables you to execute them by shooting at settings rather than manually entering text into a console. To add the map to your game, open this Viewmodel Generator page and click Subscribe. Start Counter-Strike 2 and select Play > Workshop Maps > Viewmodel > Go to enter the map.

You’ll see custom viewmodel presets on the right of the settings panel. These are options for setting some of the more popular Counter-Strike 2 viewmodel presets from the CS2 community. There you can select viewmodel presets like Quake, Gangster, M7, and TrilluXe, among others, to see what they’re like.

To save your reconfigured viewmodel, shoot the Save Viewmodel button. Alternatively, press Esc and select Exit to main menu to leave the map without saving. You can always revert to the default viewmodel by shooting the Restore VM option.

Changing the CS2 viewmodel is a good way to customize your Counter-Strike 2 gaming experience. You can utilize the command console or Viewmodel Generator map to set a viewmodel you’re more comfortable with for playing Counter-Strike 2 matches. It’s ok to do so for viewmodel commands because they’re not cheats Valve doesn’t allow for competitive online matches.
