Hollow Knight: Silksong – All Psalm Cylinder Locations And How To Get

Psalm Cylinders in Hollow Knight: Silksong are a type of quest item tied to lore and progression. Acquiring the Psalm Cylinder can be challenging, as they are located in different regions in Pharloom. If you collect all 6 Cylinders, you can complete the Vaultkeeper’s Quest. You can also get rosaries for collecting them and unlock new melodies to play and listen to.

Psalm Cylinder doesn’t affect combat in any aspect. Unlock Cling Grip, Drifter’s Cloak, Clawline, and Faydown Cloak abilities to traverse through areas like Songclave easily. In this guide, I’ll discuss how to collect all the Psalm Cylinders in Hollow Knight: Silksong while progressing.

What is the Psalm Cylinder in Hollow Knight Silksong

Psalm Cylinder is a special collectible item in Hollow Knight: Silksong with a special melody. A Melody is unlocked from each Psalm Cylinder. Use the Melody to listen while playing the game. When you give a Psalm Cylinder to Vaultkeeper Cardinius in the Whispering Vaults, he will reward you with Rosaries for each special cylinder. 

1. Whispering Vaults (Psalm Cylinder Location #1)

Whispering Vaults Psalm Cylinder

Get your hands on the first Psalm Cylinder from the Whispering Vaults. This area is located in The Citadel in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Move to the west of the southmost bench in Whispering Vaults near the connecting path to locate this Psalm Cylinder.

1. Make your way to the Whispering Vaults from the Choral Chambers.
2. Find the bench where you find Vaultkeeper Cardinius.
3. Keep moving to the right to get the way to the end.
4. Jump over the platform to get your hands on the Psalm Cylinder.

2. Entrance to Underworks (Psalm Cylinder Location #2)

Underworks

Move to the side of the entrance to the Underworks to collect the Psalm Cylinder. Underworks is the first location you enter in Act 2. Defeat the Last Judge allows you to gain access to the path leading to this region. Acquiring the Cylinder is required for the Vaultkeeper’s Melody Quest.

1. Move all the way to the lower half of Whispering Vaults, separated from the upper section.
2. Defeat Trobbio to unlock the area to Underworks.
3. Use the elevator to move down into this region.
4. Follow the path to get to the bottom of the vaults.
5. Collect this Sacred Cylinder from the far left end.

3. Songclave (Psalm Cylinder Location #3)

Songclave area

Reach the secret area of Songclave to collect your third Psalm Cylinder in Hollow Knight Silksong. The second path to Bilewater begins in Songclave. This area has sharp corners with spikes, so use Drifter’s Cloak to glide across safely. The Cling Grip or Wall Jump ability makes general navigation much easier. Faydown Cloak makes your progress quick in the game and uncovers new secrets.

1. Make your way above from the Whispering Vaults.
2. Travel to the right to enter the next chamber.
3. Keep moving forward and jump over the platform to get to the top.
4. Go through a narrow area after reaching a wall with spikes.

3.1 Go through Spiked Gears

Explore Songclave

You can find the spiked gears during your journey, so use the Drifter’s Cloak ability to steer clear of this section. Climb up the vertical platforms and walls with Cling Grip. 

1. Travel all the way to the top and continue moving to the right.
2. Use the Cling Grip ability to move upward and head right to find a large ring.
3. Move below the ring to progress further.
4. Use the Drifter’s Cloak ability to pass through the area of spiked gears after moving to the bottom.
5. Get to the platform below to continue moving to the left. This platform is located between two spinning gears.
6. Travel to the left and drop down to get to the path on the right.
7. Dodge the spiked chains efficiently by using your Swift Step ability.

3.2 Watch out for the Spiky Walls

Spiked Walls

1. Move all the way to the right till you find a spiky wall with a narrow opening.
2. Use the Drifter’s Cloak ability and pass through the narrow opening. Make sure to dodge the spiky walls.
3. Get inside the large area and hug the wall on the left using the Cling Grip ability.
4. Move upward from the wall and travel to the left while dodging the spiky walls.

3.3 Obtain Psalm Cylinder

Psalm Cylinder in Bilewater

To find the Psam Cylinder, you need to go through several narrow openings with spiked walls in the Songclave Bilewater area. 

1. Use the Faydown Cloak and Cling Grip to move upward.
2. Hit the lever on the left and continue moving to the left.
3. Drop down from the opening on the left and use the Faydown Cloak to move downward.
4. Move to the lever on the right after hitting the wheel several times to get to the top from the air vent.
5. Hit the lever after reaching the top, allowing you to open a path upward.
6. Travel to the left from the platform to collect the Psalm Cylinder from the ground.

4. High Halls (Psalm Cylinder Location #4)

High Halls

This Psalm Cylinder is located in High Halls. The High Halls is an area in the Citadel in Hollow Knight Silksong, which is inhabited by the conductors. You can access this area through the Choral Chambers.

1. Move to the left after entering the High Halls to get inside the next chamber.
2. Travel down and continue moving to the left to defeat the enemies.
3. Locate the second waterfall after moving to the left.
4. Use the platform to climb up and continue moving to the right to get to the end of the platform.
5. Go over the platform on the top right from the end.
6. Drop down to collect the Psalm Cylinder.

5. Whiteward (Psalm Cylinder Location #5)

Whiteward Psalm Cylinder

Obtain the Surgeon’s Key to uncover the path of the Unravelled boss in Whiteward. You can get Surgeon’s Key from the right side area of Whiteward, jump and slash through the shining light, and loot the body to get the key. Whiteward in Hollow Knight Silksong is a region in the Citadel section of Pharloom. This area sits between Choral Chambers and the East Underworks.

1. Start at the Whiteward bench and move to the left, and go down the elevator. 
2. Use the Surgeon’s Key on the Ornate Lock in the bottom Whiteward to drop down to the boss arena.
3. Defeat the Unravelled boss and drop down below through the Underworks entrance after moving to the right.
4. Move to the left once you drop down.
5. Hit the wall to uncover a new area on the left.
6. Keep moving in this area to collect Psalm Cylinder.

6. Blasted Steps (Psalm Cylinder Location #6)

Grindle

The final Psalm Cylinder is purchased from the Grindle in Blasted Steps. The Blasted Steps is one of the final regions in Act 1 in Hollow Knight Silksong. This region offers several challenges, including a boss fight at the end.

1. You need to head to the left after getting inside this area.
2. Grindle is located near the entrance to the Sands of Karak.
3. Climb up and keep moving to the left.
4. Use 180 Rosaries to purchase this Psalm Cylinder from this NPC.

Rewards For Completing Vaultkeeper’s Quest

After getting all the Psalm Cylinders, get back to Vaultkeeper Cardinius to complete the Vaultkeeper’s Quest. You will unlock a gramophone and can buy it from him for 490 Rosaries. You can add the gramophone to your bellhome, which is a permanent residence for the hornet. Add the gramophone to the residence and resting point and play the exclusive melodies.
