Gardening is one of Heartopia’s most rewarding and profitable hobbies, letting you grow crops and flowers for gold, cooking, crafting, crossbreeding, and hobby progression. It unlocks early in the game, and leveling it reveals new seeds, tools, and bonuses.
1. How Gardening Hobby Works
Gardening unlocks automatically early in the tutorial when you meet Blanc, the Gardening Mentor, and get your first watering can and starter seeds. The Gardening Hobby lets you:
- Grow crops like tomatoes, wheat, corn, strawberries etc.
- Grow flowers to decorate or create unique colors.
- Earn Gardening XP by planting, watering, and harvesting — leveling up unlocks more options.
- Improve crop quality, which gives better ingredients for cooking and higher sell prices.
- Sell crops for gold — gardening is excellent passive income when planned well.
2. Blanc — Your Gardening Mentor
Blanc is the NPC who introduces and manages the Gardening and Seed Shop located near Garden Street south of the Town Center, overseeing all aspects related to crops, flowers, and seeds.
Blanc offers Gardening-related quests that reward you with seeds, tools, fertilizers, and Gardening experience, helping you level the skill faster and unlock more advanced planting options.
Items Sold By Blanc
- All crop seeds and flower seeds
- Fertilizers to boost growth and yield
- Growth boosters for faster harvests
- Planters for indoor and outdoor gardening
- Watering cans
- Rainbow Breeding Powder (used for advanced flower breeding)
Blanc also gives you your first watering can and starter seeds to help you get started during the Gardening tutorial.
Blanc’s Daily Routine
Blanc moves between his home and garden shop at set times.
- 6 AM–8 AM — Gardening at his home garden
- 8 AM–12 PM — Garden Shop
- 12 PM–1 PM — Town Square
- 1 PM–6 PM — Garden Shop
- 6 PM–8 PM — Home garden
- 8 PM–10 PM — Relaxing at home
Tip: You can track Blanc on the map to find him quickly.
3. How to Start Gardening
Step 1 — Unlock Gardening
- Complete the tutorial until you meet Blanc the gardening mentor.
- Blanc gives you a watering can and starter seeds.
- Gardening appears in your Hobbies list.
Step 2 — Prepare Your Garden
- Access your home garden plot.
- Place planters from your inventory (initial plot limit based on hobby level).
- You will unlock more planters and soil tiles as you level up.
Step 3 — Buy & Plant Seeds
- Visit Blanc’s Garden Shop and buy seeds.
- Open inventory → select seed → place in planter (crops) or soil (flowers).
- Some seeds are locked behind Gardening level requirements; level gardening to unlock them.
Step 4 — Water Daily
- Equip your watering can from the Tools menu.
- Tap/click each planter/flower plot to water — look for the sparkle effect.
- From Garden Level 3, you can hold to water multiple plants at once.
- Missing watering delays growth and lowers quality.
Watering your crops daily is essential. Without water, crops still grow, but at a lower quality and slower rate.
Note: Snow or rain may auto‑water plants but can interfere with quest recognition. If watering isn’t counting, try watering neighbor plots or waiting for the next day.
Step 5 — Harvest
- Once plants reach full growth, interact to harvest.
- Replant seeds right away to keep cycles going.
- Harvesting gives Gardening proficiency XP and produces items for cooking/selling.
4. Fertilizer & Growth Boosters
Applying fertilizer and watering your crops allows you to increase the chance of getting higher-quality stars at harvest. As your Gardening hobby level increases, your crops naturally have better base quality chances. (better star rating = higher sell value and better food utility).
How to get Fertilizer
Buy from Blanc at the Gardening Shop (multiple types at different prices).
- Basic Fertilizer ~160G
- Quality Fertilizer ~450G
- Top Fertilizer ~1000G
Craft at any Workbench using:
- 1x Timber (chop trees)
- 1x Weed (foraging or plucking while gardening)
Apply fertilizer right after planting for the best quality, and use growth boosters to reduce crop times.
5. All Crop Seeds List
Below is the complete crop seed table showing growth times, unlock levels, and buy/sell info:
| Crop | Growth Time | Unlock Level | Seed Cost | Sell Value (Harvest) |

7. How to do Flower Crossbreeding
Crossbreeding unlocks at Gardening Level 3 and lets you create hybrid flowers and rare colors.
- Buy two different colored flowers (Red + White, Red + Yellow, etc.).
- Plant them adjacent (touching) in the soil.
- Water daily until mature.
- Look for a floating seed icon — that means a new hybrid seed spawned.
- Walk over the seed to collect it and plant it to grow a new hybrid flower.
Tips
- Plant up to the maximum allowed (12+ flowers, depending on level) to increase adjacency chances.
- Friend watering dramatically improves chances (+10–70% chance boost).
- Rainbow Breeding Powder from Blanc can guarantee a hybrid seed when used on fully mature pairs — especially useful for rare colors.
Crossbreeding Color Outcomes
The crossbreeding system isn’t purely color mixing — it’s progressive and can require multiple generations.
Basic Hybrid Colors (From Base Colors)
Start with Red, White, and Yellow flowers (base colors sold by Blanc when unlocked).
| Parent Colors | Hybrid Color |
|---|---|
| Red + White | Pink |
| Red + Yellow | Orange |
| White + Yellow | Cream |
Advanced & Rare Colors
Rare colors like Purple, Blue, Black, Green, etc. require multi‑step crossbreeding using previously created hybrids:
| Parents | Possible Outcome | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pink + Pink | Light Pink (2★) | First-tier hybrid |
| Orange + Pink | Coral | Rare variant |
| Orange + Orange | Blue (Pansy variant) | Very rare |
| 2★ Pink + 3★ Peach | Green | Mid‑tier hybrid (Daisy example) |
| Green + Green | Glowing Blue / Selene variants | Top‑tier rare |
| Red + Red (same species)** | Black (rare) | rare black variants via same‑color crosses |
NOTE: These advanced combinations aren’t always guaranteed from one attempt — they depend on star tiers and RNG, so multiple generations and attempts may be required.
Crossbreeding success and output follow an underlying star/tier system rather than simple color math — meaning you often need to breed for higher star versions to unlock rarer output. For example:
- 1★ + 1★ = 2★ outcome (e.g., Red + White → Pink)
- 2★ + 3★ pairs yield 4★ outcomes
- 3★ + 4★ pairs yield 5★ outcomes
8. How To Unlock Gardening Hobby Skills
As you perform gardening activities — planting seeds, watering plants, tending crops, harvesting mature plants, and even removing weeds — you earn Gardening Proficiency Experience. This XP increases your Gardening Level, and higher levels unlock new perks, greater capacity, better efficiency, and crossbreeding mechanics.
Raising your Gardening Level lets you access more types of seeds, better crop yields, additional plot space, and special abilities that make gardening easier and more productive.
| Gardening Hobby Skill | Effect / Benefit | Unlock Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Agronomy Expert | Increases the number of plant boxes/planters you can place, letting you grow more crops at once. | Unlocks at early to mid Gardening levels as you progress. |
| Planting Skill | Allows you to tend to more land tiles or plant more at once, expanding your active gardening area. | Unlocks as your Gardening Level increases. |
| Bountiful Crops | Improves the chance of a double harvest from mature crops, effectively increasing resources per grow cycle. | Mid Gardening levels. |
| Watering Can Maintenance | Improves durability and effectiveness of the watering can — watering actions become more efficient and long‑lasting. | Mid Gardening levels. |
| Flower Expert | Increases the maximum number of flowers you can plant and is the first skill tied to flower mechanics. | Typically unlocks around Gardening Level 3, which also unlocks flower planting and crossbreeding. |
| Crop Expert | Boosts crop quality after watering, increasing the chance of silver or gold star crops, which sell for more gold and are more effective in cooking. | Higher Gardening levels. |
| Cultivation Expert | Increases chance of crossbreeding success after watering flowers, making rare hybrid seeds more likely. | Higher Gardening levels. |
| Rainbow Breeding Powder Access | Unlocks the ability to purchase Rainbow Breeding Powder from Blanc’s shop — a special item that significantly boosts crossbreeding success for fully matured flowers. | Unlocked once you’ve reached crossbreeding capability (usually level 3+) and progressed Blanc’s vendor inventory. |
