The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage Boss Fight Guide in Granblue Fantasy Relink
Proto Bahamut Phase 1 Moveset: Bound Bahamut
Once you and your team set out, The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage will begin.
There are three distinct phases to the Proto Bahamut fight, beginning with a bound and shackled Bahamut. This is Bahamut’s easiest form where he has a big focus on dealing ranged damage.
Proto Bahamut will begin the fight by flying, sending out many deadly Light Orbs which, if they make it to the ship, will change into large AoEs that deal big damage. To counter this, two players should hop onto the available Ether Cannons facing Bahamut and shoot down the Light Orbs before they can reach the ship. The most important Light Orbs to shoot down are the red ones as they result in the biggest AoE and leave behind a pool which inflicts Slow.
While two people are manning the cannons, the other two will be dealing with the Skotadi. These small enemies will pop up all over the Grancypher’s deck and, while they aren’t that dangerous on their own, things can quickly snowball if you don’t kill them quick enough. The Skotadi release a line AoE in any direction a few seconds after spawning before exploding if they linger for too long.
After this, Proto Bahamut will cast Arcadia. During Arcadia, players must destroy a certain amount of elemental crystals which spawn around the Grandcypher, with the number of crystals being dictated by Arcadia’s elemental affinity: failing to do so will unleash a massive, devastating attack across the whole ship that will likely take out your whole team. In total, there are four different kinds of Arcadia:
- Arcadia: Xanthos | An Earth element attack which spawns a single giant Earth Crystal at the centre of the ship. This crystal will pulse every few seconds, letting out a wave of very high Earth damage which can be dodged or jumped.
- Arcadia: Erythos | A Fire element attack where Proto Bahamut spawns two large Fire Crystals on either side of the deck. Every few seconds, a fiery meteor will fall from the sky towards one player, lightly tracking them.
- Arcadia: Kyanos | A Water element attack where Proto Bahamut spawns two small Water Crystals on either end of the Grandcypher and an additional larger Water Crystal in the middle. These crystals will periodically release ice shards similar to those used by Managarmr.
- Arcadia: Khlores | A Wind element attack which spawns four Wind Crystals at the corners of the Grandcypher. They will spit out hurricanes in a straight line every few seconds.
Proto Bahamut will always cast Arcadia at the same point in the battle but the kind of Arcadia it will use seems to be random. Khlores and Erythos are most commonly seen in the first cast of Arcadia, with Xanthos and Kyanos following in Bahamut’s subsequent casts. Breaking Arcadia in time will stun Bahamut, allowing you to coast on in for some easy damage.
After the first round of Arcadia damage, Bahamut should have around 80% to 85% health remaining. If you don’t drop him below 80%, he will continue firing off Light Orbs but begin crashing into the ship with his body, dealing massive damage to anybody standing at the cannons. It is possible with the right characters and debuffs to get Bahamut below 80% in that first round of Arcadia damage, skipping straight to his second phase.
- Arcadia: Khloros
- Arcadia: Xanthos
Proto Bahamut Phase 2 Moveset: Skyfall
Once Proto Bahamut drops below 80% health, he will dash away from the ship and cast Skyfall. During this attack, Bahamut tears his shackles and bindings before unleashing a monstrous attack on the Grandcypher.
As soon as the Skyfall animation ends and you regain control of your character, make for the left-most or right-most side of the Grandcypher because, shortly after, Bahamut will unleash a beam of pure destructive energy onto the middle of the ship. This attack will deal 99,9999 damage to anyone caught in it.
Immediately after Skyfall, Proto Bahamut will swoop up to the left side of the Grandcypher and perch on it before casting Reginleiv twice in a row. The first Reginleiv cast will go in a diagonal line from the ship’s bottom left corner to the top right corner, whereas the second Reginleiv cast will do the opposite. This isn’t the only time you’ll see Reginleiv throughout the fight but, for future reference, it’s wise to hold your guard while dodging because you can block and survive a small amount of damage even if you do get hit.
Following this, Bahamut will perform another Arcadia cast. This will be a different element from the one you saw originally so stay on your toes. Break the Crystals and another lengthy damage phase will be yours to exploit.
After your round of Arcadia damage, Bahamut will begin cycling through moves until you reach another Arcadia cast. An additional set of attacks he’ll start using including a fast claw swipe across one half of the deck which needs to be dodged or blocked through as well as a bite attack when he’s perched.

Proto Bahamut Phase 3 Moveset: Absolute Judgement
Proto Bahamut still has one final transformation up his sleeve.
Once you drop Bahamut’s health below 50%, he will cast Absolute Judgement, transforming into the same white and green form we saw at the end of his fight with Bahamut Versa.
He will then cast Supernova, Bahamut’s strongest attack, and you will instantly fail one of the side objectives if any of your team gets hit. The first element of Supernova is the purple ground AoEs which deal a lot of damage and knockback if you don’t escape them in time. The first large AoE will be in the direct centre of the ship, whereas the next two will be on the left and right. However, there will also be several smaller AoEs which track two players at a time, meaning that you need to be aware of your positioning.
Once the AoEs are finished, Bahamut will quickly cast another Skyfall beam, forcing your team to scatter to the edges of the Grandcypher. This attack has a lot more suction than the first, to the point where you will likely be sucked into the attack if you don’t actively try and move away from it.
Following Supernova, he will fly close to the ship and smash his fist down on either the left, middle or right, dealing massive, likely lethal, damage if you’re standing where he impacts. He’ll then fly away and come back in for another Reginleiv. Unlike the first cast of Reginleiv, this time Bahamut will continually move the beam around the ship in a set pattern. There will also be a small spark which follows the beam trail, dealing damage if you get caught by it. Remember to guard when dodging here to give yourself the best chance at survival.
The next move Bahamut will cast is Arcadia but, before that, there’s a really important mechanic. After Bahamut flies away, he’ll spawn four large yellow orbs in the skies in front and behind the ship. All players need to use the Ether Cannons to shoot these orbs down as fast as possible. If you fail to destroy all four of these orbs, they will give a high resistance shield to the crystals in Bahamut’s next Arcadia cast, making them nigh impossible to destroy in time and likely costing you the entire run.
After this, Proto Bahamut will cycle through close-ranged claw sweeps and Reginleivs until he reaches 15% or lower. If enough time passes before this happens, he will also cast a far quicker version of Skyfall so watch him closely to ensure you know when to run.
Fatal Crest
Proto Bahamut’s final gambit comes when you lower his health below 15% where he’ll enter Overdrive and become Bloodlusted. He’ll begin casting an attack called Fatal Crest, which persists even after you crash the Grancypher into him. From that point, it’s a race against the clock as you need to get rid of all of Bahamut’s remaining health before Fatal Crest’s timer completes. Additionally, the Skotadi from phase 1 returns to send line AoEs and other annoying attacks at you.
If you cannot get Bahamut to 0% before the Fatal Crest timer expires, you will instantly wipe and fail the quest, no matter how close you got to finishing Bahamut off. We recommend saving at least one or two SBAs for this moment because you can use them to not only deal high burst damage but also pause the Final Crest timer during their cast animation, giving your teammates a precious few extra seconds.
Manage to get through Final Crest and Proto Bahamut, the toughest challenge in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, will fall. Then, you’ll get to claim all that glorious loot from five different chests and, if you’re lucky, you may end up getting a Terminus Weapon. If you’d like to learn more about Terminus Weapons and what makes them so strong compared to even Ascension Weapons, you can find our Granblue Fantasy Relink Terminus Weapon guide here.
The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage Tips and Advice
Best Sigils to Use
As the toughest battle in Granblue Fantasy Relink, Proto Bahamut essentially demands that you face him with only the best gear, which includes high-level Sigils. The higher a Sigil’s Trait Level, the better the effect they will provide and you’ll need the best kind of Sigils to overcome this quest. However, alongside the usual array of ATK V Combo Booster V, there are two extremely important Traits which all players should try and equip for this fight: Potion Hoarder and Autorevive.
Potion Hoarder and Autorevive are two Sigil types that some players may already be familiar with but, while they are very useful in other quests, these Sigils become almost mandatory in The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage. As for what they do, Potion Hoarder increases the amount of Green Potions, Blue Potions, Mega Potions and Revival Potions you can carry based on the Trait Level, whereas Autorevive will cause you to automatically recover from critical condition every few minutes.
The reason why these Sigils are so important is that they’re your best way of fixing any mistakes you make. Most of Proto Bahamut’s attacks deal lethal amounts of damage, likely taking out any characters caught in their wake, and it’s unreasonable to assume that you’ll dodge every AoE or get out of every Reginleiv cast. In these circumstances, being able to immediately bounce back from being knocked down, whether it be from a stack of Revival Potions or the Autorevive effect, is indispensable. You’ll want to stay out of critical condition as much as possible, especially when some of Bahamut’s attacks are capable of wiping out the entire team at once.
Aside from these survivability Sigils, standard ATK, Critical Hit Rate and DMG Cap Sigils will all be very useful. You may also want to consider picking up the character-exclusive Sigils from Siero’s Knickknack Shack to improve the power of your chosen Bahamut-killer: there are two Sigils for each character, one which you purchase via a Treasure Trade and another which requires Gold Dalia Badges
Stagger Your Skybound Arts
During The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage, most players will likely be able to accrue between 2 or 3 Skybound Arts. Usually, teams will dump all four SBAs at once to trigger a full Burst for additional damage. While this is viable on Proto Bahamut, there is a better strategy which involves staggering out your SBA casts to prolong your Bahamut damage cycles.
Instead of dumping all four of your SBAs into Bahamut at once, stagger them out by only using two at a time. For example, once Bahamut begins to recover from a damage phase, player 1 should hit him with their SBA. Then, when prompted, player 2 should add theirs but players 3 and 4 should hold off. Once Bahamut has taken the Burst damage and begins to recover, player 3 should start the second set of SBAs.
Usually, Bahamut will fly away once you deal enough damage to him or enough time has passed, cutting your damage cycles short. However, if he gets struck by an SBA as he’s leaving, he’ll be forced back to the ship, allowing your teammates to continue whaling on Bahamut with their Skills and normal attacks while the Skybound Art animation is occurring. The more SBAs are used, the longer Bahamut will be held there.
Additionally, solo Skybound Arts don’t benefit from Burst damage, lowering the overall damage output of the team. As such, spamming 4 SBAs one after another simply won’t be that effective. By using two sets of two SBAs, you get the longer damage window on Bahamut without sacrificing the damage of your Skybound Art. The tricky part is just knowing when to cast it as Bahamut will recover at a faster pace each time you successfully deny his escape.
Stay Near the Cannons at All Times
Another major thing to be aware of in this quest is the Ether Cannons. There are two on either side of the ship for a total of four Ether Cannons. Their primary purpose is during phase 1 where you use them to shoot Light Orbs but you can use them to shoot Bahamut at any point for some additional damage. While they are pretty easy to forget, you should always keep their location in the back of your mind. In fact, splitting up your team so that you always have one player hovering near each cannon will prove very useful during the fight, allowing you to quickly get into position if it needs to be used.
This is especially true once Bahamut uses Absolute Judgement and enters phase 3. You’ll want to ensure that everyone stays near a different Ether Cannon so you can take out Bahamut’s yellow shield orbs as quickly as possible: if you only have one person shooting on each side, it becomes far more difficult to take them out, potentially leading to one of the orbs surviving and messing up the next Arcadia cast.
Play Online
Lastly, we highly recommend only playing through The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage with a team of other players via Online Play. Not only is the PWR requirement so high that you’ll likely only have one or two characters who reach that threshold, but the mechanics of the fight are so intense that AI-controlled teammates won’t be able to keep up.
To play The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage online, approach the Quest Counter and then select Play Online. After a few moments, you’ll enter an online lobby where you can return to the Quest Counter and begin The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage. It will then start searching for other players looking to complete the same quest: if you cannot find anyone, try searching again until you find someone because, as the toughest quest in the game, there will be a lot of people looking to complete it.
Additionally, if you find yourself gelling with a team and completing the quest quickly and efficiently, remember that you opt to repeat the quest with the same team in the rewards screen. If everyone on your team agrees, you’ll instantly load into another instance of The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage without having to find new teammates, making it a superb option for those farming the Terminus Weapons.
Best Characters to Use in The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage
Now that you know what kind of strategies to employ in the Proto Bahamut boss fight in Granblue Fantasy Relink, what kind of characters should you bring to this fight?
Firstly, characters who can deal damage at an insanely quick rate are going to excel here, particularly units like Lancelot or Ferry. Both of these characters have an infinite attack loop on their Normal Attacks, allowing them to deal multiple instances of high damage continuously each second. Lancelot and Ferry’s attacks will deal absurd amounts of consistent damage on a downed Bahamut, generating tons of Stun and SBA in the process. This is especially true when Link Time is up as they’ll continually refund the timer, extending the timer for even more bonus stats.
Additionally, Ferry and Lancelot have some additional quirks which make them even better choices for The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage. Firstly, Ferry is a Light character, meaning that she’ll strike both Proto Bahamut and Skotadi for Weakness Damage. Meanwhile, Lancelot’s Normal Attack combo can eventually freeze Bahamut by inflicting Glaciate, extending any damage phase considerably. Both of these units are very good and worth using in this fight.
Another top-tier pick is Eugen who, honestly, is likely one of the best overall picks because of his versatility. His long-ranged fighting style ensures that he can hit the Skotadi or Bahamut from anywhere on the ship whereas his multitude of status moves allow him to inflict everything from Paralyse to Poison. On top of that, he’s simply a character who can deal very competitive amounts of damage, letting you sweep through Bahamut’s health with ease.
Finally, strong meta characters like Percival or Narmaya still work excellently in the Proto Bahamut boss fight. While they won’t be able to deal any damage while he’s flying around the screen, they’ll more than make up for it when he’s downed. Whether it’s Percival’s heavy swings or Narmaya’s damage stances, they can each deal considerable amounts of damage which can easily bypass many of Bahamut’s health gates.
However, these are all simply recommendations. Any character in Granblue Fantasy Relink can beat The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage, so long as they’re at the appropriate PWR and have the right gear. The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage has a PWR of 17,500, meaning that eligible characters for this fight will likely need complete Masteries for both Offense and Defence, close-to-max level Sigils, level 150 weapons with Mirage Munitions and Wrightstones, and more.
That was how to beat The Tale of Bahamut’s Rage in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, the hardest Proud difficulty quest in the game.
