The Beast Within is a main story mission in Dying Light: The Beast, unlocked after completing the Life After Life quest. Your task is to track the Beast that is killing Baron’s men. Since this mission occurs at night, the infected are more aggressive and dangerous, making preparation key. Stock up on UV flares, Molotovs, and medkits before starting. Equip armor with high damage resistance, such as Soldier Armor pieces, to reduce the risk of being downed.
The mission becomes especially challenging in the train tunnels, where Volatiles and hordes of zombies patrol. To survive, avoid unnecessary combat—do not stop to loot or fight in the tunnels, as enemies will overwhelm you quickly. Instead, focus on staying mobile and using stamina efficiently to escape.

In The Beast Within quest, you need to track the Beast across multiple areas, including city rooftops, a church, and dangerous train tunnels at night. You must follow tracks and clues left behind by the Beast, which can be revealed using Survivor Sense. Below are all the steps required to complete The Beast Within quest in Dying Light: The Beast.
1. Initiate The Beast Within Quest
Follow the beast’s traces
Speak with Jacob at the Town Hall (second floor) to gather information about the Beast, which directs you toward a rooftop trail. Jacob informs you about a new type of Volatile that attacks townsfolk and Baron’s men.
- Finish both Safe Haven and Life After Life story missions to complete this mission.
- Move to the Town Hall in the middle of Castor Woods.
- This NPC is available on the second floor of the Town Hall.
- Move to the south corner of the Town Hill and use the ladder to move upward.
- Bring the torch with you to navigate effectively, as it’s nighttime.
- Turn to the left and see a body on the rooftop of the opposite building.
- Jump over to the rooftop and investigate the body. A cutscene will appear on the screen, showcasing the Beast nearby.
2. Follow The Beast’s Traces
Check the explosion site
Use Survivor Sense to spot red clues to follow. Your goal is to follow the tracks and see where the Volatile is heading.
- Keep following the footprints to get inside the building.
- Defeat the zombies over there to clear the path.
- Move to the opposite section of the room and locate an exit on the right side.
- You can locate it easily by using the Survivor Sense.
- An explosion will occur on the left side once you exit this area.
2.1 Investigate the Explosion
Investigate Baron’s men’s bodies
You reach a site under a bridge after a blast by following the rooftop trail. Inspect the bodies, and optionally loot a container and vehicle.
- Move north from the rooftop.
- Locate the fired cars and a few zombies that are killing Baron’s men.
- Simply avoid them and find the truck with a purple light inside.
- Enter the truck from the backside and interact with the body on the left.
- A cutscene will appear, showcasing a person holding a walkie-talkie and talking about the church.
- Make your way to the church located north of your current location.
- Get to the rooftop to move to the church faster. Stay on high ground as it can be risky due to the Volatile that can find and attack you.
3. Move Inside Church

You’ll hear a call directing you to Old Town’s Church. You must find the basement because the main gates are locked. Navigate carefully through the Sleepers.
- Use the marker after moving to the church, leading you to a door with a purple light at the base.
- You can’t get inside from here, so you need to turn around and take the stairs to head down. These stairs are in front of the door.
- Move into the lower level after getting to the bottom of the stairs.
- Move to the halfway point and take a right turn after getting inside.
- Crawl through the hole in the wall to make it to the open area. Be aware of the zombies over there that will attack you.
- Take the exit hidden by a plank in the opposite corner of the room.
- Move slowly and turn off the flashlight while moving from your position to the exit. This allows you to avoid the zombies from attacking you.
3.1 Find a Break In the Wall

Chase up through scaffolding, climb through windows, use ropes, chandeliers, and ledges after getting inside.
- Follow the path moving upward after going through the wooden plank.
- You will get inside the main hall of the church.
- A cutscene will appear on the screen after entering the main hall, showcasing the Beast at the top.
- Defeat the zombies in this area to gain XP and make the climb easier.
- Find the wooden platform after the cutscene ends. This platform is near the angel statue.
- Jump towards the ledge from the platform to hang.
- Move to the left and pass through the circular ledge. You will find a break in the wall over here.
3.2 Climb up the Church

Head to the altar and look to your left to locate a scaffolding. Once you climb up the church, head to the train tunnel to locate the Beast.
- Jump to the gap to hang on the other ledge after turning around.
- Keep moving to the left with the fall and get into the balcony once you move to the other side.
- Move to the mid area and go to the round platform.
- Drop a ladder to get back up when you lose a step after moving to the other side.
- Get ready to run and jump onto the hanging rope after landing.
- Swing the rope to land on the platform opposite the balcony by using the momentum.
- Jump onto the other wooden platform on the right.
- Travel upward after getting to the wall center.
- Spot the small wooden platform after ascending. This will take you to the rooftop of the church.
- Get ready to initiate the next and final section of the quest after exiting.
4. Enter Train Tunnels

Proceed to the train tunnels, marked by glow sticks. Move to the path across the tracks and eliminate the infected while passing through.
- Move to the south of the church to make your way to the train tunnels.
- You can’t pass through the tunnel from the surface, so you need to go down.
- Find the train tracks from outside the tunnel.
- You will move to the mysterious structure by following the tracks.
- Use the Survivor Sense to locate the door.
- Find the body in front of it and interact with it to open the door.
- Get inside the large room and follow the path to get to the open area.
4.1 Encounter with the Beast
Explore Tunnels
Keep moving in the train tunnel, and you will encounter the Beast for a brief moment.
- Defeat the zombies in this area to gain XP.
- Continue moving to the path after opening the marked crate.
- Activate the Survivor Sense and navigate in a linear direction to find the bloody door.
- The Beast attacks you, and a soldier detonates a grenade after you’re thrown out of the area.
- A cutscene will appear, where you use the walkie-talkie to inform Jacob that the Beast is still out there.
5. Complete The Beast Within Quest
Escape the Tunnels
After the confrontation, a cave-in blocks your way forward. You must retrace your path and push through the tunnels to escape to the surface. Speed and awareness are crucial here, as zombies and even a Volatile will stand in your way.
Steps to escape the tunnels:
- After speaking with Jacob, watch the cutscene showing zombies approaching.
- As soon as control returns, a Volatile drops in front of you — immediately start running.
- Head back the same way you entered, following the narrow hallways toward the cave structure.
- Use traversal abilities like Dash to move faster and maintain distance from enemies.
- Dodge common zombies and weave around Volatiles to avoid being cornered.
- Keep pushing forward until you reach the cave exit and emerge safely to the surface.
Upon finishing The Beast Within quest, you will earn +10,000 XP to boost your progression, +500 Old World Money for purchasing gear and supplies, and a Co-Op Lootpack if you complete the mission in co-op mode.
