Hydraulic Pistons are one of the most important crafting materials in Dune: Awakening. You’ll need them to build Mk5 engines for vehicles like the Sandbike, Buggy, and Ornithopter. There are three ways to get your hands on this resource. This guide shows you the best farming locations, vendors, and trade options to collect them quickly.
1. Where to Find Hydraulic Pistons from the Edge of Acheron
The main location for the Hydraulic Pistons to spawn is at the Edge of Acheron, an enemy stronghold in northern Sheol. Most of Sheol is covered in radiation, so it’s better to have a Radiation Suit equipped. Edge of Acheron is a PvP zone with more high-level enemies, and your best bet is to clear the stronghold and then loot all chests.
NOTE: The Edge of Acheron is a PvP zone in Sheol. You will be engaging with tougher enemies along with other rival players.
1.1 Edge of Acheron Drop Location
Edge of Acheron is one of the key locations in Northern Sheol to help you find Hydraulic Pistons in Dune: Awakening. The stronghold contains different chests, with the pistons needed for making Mk5 vehicle engines.
- Hydraulic Pistons spawn inside the chests within the Edge of Acheron.
- Eliminate any threat or activate the shield and sprint to loot the chests.
- There are three chests in this stronghold. One constellation chest and two side chests.
- You can open the side chests on the go.
- For the constellation chest, you must get the ID badge in the middle of the structure.
- Use the ID badge at the constellation chest to get access and loot the pistons.
1.2 Survival Tips for PvP Farming
- Since the Edge of Acheron is a PvP zone in Sheol, go with at least a couple of friends to raid the stronghold.
- Wear a Radiation Suit; Sheol’s radiation makes travel difficult.
- Equip better weapons and armor to eliminate the enemies and any rival players in the stronghold.
2. Best Strongholds for Hydraulic Piston Farming
After you’ve cleared Edge of Acheron, you can also raid these three stronghold locations in Hagga Basin to farm Hydraulic Pistons. These locations are also PvP zones, so you should come prepared to eliminate enemies.
- The Beast’s Claw (Mysa Tarill)
- Passage of Artemis (Western Shield Wall)
- The Aegis (Western Shield Wall)
All three of these strongholds are not that far from each other, especially if you have an Ornithopter for traveling. Raid all these strongholds in a single run for a better outcome and a good number of pistons.
2.1 Farming the Beast’s Claw (Mysa Tarill)
The Beast’s Claw is a small enemy stronghold located at the western edge of Mysa Tarill. There will be a few groups of Harkonnen Soldiers around the outpost. The outpost has three chests in total: 2 side chests and 1 constellation chest.
- Eliminate the enemies at the entrance and make your way towards the main gate to find the first chest beside the gate.
- Continue ahead in the outpost and go up to the main hall.
- Pick up the ID Badge from the table in the main hall to open the constellation chest.
- Now, head down the staircase and turn left to find the constellation chest.
- The last side chest is in the room on the right.
- Loot all three chests to gather a decent number of Hydraulic Pistons.
2.2 How to Clear Passage of Artemis
The Passage of Artemis is a small enemy stronghold located on the northern side of the Western Shield Wall. If you are someone who has completed the Mentat Advanced Trainer questline, you might be familiar with this outpost. There are three chests for you to loot in this outpost, including a constellation chest.
- Eliminate the enemies at the entrance gate before heading inside through the main gate.
- Enter through the main gate and go into the room on the left side to find the first chest.
- Now, go to the main hall ahead and eliminate all enemies.
- Head up the staircase on the right and enter the room on the left side.
- Pick up the ID Badge in the room and loot the second side chest.
- Head out of the room and continue along the same side to find a staircase on your right.
- Head down the staircase to find the constellation chest.
2.3 The Aegis Strategy and Chest Locations
The Aegis is a bigger stronghold with two towers located on the eastern edge of the Western Shield Wall. It is one of the difficult outposts in the game due to stronger enemies. There are multiple chests in this outpost, including the constellation chest.
- There is a tower on the right side of the stronghold, land on it using an Ornithopter.
- Head inside the tower and eliminate enemies in the main hall.
- Go up the staircase on the right and enter the room on the left to find the ID Badge.
- Loot the side chest in the same room as the ID Badge.
- Now, head out and go down the staircase to find the Constellation Chest. Be aware of the mines here. It is best to activate the shield before crossing through the mines.
- Head out and go to the top of the tower to find another side chest.
3. How to Buy Hydraulic Pistons in Dune: Awakening
Dune: Awakening has different mechanics that let you buy required resources if you don’t like grinding. Purchase the items you need and continue your journey on Arrakis.
- Purchase from vendors
- Purchase from the Exchange Auction House
- Trade with other players
Using vendors and trading lets you acquire the required number of pistons. This helps avoid the risk of losing your items in PvP.
3.1 Vendor Prices and Locations
Vendors are NPCs available for trading at Tradeposts and main faction strongholds. Tradeposts are the main hubs where players can take contracts, fast travel, and trade. There are four Tradeposts in Hagga Basin, which include Griffin’s Reach, The Anvil, Pinnacle Station, and The Crossroads Tradepost.
- Two vendors sell Hydraulic Pistons in Dune: Awakening.
- Zoe in The Crossroads Tradepost.
- Kahraman Reis in Harko Village.
- They both sell it for 3,500 Solari per piece.
3.2 Using the Exchange Auction House
Exchange is a big virtual open market in Dune: Awakening. It allows all players to buy and sell items on the marketplace. Use Exchange to buy pistons and sell your duplicate resources to make some extra money. However, you will have to reach a certain point in-game to access the Exchange.
- Access the Exchange from the Social Hubs, like Harko Village and Arrakeen.
- Check if anyone is selling Hydraulic Pistons at the Exchange.
- The prices for each item vary from world to world.
- Purchase the pistons that are set at the lowest price and try selling unused resources.
TIP: Purchasing pistons from the Exchange can cost you more due to high prices. However, it is a safer option than raiding strongholds if you need a small number and have enough Solari to spare.
3.3 Trading with Guild Members and Friends
Trading with your teammates is another way to get resources for your vehicles. Also, try talking to your guild members and trading with them in exchange for resources they might need.
- Trading is a much better option than purchasing from the Exchange, especially if you are a part of a guild.
- You can trade with your friends for a piston or with other guild players.
NOTE: Exercise caution if you are trading with an unknown player. It will help you avoid getting scammed and losing any valuable.

4.2 How to Craft Tri-Forged Hydraulic Pistons
As you progress in Dune: Awakening, you will unlock better vehicles with higher-tier pistons. Tri-forged Hydraulic Pistons are used to create Mk6 engines for vehicles and are used in the plastanium tier. There are different ways to get these pistons, including Deep Desert, Landsraad reward, and Advanced Survival Fabricator.
- Tri-forged Hydraulic Piston is a crucial component for crafting end-game engines for vehicles.
- The main method to get it is through the wrecks and caves within the Deep Desert.
