Dragon's Dogma 2 | How to Enter Battahl With or Without an Entry PermitDragon’s Dogma 2 is a massive, expansive RPG filled with monsters to fight and treasure to loot across a vast open world. You’ll begin your journey in the forested wilds of Vermund but there are several other areas to explore, including the nation of Battahl to the south. This region is where most of Dragon’s Dogma’s regional diversity will become apparent, with unique enemies and locales you won’t see in quaint Vermund.

However, getting into Battahl is tricky. Because of tensions between the two nations, the coming and going of people between Vermund and Battahl is heavily monitored and scrutinised. As such, you’ll need to be a little tricksy to get into Battahl. Fortunately, there are two main methods of entry – one requires story progression in order to earn a rare Entry Permit, while the other requires you to strap on your boots and go hiking through the deadly border – which you can learn more about in this guide.

Here’s how to gain entry into Battahl and get your hands on a Battahl Border Entry Permit in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Battahl Border Gate Entry Location

The gate barring entry into Battahl is located in the Checkpoint Rest Town. You’ll find this area to the far west of Vermund past Harve Village. This small town is intended as a rest stop for merchants and travellers, meaning that there are only a few things to see and do while you’re here.

However, if you happen to stumble across this place before gaining permission, you’re in for a nasty surprise. Entry to the rocky wastes of Battahl is sealed by a gigantic iron gate, one which cannot be opened unless you impress the nearby guards with your credentials and, unfortunately, they aren’t in a bartering mood. Unless you have the elusive and rare Border Entry Permit, you cannot open the gate no matter what, stopping you from progressing forward.

As luck would have it though, there are two ways to get into Battahl. One involves getting your hands on a Border Entry Permit, whereas the other involves sneaking around through a secluded and dangerous back path.

How to Get a Battahl Border Entry Permit in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The first way to gain entry into Battahl is to obtain a Border Entry Permit. The only way of obtaining this item is to progress the main campaign until a certain point. To be more specific, you need to play through the story until you complete the quest Feast of Deception, which is given to you by General Brant.

For this quest to appear, you’ll need to complete roughly three of Brant’s other quests to prove to raise your status within Vernworth. These will become available after the main story quest Seat of the Sovran, the quest where you first gain entry into Vernworth. From then on, you can meet with General Brant every night at The Stardrop Inn to check on your progress or accept new quests. Speaking, the quests you must complete to obtain the permit are:

  • Disa’s Plot
  • Monster Culling
  • The Caged Magistrate
  • The Nameless Village
  • An Unsettling Encounter
  • The Stolen Throne

After completing several of these quests, a new option to talk to Brant about the false Sovran’s coronation will become available. To attend the coronation, you’ll need to procure a set of Courtly Clothes so that you at least look the part. Once you’re ready, speak to Brant and choose to go through the coronation. Upon returning from the Vermund Palace and speaking to Brant again, he’ll inform you that you need to go to Battahl to discover the source of the Sovran’s new power, the Godsway.

To this end, Brant will provide you with a Battahl Border Entry Permit, allowing select individuals access to Vermund’s twin nation.

Where to Find the Beastren Mask

With the Battahl Border Entry Permit in your inventory, you just need to head to the Checkpoint Rest Town where the border between Vermund and Battahl lies, flash the Permit to the guards in front of the gate, and entry will be yours. Of course, things are never that simple.  For many players, Brant will only be able to get ahold of a Beastren Border Entry Permit which, as the name applies, only allows Beastren entry into Battahl

If your Arsien happens to be Beastren, there are no problems whatsoever and you can enter Battahl with zero issues. For human Arisen, though, this is a big challenge as you still won’t be able to enter Battahl, even if the Permit is on your person. To get around this, you’ll need a disguise which lets you pretend to be Beastren which, fortunately, can also be found in the Checkpoint Rest Town.

After arriving in Checkpoint Rest Town, head past the inn and you’ll find a shady hidden vendor called Ibrahim’s Scrap Store. Usually, this vendor will allow you to make duplicates and forgeries of items in your inventory but, the first time you enter Checkpoint Rest Town, Ibrahim will also be selling the Beastren Mask for 8,700 Gold. While it’s a pretty steep cost, at least early game, it is well worth it for several reasons.

Firstly, equipping the mask in your head slot will allow you to take on the appearance of a Beastren, fulfilling the requirements of the Beastren Border Entry Permit. Now, so long as the Beastren Mask is equipped, you can wander in and out of the Checkpoint Rest Town gate as often as you like. Secondly, the Beastren Mask is also useful for several other quests in Bakkabattahl, the capital of Battahl, so you’ll want to grab it in the future.

With both the Battahl Border Entry Permit and the Beastren Mask in your possession, you can finally enter Battahl and continue your Arisen’s journey to reclaim their heart. But what if you don’t have the time to earn the Permit and just want to rush into Battahl? Well, you’re in luck.

How to Enter Battahl Without a Permit in Dragon’s Dogma 2

With both the Battahl Border Entry Permit and the Beastren Mask in your possession, you can finally enter Battahl and continue your Arisen’s journey to reclaim their heart. But what if you don’t have the time to earn the Permit and just want to rush into Battahl? Well, you’re in luck because there is a second, slightly deadlier, path into Battahl that payers can take.

Continue on the same path as the first method until you reach Checkpoint Rest Town where the border to Battahl is. However, before crossing the bridge into town, have a look over the edge and you’ll find a dried-out riverbed. Following this riverbed will eventually lead you to a dark, damp cave filled to the gills with Saurians, all of whom will attack you with reckless abandon.

After clearing out the Saurians, you’ll be able to exit the cave via a broken slope that you need to jump onto. From there, simply continue on the straight and narrow, fending off any baddies who try to come your way. There are also several useful treasure chests on this path, including one which contains a powerful Bow for Archers which deals ludicrous damage to Griffins. Be wary of travelling through here, though, as it will likely be raining, leaving all the surfaces slick and wet.

Eventually, after a moderate hike through the wet valleys of the border, you’ll arrive in the rocky mountains of Battahl’s desert. This a separate area from where you’d enter via the gate and it’s a lot more dangerous, with both a Griffin and a Drake being nearby. However, from here, you can explore Battalh to your heart’s content. Especially with that extra space in your pockets now that you won’t have the Entry Permit bogging it down.

This route into Battahl is a double-edged sword in many ways. On one hand, it’s a way to quickly and efficiently get into Battahl without needing to sit through the story, allowing you to b-line it for many of the more powerful optional Vocations, such as Magick Archer or Warfarer, as soon as possible. On the other, this path is incredibly treacherous and you’ll need to go back through this path every time you want to enter or leave Battahl because the Checkpoint Rest Town gate won’t open, even if you’re already in Battahl.

Those were both methods for how to get into Battalh in Dragon’s Dogma 2 whether you have a Border Entry Permit or not.
