Crimson Desert All Factions Guide: How to Earn Reputation and Best Rewards

Crimson Desert features 110 factions across Pywel, each with a five-tier reputation scale ranging from War to Alliance. This guide covers every named faction, how to climb their ranks, how regional Contribution works, and every reward table available from Hernand to Varnia.

Crimson Desert Factions Guide All Factions, How to Earn Reputation, and Best RewardsThe faction and reputation system in Crimson Desert is one of the broadest in Pearl Abyss’s history. Spread across 110 distinct factions of Pywel, your standing with each group shapes the world around you: which vendors serve you, which guards tolerate you, and which troops fight alongside you.

This guide breaks down every named faction, the full Contribution system, and the complete reward tables for each region.

1. How Reputation Works in Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert tracks your relationship with every faction using a five-tier reputation scale. Understanding where you stand and what each tier unlocks is the foundation of the entire system, and it is worth getting familiar with before pursuing any specific faction.

1.1. The Five Reputation Tiers

The tiers run from lowest to highest: War, Hostile, Neutral, Friendly, and Alliance. Most factions start at Neutral when you first encounter them. War and Hostile factions are actively working against you, and will attack on sight or impose penalties. Alliance is the peak relationship and unlocks the most substantial benefits.

Reaching an Alliance with a faction grants three major advantages:

  • Allied troops: Faction soldiers will assist you in combat within their territory.
  • Exclusive vendors: Merchants carrying items not sold anywhere else.
  • Restricted resource nodes: Mining deposits, ingredient patches, and secret dungeons that only Allied players can access.

1.2. Reputation and the Main Story

Your faction standings do not determine the main story ending in Crimson Desert. Pearl Abyss explicitly confirmed that factions are significant actors in the plot and provide substantial quest content, but they do not alter the narrative destination. The outcome of Kliff’s journey through Pywel is fixed.

What reputation shapes is the world state: which NPCs are available, which questlines open up, and how expensive goods become in territories you have wronged. Think of it as the game’s living social layer rather than a branching narrative device.

2. All Notable Factions

Crimson Desert features 110 distinct factions operating across the continent of Pywel, ranging from mercenary bands and noble houses to goblin guilds, military organizations, cults, and mystical guardians.

Seven of those factions have named storylines tied directly to major questlines, characters, and territory control. These are the ones worth pursuing strategically.

2.1. Greymanes

The Greymanes are Kliff’s own faction and the only one that starts at Friendly by default. Because of this head start, they are also the first faction where Alliance is realistically achievable early in the game.

To reach Alliance with the Greymanes, progress the main story, liberate Greymane-controlled territories, and return scattered Greymane members to camp. Alliance unlocks the most capable allied troops in the game, Greymane faction vendors, and restricted resource nodes tied to Howling Hill and surrounding territories.

2.2. House Celeste

House Celeste begins at Neutral. Liberating Roothold from Gwen Kraber’s Forces advances the relationship to Friendly, and completing further House Celeste quests after that pushes it to Alliance.

Alliance with House Celeste rewards:

  • Armory access: Exclusive equipment not available through standard vendors.
  • Political contacts in Demeniss: Unlocks quests and social options unavailable to players at a lower standing.

House Celeste is one of the most valuable diplomatic investments for players pushing into the Demeniss region.

2.3. Goldleaf Merchants Guild

The Goldleaf Merchants Guild starts at Neutral. The Goldleaves goblin merchant guild is suppressed by the tyrant Kailok. Defeating Kailok the Hornsplitter at Unicorn Cliffs automatically raises your Goldleaves reputation to Friendly.

Shakatu’s merchant quests then advance standing to Alliance, unlocking access to the guild’s unique trading network and rare material imports from outside Pywel.

Alliance with the Goldleaf Merchants Guild opens:

  • A unique trading network with access to rare imported goods.
  • Exclusive merchants carrying items sourced outside Pywel’s standard supply chains.

For players investing heavily in the trade wagon and economy systems, the Goldleaves Guild Alliance is effectively mandatory.

2.4. Black Bears

The Black Bears are Myurdin’s faction and serve as the story’s antagonists. They begin at Hostile or War, and while the main story requires confronting them, there is no standard questline to improve that standing.

Treat the Black Bears as combat targets for the majority of the game.

2.5. Wolf Trackers

The Wolf Trackers also start at Hostile or War standing. Like the Black Bears, they operate as opponents rather than potential allies for most of the playthrough. Theoretical de-escalation is possible within the reputation system, but no dedicated questline drives that progression.

2.6. Gwen Kraber’s Forces

Gwen Kraber’s Forces are locked at Hostile or War for the vast majority of players. Defeating Gwen Kraber’s hold over Roothold is actually a prerequisite for improving standing with House Celeste, making this faction a conflict target rather than a diplomatic opportunity.

2.7. Desert Cult

The Desert Cult is at Hostile or War and lacks a documented path to de-escalation. Treat encounters with Desert Cult members as combat situations and do not expect neutral trading options to become available through normal play.

3. The Contribution System

Reputation with a faction in Crimson Desert is tracked globally, but Contribution is a separate, region-locked score. Doing good deeds in Hernand will not improve your reputation one bit in Demeniss, and likewise, committing crimes in one region will not cause folk in another region to think less of you.

Each level of Contribution requires 100 points, and you receive 1 Contribution Point to spend per level reached. Points spent at one region’s shop cannot be recovered for use in another.

3.1. How to Earn Contribution

Contribution grows through active engagement with regional life. The methods below are listed from largest to smallest XP yield:

  • Liberate strongholds: This awards a massive Contribution XP boost and is the single largest single-action gain in the system.
  • Complete local side quests and faction commissions: Faction quests are the best way to farm Contribution Points because they give the most points in the least time possible.
  • Complete bounties: Bounties are generally short objectives and reward a great deal of Contribution XP, making them one of the fastest methods, alongside faction quests.
  • Donate copper coins to beggars: You can give coins to beggars to earn progression toward your Contribution level. Since you can give coins to beggars once a day, you can steadily earn Contribution points. Once their trust is maxed out, they will occasionally give you loot, such as Bread.

3.2. How to Lose Contribution

Contribution has a downside: criminal behavior directly reduces your score. Two actions carry the steepest penalties:

  • Theft: -5 Contribution per stolen item
  • Assault or Murder: -30 Contribution per NPC killed

Losing Contribution below a region’s threshold triggers concrete penalties: merchant prices rise, guards become hostile, and certain quests and restricted areas become inaccessible. Recovering from a low score requires sustained legitimate activity, so avoiding theft and unnecessary NPC kills is strongly advised.

3.3. How to Spend Contribution

There are two ways to spend Contribution in Crimson Desert. First, you can spend it at Contribution Shops, which sell valuable armor, weapons, and other rare items generally better than those from a blacksmith or found in the open world.

Second, you can spend Contribution to hire workers for your homestead to help with gathering supplies for crafting, ingredients for cooking, and acquiring more Silver.

If you are not satisfied with a purchase, you can sell Contribution items back to the vendor and have all currency returned to you. Contribution shops do not accept items that were not originally purchased with Contribution.

3.4. Pooled Regions

Not every settlement maintains its own independent pool. Two regions share Contribution with a parent zone:

  • Scholastone draws from the Hernand pool. XP earned in either area feeds the same total.
  • Tommaso and Varnia both draw from the Tashkalp pool. Progress made in any of these three locations contributes to the same score.

This means prioritizing Hernand’s side quests benefits your Scholastone standing simultaneously, and work done in Tashkalp carries over to both Tommaso and Varnia vendors.

4. Contribution Rewards by Region

Each region’s Contribution vendors sell cosmetic and equipment items in exchange for your accumulated Contribution points. The tables below list every item and its cost.

Note that Pailune requires liberation before its Contribution shop becomes accessible, and Delesyia requires a Visione before vendor access opens. The Hernand shop is managed by the vendor Haldwin, found inside Hernand Castle.

5. Best Strategies to Get Contributions

With 110 factions and multiple Contribution pools running simultaneously, spreading effort evenly is rarely efficient. A focused approach yields faster Alliance standings and better vendor access earlier in the game.

5.1. Early Game Priority

The Hernand pool covers both Hernand and Scholastone, making it the highest-return region to focus on first. Every side quest and faction commission completed there feeds two vendor pools at once.

Target the Hernandian Signet (65 pts) and Crown (70 pts) as benchmark goals since reaching them confirms your Contribution is deep enough to unlock most other items in the pool.

Liberate Hernand-area strongholds as early as possible. Stronghold liberation delivers the largest single Contribution XP gain available, and completing them early compresses the time needed to unlock mid-tier rewards.

Hernand Commissions.

5.2. Mid Game Priority

Liberating Pailune is a hard prerequisite before the region’s Contribution shop becomes accessible. Until liberation, no Contribution points spent in Pailune convert into vendor access, so the liberation quest comes first.

For players pursuing the Goldleaves Guild Alliance, defeating Kailok the Hornsplitter at Unicorn Cliffs should happen during natural story progression through Pailune. Defeating him unlocks Friendly standing, placing you halfway to Alliance before you have even touched the Shakatu questline.

The Demeniss pools (Castle and City) share the same Contribution score but are spread across three separate shops. Work done anywhere in Demeniss benefits access to all of them.

5.3. Late Game Priority

The Tashkalp pool serves both Tommaso and Varnia simultaneously, similar to Hernand and Scholastone. Save concentrated Tashkalp activity for the mid-to-late game when both settlements are accessible, and run commissions in both locations to maximize XP per session.

Delesyia’s Visione requirement means vendor access is gated by a specific story condition. Do not neglect Delesyian side quests before meeting that requirement. Building Contribution before the gate opens means the vendor is immediately fully stocked once you qualify.

5.4. How to Protect Your Score

A single theft run can cost 25 Contribution points (5 stolen items at -5 each), and five unprovoked NPC kills wipe 150 points. If you are close to a key reward threshold, avoid any criminal activity in that region until after purchase. The beggar donation method (+1 per coin) is slow but risk-free and useful for closing the last few points toward a target without taking on quests.

For House Celeste and Greymane Alliance, keep guard-related crime to an absolute minimum in Hernand and Demeniss. Guard kills register as NPC murders and carry the full -30 penalty per kill, which can set back hours of quest progress.

6. Best Factions Tips

The following tips apply across all regions and factions regardless of progression stage.

  • Liberate strongholds first in any new region. The XP burst accelerates every other milestone.
  • Complete bounties alongside faction quests. Both are generally short and reward a great deal of Contribution XP, making them the fastest combined method for earning points.
  • Pursue the Goldleaves Guild path early. The Alliance trading network and access to rare imports pay dividends throughout the mid- and late-game.
  • The Tashkalp pool is the most efficient late-game investment because a single questline session benefits both Tommaso and Varnia vendors simultaneously.
  • You can sell Contribution gear back to the vendor for a full refund, so do not be afraid to buy items early, even if your priorities change later.
  • Scholastone Cap (17 pts) and Boots (15 pts) are among the cheapest mid-tier rewards in the game and are unlocked simply by doing Hernand’s main activity.
  • Alliance with the Greymanes is the default long-term goal and requires no special detour. Staying on the main story and completing regional liberations naturally completes it.
  • If you’re being hunted or have a Bounty on your head, go to the nearest Church of the region and buy a Writ of Absolution to clear them.
