Recently, the official YouTube channel for the Pokémon team released a tribute video for the characters of Ash and Pikachu after they were retired from the television show. It was a nice and surreal video to showcase the timeless classic adventure of the two protagonists over the 25 years that they tried to be the very best that they could be.
Today, we are going to look at the infamous series in the television show’s lore that was the XY series…and rediscover the 25 cutest moments of Pikachu throughout that series. Ash and Pikachu had made some great friends in that series as well as some great memories. With that being said, to honor their 25 seasons as a team… here is my list of the top 25 moments where Pikachu was at his cutest throughout the Pokémon XY series.
Pikachu Giving Wigglytuff Confidence
This is for sure my personal number one cute moment in the XY series when it comes to Pikachu. It captures his warmth and compassion for others perfectly. Throughout the entire episode (The Clumsy Crier Quiets the Chaos!) Wigglytuff, one of the nurses at the Pokémon Center, is having a very rough day trying to keep up with the patients that are coming into the facility (mainly because of Team Rocket.)
All the members of Ash’s gang try to cheer up Wigglytuff, including Pikachu. He tries to have a heart-to-heart conversation with Wigglytuff, trying to tell Wigglytuff that everything is going to be okay. And at the very end of the episode, when Wigglytuff begins to cry once again…Pikachu leaps into Wigglytuff’s arms, and wipes away a tear from the lower part of Wigglytuff’s eye, as to say, “We don’t do that anymore. Everything is going to be alright.” Very sweet and touching moment indeed.
Pikachu Saying Hello Through The Video Phone
In the last episode of the series (besides the history of the Kalos region episode,) Pikachu couldn’t contain himself when talking with Professor Oak and Ash’s mother over the video phone. He presses his face against the glass to say hello to them. This was a very cute and sweet moment in the series because, after all of the events that had unfolded, it was great to see Pikachu still in high spirits.
Pikachu Dresses Up Like A Psyduck
When Ash and the gang arrive at a new town, they are told about the Gourgeist Festival that is currently happening within the area. What occurs at this festival are things like receiving candy from others, and dressing up in costumes. With the help of Serena making the costumes, the gang dresses up as other characters within the Pokemon universe.
Psyduck is the one that Pikachu dresses up as. It was cute when Serena would tell Pikachu that he would have to lower his ears to look more like a Psyduck, and Pikachu did while appearing to say to her, “Like this?”
Meet Ninja Pikachu
In A Rush of Ninja Wisdom! When a ninja named Sanpei decides to help Ash and Froakie train better for Pokémon battles, Bonnie, Dedenne, and Pikachu decide to have some fun as a group of ninjas. This was obviously inspired by Sanpei’s presence seeing as he himself is a ninja. The three throughout the episode have cute and wonderful interactions where they play around pretending to be ninjas themselves.
I must say, Bonnie and Dedenne was also super cute in these scenes as well. Bonnie would throw leaves at Pikachu and Dedenne like they were Chinese stars, and Dedenne was looking adorable in his own right. Also, Pikachu’s ninja attire really suited him nicely.
Bonnie Wiping Pikachu’s Face
When Bonnie and Clemont first meet Ash and Pikachu… it is revealed that Bonnie likes keeping Pokémon clean, and one of the ways is to wipe them with a piece of cloth. She performs this action on Pikachu, who adorably squirms in her arms. Afterward, Pikachu shakes his head and thanks her. This moment is not only warm but also cute as well. It also showcases the friendship that Bonnie and Pikachu will have later down the road.
It’s Super Pikachu!
In the XY series, there is an entire episode devoted to the Pikachu species. While Ash’s gang stumbles on the set of a movie being filmed with nothing but Pikachu’s as the cast, the director (an avid fan of Pikachu’s) wants to put Ash’s Pikachu in the movie as the lead good guy.
Ash and the others help the director and his assistant produce the film. With Clemont working on the screenplay. Pikachu plays a superhero in the episode and does a really good job at it. While wearing his superhero outfit, he exudes maximum cuteness.
Pikachu Rides A Conveyor Belt In The Pokémon Factory
The only reason why Ash was able to defeat Team Rocket in this episode is the fact that Pikachu refuses to go into his Pokeball. When Team Rocket captured all of the gang’s Pokémon and placed Ash, Clemont, Bonnie, and Serena in a room with an air-tight steel door locking them inside…Pikachu was only placed in a glass container which he was able to escape from.
Ash directs Pikachu to go get the briefcase of the other Pokémon, and Pikachu enters a vent. The entire moment of Pikachu breaking the vent door on the other side of the wall, and leaping onto the conveyor belt is priceless. There is a brief moment where you see him riding the conveyor belt shortly after entering the room with Pokeballs on the line. He looks so cute in this sequence.
Pikachu Makes A Cameo Appearance In Serena’s Cooking Video
During the events in the episode A Pokévision of Things to Come! Serena is working on a video with her Pokémon partner Fennekin. While they are shooting the segment where they do some baking, Pikachu makes a cameo role in the video to assist them.
What makes this moment even cuter when it comes to Pikachu is that you don’t expect him to be involved in it whatsoever. But, there he is with his chef outfit on ready to help out the two with their baking needs. Well…until he accidentally drops the bowl of powdered sugar onto Fennekin.
The Kindergarteners That Petted Pikachu’s Tail
Shortly after Bonnie wiped Pikachu’s face with a piece of cloth for the first time, she discovered that he enjoys getting his tail petted. When the gang met up with a group of kindergartner children…she told this to them, and Pikachu let out a cute squeal of satisfaction as the kids petted his tail.
Pikachu Learns To Dance
You have to admire Pikachu’s spunk, and that is what you get in the episode Battling into the Hall of Fame! One of the trainers there at summer camp decides to teach Ash and his Pokémon how to perform a dance tactic during battle.
Once Tierno wants to get started, it doesn’t take Pikachu a second thought to begin the training. He hops down from Ash’s shoulder and begins to practice shuffling alongside Squirtle. Pikachu is seen doing only a few dance moves, but it is so cute nonetheless.
Pikachu And Ash Say Hi To The Kalos Region
When Ash and Pikachu first arrive at their new destination, the Kalos Region, the two shout a greeting to the area regarding their arrival at the place. I thought this was super cute how Pikachu yelled right with Ash. It shows their bond immensely with one another that they are ready for yet another adventure in a different uncharted territory they haven’t yet explored.
Pikachu Gets Shiny By Goomy
When the gang is heading towards Coumarine City, a Goomy falls on Ash’s head and eventually joins them. When Team Rocket captures both Pikachu and Goomy inside a small steel cage…Pikachu shows great courage for Goomy. Pikachu is trying to get out of the cage for both Pokémon, hurting himself in the process.
I really enjoyed how Pikachu would take the time to tell Goomy that they would get out of the cage if they kept trying. Once the bars were separated enough for Goomy to escape, it was Pikachu’s turn. Unfortunately, it was still a tight squeeze for Pikachu. Goomy then has an idea to polish Pikachu up with his slime. The way Pikachu was very happy about this was so cute. This whole scene of the two Pokémon trying to escape the cage was beyond cute.
Pichu and Pikachu Eat An Apple
While trying to find Dedenne who was mistakenly taken by a girl instead of a Pichu…the two electrotype Pokémon bond by eating an apple after Pikachu decided to go and get two that were up in a tree. The gesture was very cute. Right before this, the two Pokémon were chasing each other around before Pichu eyed the tree that contained the apples. It showed a family-like kindship between the two that only two cute electrotypes can display.
Pikachu Gets His Hopes Up At Clemont’s Invention
In the episode, So You’re Having A Bad Day! The gang is split up, and Clemont’s share of the team tries to find the others by any means necessary. This leads to Clemont unveiling his newest invention that will no doubt find the others in the woods. Upon hearing this, Pikachu is overwhelmed with the sheer level of excitement that consumes his body. It is so cute watching him get happy about the invention. It doesn’t work out for Clemont and the Pokémon that is with him…but it was still cute all the same.
Pikachu Plays In A Pile Of Leaves
In the very first episode of the XYZ season, Bonnie, Dedenne, and Pikachu were going to take some R&R by jumping into a pile of leaves. The three begin to laugh as they lay on the pile. All three of them are having a blast, including Pikachu. This is a great way to start the last season of the series because this is when everything begins to get intense as a group of people with glasses (Team Flare) tries to kidnap Squishy for sinister reasons.
Receiving A Gift
After the hard-fought battle against the grass-type gym leader, Ramos, Ash is told by him that the city (Coumarine City) has a celebration near a big tree (the pledging tree) as fireworks go off in the sky to strengthen the bond between trainer and Pokémon. It is at this celebration that the trainer gives a gift to his Pokémon.
So, Clemont, Serena, and Ash go off to get some. Ash has trouble finding a gift for his Pokémon until he decides to pick them a pile of the best berries he can find. Pikachu and the other Pokémon are thrilled to see the pile of berries as they eat them.
Pikachu Wears A Balloon During Training
After their first defeat at the hands of their first gym leader battle in Kalos in the episode Battling On Thin Ice! Ash, Pikachu, and Fletchling decide to train really hard for their rematch. In the training battle sequence, both Fletchling and Pikachu are seen wearing a balloon with a string tied around their midsection. Seeing Pikachu with a balloon around his waist is really cute, to say the least.
Pikachu Rubs His Face On A Towel
When Ash, Clemont, Bonnie, and Serena get lost they happen to stumble onto a creepy-looking building that they have dubbed the Scary House. An old man, Lon, welcomes them to his pad. He first gives them a towel each to wash off with. Ash wants to show Pikachu how soft the fabric of the towel is, who then rubs against the material. This is extremely cute because of the sound that Pikachu releases when he discovers just how soft the towel really is.
Pikachu and Dedenne Chase Each Other
Right before Serena, Fennekin, and Pancham are going to practice their performance routine as Ash and Bonnie act as their audience, you can see Pikachu and Dedenne chasing each other around on the Pokémon battlefield area. The playfulness of the two is too cute, as they make noises of delight sharing a moment of friendship.
Serena Holds Pikachu In Her Arms
When Bonnie, Clemont, Serena, and Pikachu are waiting for Ash and Greninja to finish their race against one another for maximum training…Pikachu is being held by Serena at the finish line. The way that he nonchalantly rests in her arms is adorable.
Pikachu Vs Sticky Web
While Pikachu and Fletchling are training for their rematch against Viola…they want to practice against all of their opponent’s attacks. One of these moves is the sticky web. Clemont, during the night training session, has an invention he wants to try out on the two Pokémon during their heated training regiment.
It shoots a sticky web onto the battlefield. Since this is one of the first of Clemont’s inventions that Pikachu is witnessing…he gets curious as to whether the stuff is really like a sticky web. How Pikachu does this is just sheer cuteness. How he bends down to touch it, and how once he sees that it’s very similar to a sticky web he tries to shake it off as to say, “Oh no…it’s real…it’s real.” Finally, having taken it off his paw, he lets out an adorable sigh of relief that it was off of him and was icing on the cake.
Pikachu Taps On The Cave Wall Of Mirrors
Having survived a near doom-like situation in an alternate universe, both Pikachu and Ash tap on the cave wall that once opened up a portal to the alternate universe. What makes this just an awe moment is that Ash taps on the cave wall, and then Pikachu follows suit. Showing their friendship through tough times even more.
Pikachu and Dedenne Get An Electric Shower
Clemont takes the gang to his old stomping ground, an academy, to show them his invention the “Clemontic Shower.” He tells both Dedenne and Pikachu to go into the machine to feel the recharge that it does for electrotype Pokémon. When they get inside, the two are greeted with a high dose of electricity that makes them so happy, that they start dancing around inside the machine.
Pikachu Helps Ramos Tend To His Garden
Once Ash reaches the Coumarine Gym to fight off against Ramos the gym leader there, he is met with a very passive Ramos who first wants the gang to enjoy some tea with him. Then, much to Ash’s chagrin, he requests that they tend to his garden. What makes this scene really special for Pikachu is that it displays how easy going he is. Someone asks him to help with their garden, he’s going to help.
The Joy Of Poke Puffs!
Ever since Serena introduced Pikachu to a batch of Poke Puffs from her picnic basket, he’s been hooked on them since then. Throughout the series, he can be spotted eating them with tremendous glee.
This is also the case in the episode A Full-Strength Battle Surprise! He and Dedenne are seen on top of a table chowing down on them as Ash and the rest have a conversation about Sawyer’s eight badges that he recently won in battle.
There you have it… my top 25 moments where Pikachu displayed sheer cuteness in the exciting XY series.
