The X film series continues with it’s third instalment, MaXXXine. Longlegs brings a Nic Cage horror and Oddity delivers award winning paranormal scares. MaXXXine
MaXXXine releases on 5th July to Cinemas.
The acclaimed slasher film series, X, continues with it’s third instalment, MaXXXine. The previous entries received numerous award nominations and wins. X won Best Horror Film at the Sunset Circle Awards and Pearl won Best Independent Film at the Saturn Awards to name just a couple. Furthermore the series star, Mia Goth (Suspiria, Infinity Pool), who co-wrote Pearl, reprises her role as Maxine Minx in the upcoming slasher. MaXXXine also comes a star-studded cast. Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian), Kevin Bacon (Footloose, Tremors), Halsey, Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown, The Night Manager) and Michelle Monaghan (Gone Baby Gone, Source Code).
The film is a direct sequel to X. Adult film actress Maxine returns to LA after surviving the murders on the Texas film shoot. Whilst she continues to in her dream of becoming a celebrity, she finds herself in the crosshairs of the Night Stalker in 1985.
Longlegs
Longlegs releases on 12th July to Cinemas.
Horror-Thriller Longlegs is next on our list of the biggest horror movies releasing this July. The film has already garnered high praise, with a glowing review from Bloody Disgusting and a average rating of 8.8/10 on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. Longlegs stars, and is produced by, the iconic Nicholos Cage, who plays a serial killer with occult leanings. Starring alongside Cage are Maika Monroe, known for her role in It Follows, as well as Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood and Kiernan Shipka.
Set in the 1990s, FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is put on the case of the mysterious and elusive serial killer referred to as Longlegs. Before long occult evidence is uncovered, which makes the investigation more complex and Harker must race against time to save the next family in line.
The Beast Within
The Beast Within releases on 22nd July to cinemas.
Fans of Game of Thrones will be delighted to see some of their favourite actors in this upcoming horror. Kit Harrington and James Cosmo, who played Jon Stark and Jeor Mormont respectively, star alongside each other. Award winning actress Ashleigh Cummings (Hounds of Love, Westside) and Martina McClements (Emmerdale, Hyperdrive) also feature in movie. It’s a strong cast of British actors with a classic werewolf premise, which is fitting for Harrington, so should be on the radar of horror fans.
The story follows 10-year-old Willow, played by Caoilinn Springall who lives in a compound deep in rural England. Though their live seems peaceful, she comes to question their strange live in their fortified home as she follows her parents into the old woods and uncovers their dark secret.
Oddity
Oddity releases on 19th July to cinemas.
The winner of the Audience Award for the Midnighter section of the South By Southwest and Overlook Film festivals is next up on our list of July’s biggest horror movies. Oddity is a paranormal horror written and directed by Damian McCarthy. Along with Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody, Fresh Meat) are stars Carolyn Bracken (The Gone, The Quiet Girl) and Tadhg Murphy (The Northman, Boy Eats Girl).
Oddity focuses on a curio shop owner, grieving the loss of her twin sister, and a blind medium. However, as she tries to uncover the truth of her sister’s murder, she comes across a life size wooden mannequin that is vital to her mission.
Dead Whisper
Dead Whisper releases on 5th July to VOD.
Last on our list is the upcoming tragic horror Dead Whisper. Although it’s the directorial debut for Conor Soucy this one looks ideal for the indie folk horror fans looking for interesting tale. Samuel Dunning (Blue Bloods, Tim Travers & the Time Travelers Paradox) and Tana Sirois (Blue Bloods, Beat) and Broadway actor and producer Rob Evan starring.
Dead Whisper follows Elliot Campbell, a lawyer in Cape Cod. He is drawn to a strange island, seeking for a reunion with his deceased daughter, no matter the cost. The reconnection won’t go as planned and he finds his very soul under threat.
