Your favorite games
I'm interested in seeing what are some of your must-play games overall. Retro, classic, new, what games would make your top five, maybe?
What games would you recommend someone new to gaming to try simply because of the joy they brought you?
From the top of my head, I'm thinking on Devil May Cry 3 (First DMC I played, as I'm sure a significant number of people did), the God of War trilogy, and Bioshock Infinite.
The God of War and Zelda games were instrumental in getting me into gaming. Their gameplay is deep enough to be engaging, but not obtuse or difficult in a way that would make them inaccessible.
If we're talking all-time favourite game, then it'd probably be a JRPG for me. It's a tossup between Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star IV, or one of the Legend of Heroes: Trails games (they're all so good). Out of those, I'd say Chrono Trigger is a really great game for newcomers to the genre.
The Last of Us is my favorite game of all time, which may change with Part II. While I love the gameplay, it is about the story and characters, how it all resonated with me and moved me.
@tristanzelden I've never been more terrified about a sequel more in my life....
I've platinumed TLOU on the PS3 and PS4. I love the game to death. But I'm scared
My absolute favourites are the Metal Gear Solid series and God of War. I just think they're exceptional franchises that do so much, so well.
Although...who'd win in a fight? 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔
Zelda OOT is in my number 1 spot. I haven't played it in about 11 years though, so I'm not sure if I deserve to keep it there lol.
I feel some conflict within me by not saying Dark Souls here since I've had such a meaningful affair with those games over the past number of years, but my number 1 for all time has been KotOR2 forever. Just the most creative, haunting engagement with and critique of a franchise that dropped during the explosive reign of the prequel-dom. To me it's more a monument than an actual game at this point.
This is such a difficult question to answer. One game I replay ever year is GTA: Vice City because the game's setting had a great effect on what video games meant to me at an early age. My lifelong love of 80s music and general fascination with 80s culture stems from this game. I'd also have to give Total War: Shogun 2 and Jak 2 a shout as well.
So tough. As much as I hate to be this way, my tops are a lot of those considered the best by the mainstream. GTA V, RDR 2, The Last of Us, NCAA Football 14, and Until Dawn. There are so many others though that can be up there.
Gosh, I always feel like I'm forgetting a game or two when I answer this question. Breath of the Wild definitely holds top spot in my heart, but I have to include TLOU, Super Mario Galaxy and the Bioshock trilogy--it doesn't feel right putting them in any another place other than first, so they'll just have to share the spot.
In no particular order (besides the top 3, those are my top 3):
1. Mass Effect 3
2. Persona 4 Golden
3. Paper Mario
4. Metroid Prime
5. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
6. Dragon Age II
7. Sunset Overdrive
8. Tales from the Borderlands
9. Monster Hunter World
10. Life is Strange 2
1. Pokemon series
I've probably sunk the most hours into these games since childhood and they have one of the only online multiplayer modes I actually use
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
The third spot changes depending on what's wowed me the most at the time, but right now I might give it to Death Stranding.
