HD Video Converter Factory Pro (Review)

The HD Video Converter Factory Pro from WonderFox Soft may sound like a mouthful, but it is by far the fastest video converter I’ve ever used. On top of that, it is easy and quick to maneuver for both professionals and amateurs alike. The program is packed with useful features, options, and virtually every video format available for conversion.  While the price may be an issue for some users, they do offer a completely free version of the software which still gets the job done but is missing many of the best features of the product.

The HD Video Converter Factory Pro is currently available for Windows.

The Good

The user interface is very well designed and incredibly simple and easy to navigate even for beginners. As well, the converter is incredibly easy to use and the process was self-explanatory. For novice computer users, no instructions are really necessary to operate the software and sometimes all that is needed is 5 button clicks to complete an entire video conversion project.

The conversion speed is unexpectedly fast. A detailed list of general conversion times is shown below. Simply, you get what you pay for. Compared to the majority of free online video converters I’ve used in the past, the HD Video Converter Factory Pro felt 10x – 30x faster. As well, for those who are uploading videos to the internet or even sending videos via email or message, small file sizes are crucial. The HD Video Converter Factory Pro has a compression function which reduces the file size. However, when pushed to the maximum compression setting I did notice a substantial and inevitable loss in picture quality. Lastly, for people with multiple conversion projects, the program allows multiple video conversions to be batched and the conversions will all be done in turn. This way the user doesn’t have to wait for the first conversion to finish before starting another.

The program includes a large array of convertible video formats. The full version of the software includes the most common formats such as MP4, AVI, MOV, H624 and over 200 others. If less tech-savvy individuals aren’t familiar with what formats they should be using in the first place, the system has options that automatically chooses the best format for the device that you are converting the file for. This feature supports all the most popular devices from the following manufacturers are more: Apple, Microsoft, Sony, and Samsung. For gamers that want to move video files to their console or portable gaming devices, the HD Video Converter Factory Pro supports compatible video formats for all Xbox consoles, Nintendo Wii, PS4, PS3, PS Vita and even the original PSP.

While the converter itself is a solid product on its own, there are other extra features included. Perhaps the most useful is the built-in video downloader. The downloader is simple and easy to use and like the converter, remarkably quick. I was able to download a 1 hour and 20-minute soundtrack video from Youtube in under 3 minutes. Keeping in mind that I’m running an average, consumer grade laptop (1.9 GHz processor and 8 GB of RAM) connected to an average internet speed connection (11 Mbps download speed), that is a pretty impressive feat. As well, WonderFox Soft also included the Ringtone Studio, a feature that allows users to create their own ringtones for both iOS and Android phones. All the user must do is simply drag the desired video or audio file, trim the selected portion they wish to use as their ringtone, and transfer the file to their smartphone.

Lastly, WonderFox Soft has been around since 2009 and has quick and impeccable customer service. You shouldn’t expect to have any problems using the HD Video Converter Factory Pro, but if on the off chance that you do, their customer service team will respond to your inquiry within 24 hours or less.

The Bad

Unfortunately, while the HD Video Converter Factory Pro is a great piece of software, the full version is not free-to-use. It currently sells for $29.95 USD for a 1-year license and $69.95 for a lifetime license. However, while viewing their website over the past week the lifetime license has frequently gone on sale for short periods of time at the price of $34.95 USD.

For professional content creators or earnest amateur enthusiasts, this is well worth the price for a high-quality converter and online video downloader that will last you a lifetime. However, consumers who just need a one-off conversion or don’t plan to use the software more than a couple times a year might be better suited to find a cheaper alternative.

As well, while testing the software I did run into a fairly common and fixable issue. After sending a support ticket to their customer service team, WonderFox Soft responded within 12 hours. Their response was both professional and clear and most importantly it solved my problem. Some computers with antivirus programs such as Windows Defender or other 3rd party programs will block the program from opening. Sometimes the program will open but will be unable to access any files on the computer. To remedy this, all you have to do is simply open your antivirus program, likely Windows Defender, and add the converter to your whitelist.

The Verdict

The HD Video Converter Factory Pro is a great piece of software for both amateur video editors and professionals alike. The program is quick to install, easy-to-use and has a variety of functions to make video conversion both easier or customized to suit the user’s needs. The high-speed conversions and batching function allows for projects to be completed in a timely manner. On top of the converter, the program includes a built-in video downloader and ringtone maker. In the end, you get what you pay for. People willing to pay for the full version of the software will receive a converter which in theory should last them a lifetime for all their conversion needs. If new versions of the software are released in the future, the company offers lifetime free upgrades. On the other hand, for casual users who won’t be using the software so often, perhaps a cheaper alternative would be suitable.
