Darksiders 3 Review

The Darksiders franchise was first published in 2010, for Xbox360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. This series was published by THQ. The first two parts were actually developed by Vigil Games. The third part, however, was developed by Gunfire Games instead. The Darksiders franchise is one of the most well-known hack and slash IPs in Gaming. The third and the newest installment in the series was released on November 27, 2018 for Microsoft Windows, PS4 and XboxOne.

Darksiders 3 Review. The amazing talented cast of Darksiders 3 developing team.
This game was directed by John Pearl (The big guy in the back), produced by Reinhard Pollice (The second guy on the right), the game was written by one of the most interesting team of writers in our generations, Man of Action. (The first four guys on the left) He has animated tv series such as Ben10 Franchise, Generator Rex, The Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Avengers Assemble in his resume. (Which is impressive, to say the LEAST) This game's incredible music has been composed by Mr. Cris Velasco (The first guy on the right) who made music for RE7, Overwatch, Battleborn, Bloodborne and Assassin's Creed Unity Dead Kings to name a few. (We've got some amazing Veterans here in this game.) The engine in which this game was created is Unreal Engine 4.

Darksiders 3 is currently available for purchase on Steam for only $41.99.

The story of this game and its' predecessors is a mixture of biblical legends and Vikings mythology which is an interesting combination. Story is the main focus in these games as it tells the story of the 4 horsemen of Apocalypse and their adventures. The characters in this story are all bible based such as the four horsemen of the apocalypse and 7 deadly sins. This game follows Fury on her journey as she tries her best to end the tyranny of the deadly 7.

Darksiders 3 Review. The unique and amazing cast of characters in Darksiders 3.

The characters are unique in personality and loyal to the source material (Bible) for example an antagonist in the game named "Gluttony" is the perfect representation of his bible counterpart as he has 5 mouths and even has another mouth in one of those mouths. You can't get any more obvious than that. The characters also stay loyal to their behaviors as you can see in the fight with Sloth, he says "I don't make choices, it's too hard" or "All I care at the end of the world is to get comfortable". The story is filled with mythological and biblical references, it's deep in a way that you feel like you're in a Nordic novel about their mythologies.

This game comes under the genre of Hack & Slash, Action Adventure. It gets inspiration from games such as DMC and Prince of Persia. The series started with a slow-paced gameplay but with each entry, it got faster. This entry is the fastest paced game in the series. The combos feel so energetic and satisfying, you can juggle your enemies beyond your wildest dreams, so the people who are interested in combo heaven games, I definitely suggest this game for you. The walks and actionless moments in the game are instead filled with beautiful scenery which we will talk about in the next part of our review but for now, let's talk about the fact that at some moments, the combat becomes a little too dull and repetitive.(The undersea battle with Gluttony, I am looking straight at you)

Darksiders 3 Review. The aforementioned dull and repetitive Gluttony undersea battle.

The bladed whips in the game are insane and it's like you can actually feel every strike against your enemies. For me personally, Darksiders 2 is the highest point in the franchise. It was perfectly balanced. In Darksiders 3 there are fewer variations to the weapons, however, the combat combos are very satisfying. (Just seeing those weak enemies rise into the air and just get slashed for so long is truly great) It is head and shoulders above their current competition. They did great with the gameplay of this game but some changes and innovations would be even better.
PS- Combos is when you land your hits in a continuation and it sometimes causes your enemies to juggle.

Graphics & environment design

The graphics are absolutely an improvement over the last installment in the series. The textures are more realistic while still keeping the original comical art style. Design of the environment, even in the dystopian city area, is reminiscent of a sort of a Nordic, comical and mythological style. The art style of the game is eye-catching enough so that when there is no combat, you would still have something to stay in awe of. It is beautifully made and it is enough for you to stop your mindless violence and just take a closer and deeper look at the magnificently made, kudos to the development team at Gunfire Games for such a beautifully made game.

Darksiders 3 Review. As you can see 4 different environments, each of them beautifully made, eye-catching and breathtaking.

The graphics aren't the most realistic in the industry or the most detailed, but it is one of the most stylish ones, it is a breath of fresh air in a time where all games are going towards real life, super realistic graphics and art style. It is incredible how it is the embodiment of "BEST" graphics don't equal best games. The focus of this game is definitely more on story and gameplay but couple that with an enticing art style equals a very VERY good and interesting game.

The audio editing in this game doesn't need any description, it is very accurate but what we are gonna focus on is actually the voice actors and soundtracks. Voice actors did a great incredible job portraying their characters in the best way possible, we should remember that most of the times, they are just told how to read a line without any image or video piece so they know what they should do because, again, most of the times the game and 3D models are made after the voice so that it can be put on the voice or record at the same time while they use mocap suits to make the basic 3D models renderings. The voice actors such as Cissy Jones with her rage-filled voice as Fury and Michael Anthony Claudio Wincott with his mysterious, deadly and terrifying voice as Death are amazing cause they help a lot in the pursuit of drowning yourself in the game while other characters voices have got a long way to perfection due to the fact that some voice actors have fallen short of expectations. (I ain't gonna name and shame anyone.) The soundtracks are perfectly helpful to get you in the game's atmosphere.

Darksiders 3 Review. The soundtracks to the Sloth and Wrath Battle are epic.
Soundtracks like "Sloth" represent the level they are being used in perfectly. The soundtrack starts with small drum beats that sound like beetles moving which is totally appropriate seeing how Sloth's minions are beetle-like creatures. Soundtracks like "Wrath" are very epic and glorious, like the ballad to a war scene which is perfect for a fight scene between Wrath and Fury, the embodiments of rage. This game drops you right in the middle of the game's world with its' amazing soundtracks. For a deeper understanding of how incredible this game's soundtrack is, take a look at the video above.

So all and all, this game is a pretty solid and amazing game for Hack And Slash or Action Adventure fans. With interesting and amazing gameplay, though lacking and repetitive at times, incredible Graphics And Environment Designs but far different than any realistic graphics and Audio Direction, Voice Acting and Soundtracks that will put you in just the right position you want to experience the game's world.

Darksiders 3 Review. An amazing game overall with a few corks.
The reason I gave this game a 7.8 and not a score like 9 or so is because of some repetitive elements in the game and some lackluster voice actings but aside from that, it is an incredible experience for Hack And Slash, Action Adventure or Combo Heaven fans. I also suggest the Prince of Persia series and of course, look forward to the upcoming DMC installment. The last detail that I should put in this article is that this game is one of the few games in the world that you can have "Farsi\Persian" language as an option.

+Amazing Story and Character Development  -Some characters seem rushed
