Pokémon YouTuber Leonhart has been opening Pokémon Trading Card packs for a long time. On May 16, 2020, he pulled the Pokémon equivalent of the Holy Grail. A first-edition, holographic Charizard. If mint, this Charizard was estimated to be valued at $55,000. Sadly, Leonhart may never know the true value of the card. The United States Postal Service lost the card in the mail.
Pulling and Losing Charizard
On May 16, Leonhart posted a video in which he opened several classic Pokémon Card packs. One of which was a 1st Edition Base Set Booster Pack with Charizard on the cover. The pack was valued between $5,000 – $7,000 before being opened.
As if by divine intervention, the video opened with a greeting from Veronica Taylor, the original voice actor for Ash Ketchum in the Pokémon anime. Taylor wished Leonhart luck in pulling a Charizard and he did it in the closing moments of the video.
The ultra-rare Pokémon Card was shipped to PSA for grading, though it never arrived. Leonhart approached the USPS about the package’s whereabouts, but it proved futile.
On June 20, the YouTuber released a video explaining the news to his subscribers. He told the Hart Squad (his fans) that he has no idea where the card is and that he received little help from the USPS. He explained that he was refunded for the shipping fees and has placed an insurance claim on the package. That said, the shipping costs were far less than the potential $55,000 the card could have netted Leonhart.
