Wreckfest Upgrade for PS5 Will Not Be Free

2014's Wreckfest will be receiving a PS5 upgrade this summer but will not be free for players who have previously bought the game. PlayStation gamers are questioning the decision as the Xbox Series X upgrade is free of charge. Wreckfest adds to the growing list of existing titles with PS5 upgrades.

THQ Nordic’s Wreckfest is coming to PS5 on June 1st but will not offer a free upgrade to players who own the game on PS4.

Both physical and digital editions will retail at $39.99/£34.99; owners of the PS4 version can upgrade to the PS5 version for $9.99/£9.99. The Xbox Series X upgrade was free for players, bringing with it similar features to the paid PlayStation version.

“The PlayStation®5 version offers the best Wreckfest experience on consoles ever and takes full advantage of the PlayStation®5’s hardware power. Not only does the new version offer enhanced visuals such as dynamic dirt on vehicles, better textures, and improved visual effects”,THQ Nordic said in a statement.

Despite the statement, no actual reason behind charging players for the update was given.

Wreckfest on PS5 will run at 4K at 60FPS. It will also take advantage of DualSense features such as haptic triggers. Also, multiplayer lobbies have been increased to 24 players, which could be carnage!

In our review of Wreckfest, we said, “the game is great and plays well, but the online multiplayer makes it difficult to recommend”.
