Worms Rumble Announced As A Real-Time 32-Player Battle Royale

Worms Rumble has been announced for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 and puts a fresh spin on the series’ classic formula. The iconic Worms aesthetic and weaponry will be translated to a real-time battle royale experience with multiplayer modes, customisation, and general silliness remaining a strong focus.

Team 17 are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their beloved whacky multiplayer series Worms by making huge changes to the standard rules and mechanics that have come to define the franchise. This experimental new title was revealed to be Worms Rumble, which will bridge the series across generations with a fresh real-time combat angle to its multiplayer gameplay.

Worms Rumble will feature 32-player online deathmatches and battle royale modes fought in classic 2D combat arenas. However, the turn-based gameplay that is heavily associated with the series has been done away with in favour of “frantic real-time combat” which sees every Worm on screen battling it out at the same time. When coupled with the recognisable Worms arsenal of bazookas, shotguns, and holy hand grenades, this is sure to make Worms Rumble a crazy time when it launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC later this year.

“Up-to-32-player, cross-platform multiplayer: Play across PlayStation generations and PC, with Deathmatch and Last Worm Standing solo and squad battle royale modes available at launch.”

In addition to the new gameplay pace and modes, Worms Rumble will also feature extensive customisation options for your personal squad of wriggly soldiers which can be levelled-up through battles. But perhaps most exciting is the promise of cross-platform multiplayer which will allow players on either the PS4, PS5, or PC to team up and try to be the last Worms standing.

You can currently sign up to the Steam beta for Worms Rumble, which will run from July 15 to July 20. The game will release on PS4, PS5, and PC later in 2020.
