After making a name for himself with 2020’s SHEEPO, and getting the game ported to modern consoles, developer Kyle Thompson has revealed details of his next project. Titled Islets, the new metroidvania game promises a “surprisingly wholesome” experience where players will face monsters and meet quirky characters, scattered across hand-painted islands. The game is set to release in 2022, with help from publisher Armor Games Studios.
Islets is available to wishlist on Steam now.
I'm so excited to announce my new game, Islets, published by @ArmorGameStudio !
Islets is a surprisingly wholesome metroidvania, where you soar through the skies in a rickety aircraft, explore floating islands, and connect them together.

The game’s summary is as follows, taken from its Steam page:
Iko is an aspiring yet hopeful warrior exploring the land and sky to reunite a series of floating islands. With his rickety airship, he must travel from island to island in order to reignite each one’s magnetic core while fighting off the many adversaries standing in his way.
Heavily inspired by Studio Ghibli films, “both visually and thematically,” it produces a similar yet refreshing vibe to his prior work. And if the trailer is anything to go off of, there’s much for the player to explore come 2022.
Islets will be showcased this weekend at the INDIE Live Expo 2021, according to Gamespress.
Kyle Thompson is a solo developer based out of Oregon, with the soundtrack to SHEEPO composed by his brother, Eric. Islets will mark his second commercial game.
Armor Games Studios is a full-service publisher of indie titles. Recent titles they’ve assisted with include The Last Stand: Aftermath, LumbearJack, and Snacko.
